NONLIN Version 8 – Instructions for Installation

1. How to obtain a copy of NONLIN Version 8

2. System Requirements

- NONLIN version 8 is compatible with Windows platform only.

- NONLIN works with any version of Windows up to Windows 8 (32 bit or 64 bit).
- Those working with UNIX system needs to install Windows first in their computer
to work with NONLIN.

3. How to install NONLIN

a. Download and copy the setup folder (which is in the form a ‘zip’ file ) to any
location in your computer

b. Unzip the contents in the ‘zip’ file. The setup folder contains the following main
files.
i. NONLIN setup file (which is a .exe file)
ii. .DLL setup folder
iii. Documentation file (documentation on how to use the program)
iv. ReadMe documentation (documentation to demonstrate the installation)

c. Double click on the NONLIN setup file and follow the instructions on screen.

i. The default location of the installation is in “C:\Program Files\Advanced

Structural Concepts\Nonlin”. It is advised not to change the default location
of program installation.

ii. Click ‘next’ in the following screens until the installation is complete.

iii. Once the installation is complete the following folders/icons will be added
to your computer.
- C:\Program Files\Advanced Structural Concepts\Nonlin
- ‘Nonlin32’ icon in “All Programs”

4. How to activate the DLL file

Once the installation of NONLIN is complete, go to “All Programs” and open

‘Nonlin32’. If the program doesn’t work correctly (particularly if the program shows any
missing .dll errors while using ground acceleration records), the version of Windows you
are using is missing some kind of ‘.dll’ files and needs to register these missing files. This
can be done by following the steps shown below.

a. Activate the .DLL file in a 32-bit version of Windows

i. Extract the contents of the ‘DLL’ folder into your computer. The folder
contains the files as seen in the following figure.

ii. Copy the “MSSTDFMT.DLL” file to “C:\Windows\System32

iii. Now go to “Start Menu” – “All Programs” - “Accessories”

iv. Right click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator”

v. Type the following command on command prompt window and press Enter
regsvr32 MSSTDFMT.DLL

vi. If the .DLL is registered correctly in your computer then, the following
screen appears.

vii. Press ‘OK’ and now the program is ready to run. Reboot the system to
properly finish all the updates.

b. Activate the .DLL file in a 64-bit version of Windows

i. Extract the contents of the .DLL set up folder into your computer. The
folder contains the files as seen in the following figure.

ii. Copy the ‘MSSTDFMT.DLL’ file to “C:\Windows\SysWOW64

iii. Now go to “Start Menu” – “All Programs” - “Accessories”

iv. Right click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator” and
the following window appears.

v. Type the following command on command prompt window and press Enter

cd \windows\syswow64

vi. Type the following command on command prompt window and press Enter

regsvr32 MSSTDFMT.DLL

vii. If the .DLL is registered correctly in your computer then, the following
screen appears.

viii. Press ‘OK’ and now the program is ready to run. Reboot the system to
properly finish all the updates.

5. Other issues

a. If the .DLL doesn’t register correctly, go to http://www.dll-files.com and check for

any updates in the registration process of .DLL file.

b. If the program doesn’t run even after registering the .DLL successfully, run the
program as an administrator. (Right click on the program icon in “All Programs”
and select “Run as administrator”.

c. If the problem still persists, contact NEEShub administrator.
