During: Action – Working on it

Part 1: Lesson on Mary
The Mother of God
 Mary is the mother of Jesus who is God “in the flesh” (2 John 7, John 1:14).
 Mary’s unique position as “Mother of God” is the result of three beliefs:
1. Virgin’s Birth: Jesus was born a virgin (Mary), and the child Mary conceived in her womb was not
of human origin, but of the Holy Spirit.
2. Immaculate Conception: From the instant of Mary’s existence as a human person God preserved
Mary from original sin in preparation for her calling to be the mother of Jesus.
3. Assumption: Mary went straight to heaven at the end of her life without her body undergoing
decay, because she was free from sin.
The Mother of the Church
 Jesus gave ALL disciples his mother when he appointed Mary the mother of the Apostle John on the
cross (John 19:27).
 Mary embraces each and every one in and through the Church.
Part 2: Skits
 In groups, students create skits about Mary based on Scripture (Luke 1:26-38, Matthew 1:18-24, Luke
1:39-45, Luke 2:1-20, Luke 2:41-51, John 2: 1-12, and John 19: 25-27).
 Students summarize characteristics of Mary and explain how they can follow her example in their
own lives.
