TransCanada Turbines
TransCanada Turbines Ltd. (TCT) is an independent overhaul and repair maintenance service provider
with over ten (10) years experience in the industry. TCT is licensed by General Electric and Rolls-Royce
on all marks of the following aero-derivative industrial gas turbines: GE LM2500, LM2500+, and LM6000;
and Rolls-Royce Avon, RB211 and RB211 DLE. TCT operates a total of six (6) locations, including two
(2) overhaul depots, four (4) field service satellite offices, and one (1) solely owned and operated test cell.
All office and shop space is used solely by TransCanada Turbines.
TransCanada Turbines offers technical support and service 24 hours, 365 days a year to almost anywhere in
the world. The head office and Rolls-Royce depot is located in Calgary, Alberta, and the GE depot is
located in Airdrie, Alberta. Field service satellite offices are located in Bakersfield, California; Syracuse,
New York; Houston, Texas; and Cumbernauld, Scotland.
Equipment
The Calgary facility is equipped with complete tooling, balance equipment, overhead cranes, and strip and
build stands required to perform scopes of work from minor inspection through to complete overhaul and
refurbishment.
Equipment
The Airdrie facility is equipped with complete tooling, balance equipment, overhead cranes, and strip and
build stands required to perform scopes of work from minor inspections or service bulletin implementation
through to complete overhauls and refurbishment.
Cumbernauld Office (U.K)
TransCanada Turbines (U.K.) Ltd. is located in
Cumbernauld, Scotland. The UK satellite office has
approximately 14 000 sq/ft of office and shop space,
and is complete with a 16 tonne overhead crane, spare
parts inventory, and LM2500 and LM6000 Level II
tooling. The Cumbernauld office also provides support
for servicing the Rolls-Royce Avon and RB211 engine
lines. Staff located at the Cumbernauld office includes
part sales representatives, regional sales managers for
Europe, the Middle East and Africa, administrative
support staff, and field service technicians.
Testing Capabilities
TransCanada Turbines owns and operates a Rolls-Royce Category 1 approved test cell, located at the
Calgary facility. Opened in June of 1998, this 930 m² (10,000 ft²) test cell is capable of testing all marks of
the Avon, RB211 and RB211 DLE, as well as the General Electric LM1500 and LM2500. TransCanada
Turbines performs all tests with natural gas, and is the first Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Centre to
achieve approval from Rolls-Royce for Verification, Configuration, Calibration, Competency, Testing and
Performance Analysis program compliancy to Rolls-Royce OIA52 Process.
In addition to performing all tests to Rolls-Royce test specifications and requirements, TCT tests engine
data against trend expectations to ensure that the data collected is within normal and expected limits.
During engine trending, data is analyzed to ensure that no unusual characteristics are prevalent with the
operation of the engine. Vibration analysis conducted on all engines includes acceleration and deceleration
vibration survey, and the use of a vibration spectrum analyzer to check the engines’ vibration
characteristics against standards and trend expectations.
In 2004 TCT opened its cold end drive test facility for General Electric LM6000 PA and PC industrial
aero-derivative gas turbines in Strathmore, Alberta 56 kilometres east of Calgary. The test facility enables
TCT to test the LM6000 against a live power grid in a similar situation to a customer’s actual operating
conditions.
Joint Venture
TransCanada Turbines is an equally owned, joint venture partnership between TransCanada Corporation, of
Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and the Wood Group, of Aberdeen, Scotland.

General Electric LM2500 and LM6000
TransCanada Turbines (TCT) has been fully licensed on the GE LM2500, LM2500+ and LM6000
aeroderivative industrial gas turbines since the doors opened for business in 1998. TCT is licensed on all
variants, including DLE.
TransCanada Turbines tests the LM6000 engine at a customized power plant located near the overhaul
facility in Strathmore, Alberta. The LM6000 is tested in a package at an operating power plant. TCT
modified the existing package to enable a fast turn-around-time when testing. By using a modified
package, the engines are tested in a situation almost identical to a customer’s actual operating conditions.

Health, Safety & Environment
Maintenance of strong Health, Safety and Environment incident prevention and employee education
programs are a top priority at TransCanada Turbines (TCT). All HS&E policies are sponsored by upper
management, and all employees are encouraged to read, understand and apply the HS&E Policies to
continue to work safe. Through remaining dedicated to HS&E awareness across the company, TCT has
continued to uphold an excellent HS&E record. TransCanada Turbines has an active Health, Safety &
Environment Manual and an ‘Emergency Response Handbook’, both of which are readily available to all
employees.
TCT believes that Health & Safety are an integral part of every process, and consistently strives to achieve
zero accidents in all aspects of the business. TCT’s HSE manual challenges and directs Management to
create a safe work environment for all, and makes them directly accountable for work place injuries. In
order to successfully realize HSE goals, it is imperative that all employees are fully aware of their vital
roles and responsibilities within the active Safety Management System. The HSE manual has been
designed to clearly set out these requirements and responsibilities.
TransCanada Turbines is extremely proud of its Health & Safety performance over recent years. It is firmly
believed that robust leadership, clear goals and targeted resources have allowed a company wide safety
culture to flourish. The system functions with a continuous learning and improvement cycle as the basis,
and openly encourages all suggestions, recommendations and experiences. Reporting of incidents or the
refusal of unsafe work practices are not penalized; and ‘near miss’ reporting is actively encouraged and
treated as a valuable learning experience for prevention of future incidents and improvement of current
policies. Core values, strategies, rules, regulations and requirement are listed within the HSE manual,
along with process requirements that ensure the continuous improvement cycle operates.
Supplemental Information
TransCanada Turbines commitment to Health, Safety & Environment excellence is further demonstrated by
