POI Migration: Frequently Asked Question

1.What is a POI in telecom network?

Ans: A POI Stands for Point of interface. In telecommunication a point of interface is used to
show the physical interface between two different carriers such as a local exchange carrier and a
wireless carrier. we can also say POI is physical interface between media gateways of the two
telecom companies.

2. What are the type of POIs in BSNL network?

Ans: There are three types of POIs working in MAX-NG network.
1. BSO: Basic Service Operator
2. NLDO: National Long Distance Operator
3. ILDO: International Long Distance Operator

3.Where is PCM from POI is terminated in MAX-NG network?

Ans: PCM is terminated on NGTJ Card where SG/MG application must be installed.

4. How many POI E1 can be terminated on NGTJ card?

Ans: 32

5.What is the function of SGP server installed in core?

Ans: The SGP provides a functional interworking of transport functions between the SS7
network and the IP network by also supporting the M3UA adaptation layer. It allows the transfer
of MTP3-user signaling messages to and from an IP-based Application Server Process where the
peer MTP3-User protocol layer exists.
SGP server is the centralized signaling node where all the SS7/SIGTRAN signaling data is
configured and all the SG Line cards are parented to the SGP server.

6.What is the function of C4 softswitch in POI interworking?

Ans: In order to migrate a ISUP POI in MAX-NG Network, Signaling, Voice and Routing data
needs to be created in C4. C4 also controls all the parented Media Gateway through MEGACO
protocol.

7. How to use/access SG server CLI?

Ans: Login SGP server using FVIP and follow below steps:
Go to:
cd ft
./sgfe 10.187.4.35 9900
Login: admin
Password: *******
8. How to check the signaling link status of POI through SG CLI?
