Depression

Depression is a common, debilitating, and potentially lethal disorder; over 300 million

people in the world are estimated to live with depression. Depression can affect us at any time.

Depression can be even a greater risk depending on where you are in life. Untreated depression

is a leading cause of teen suicide. Teens with depression are 12 times more likely to attempt

suicide than teens not experiencing depression. Teens experiencing depression can be

intermittently moody or rebellious but may show signs of sadness and persistent anxiety. The

problem is that teens with untreated depression are the most vulnerable to commit suicide and

put themselves in the most dangerous situations. Why is it a problem? Adolescents with

untreated depression can be the leading point for teens to commit suicide. It is important for this

problem to be addressed because it can cause sadness and desperation. Depression not only

affects the teens experiencing but also their family and the people around them. It can cause

more than just sadness and loneliness. Depression in teens could cause them to not be interested

or motivated to do and be able to keep up with the everyday things.

One specific issue that’s caused by depression is the death or loss of loved ones. It is a issue

because through sadness or grief after the loss of a loved one, naturally the risk of depression

may increase. Some solutions to resolve this problem are to get social support. It’s better when

you have connections and don’t feel alone. In case that you’re feeling alone or stuck, do not

hesitate to talk to someone that you trust such as a family member or a friend. Another solution

that I can identify on my own is exercise. I think exercise is something that will maintain your

mind in other places in a way that you will not be able to think about anything that can make you

depressed. Another specific problem associated with depression is that approximately 3 in 4

suicidal individuals show warning signs to a family member or friend. Feeling socially connected

to others is one of the protective factor that is directly associated with positive emotional health.

Some effective prevention and intervention solutions are programs that should teach students

safe and positive ways to cope with everyday stressors, such as how to recognize depression and

suicidal behaviors in oneself and peers.

Others specific issue that’s caused by untreated depression is Genetic factors. Having some

relatives with depression increased the risk for depression. If you don’t know about it eventually

will be a untreated depression. Psychotherapy will be a good option for a solution since is

something that’s relationated with family and relatives. Psychotherapy or talking therapies that

include cognitive-behavioral therapy. Support will be a good option. Discussing practical

solutions and contributing stresses, to educating family members. To identify any kind of

depression behavior the adolescent must have other clinical characteristics, including significant

changes in patterns of appetite, weight, sleep, activity concentration, energy level, self-esteem,

and motivation. Solutions and treatments may combine short-term psychotherapy, medication,

and targeted interventions involving the home or school environment.

Another specific issue that’s caused by depression is poor performance in

energy. Teen suicidal warning signs encompass three specific categories:Behavioral warnings

signs, Verbal warnings signs and Stressful life events. A good relationship with pears are central

to teens self-esteem and provide an important social outlet. This shows how important

relationships are for adolescents how they are feeling is how they performance in school, how

they behave. Some solutions are Talk to trusted adults for help and join organization that offers

programs for young people. Participate on school activities, sports and hobbies since staying

busy helps teens focus on positive activities rather than negative feelings or behaviors.

Depression is a common, debilitating, and potentially lethal disorder. It is a problem

because it affects how the teens in this case and how people with it in general behave in their

everyday lives. It gets to a point where it leads towards suicide. Some solutions do not work for

everyone. Sometimes it depends how that person is behaving and working his best for the best

results. In a summary I think some of my solutions are pretty easy to do and accomplish. In some

case I think all solutions could work. Most of the time in the depends in the person state of mind

and case in general. Some people could find the programs a bit harder than others as well some

teens could find the therapies harder since is all talk, understandings and comfort.
