Q1) Design the beam for following data, [16]

Q2) A three span continuous beam ABCD is simply supported at A and D and
continuous over support Cand B. The beam carries a load of 230mm thick
3m high brick wall and superimposed load of 15KN/m. Design the beam
using IS code coefficient. Span AB=BC=CD=6m. Unit weight of brick wall
20KN/m3. Use M20 and Fe 415. Sketch the reinforcement details. [16]

Q3) Design a open circular RCC water tank resting on ground. The capacity of
tank is 550000 lit. of water. The joint between wall and base of tank is rigid.
Depth of water tank is 4.5m. Use M20 and Fe 415. Adopt IS code method of

carries two live loads of 40KN each in addition to its own weight. The two
point loads of 40KN at distance of 5m from both ends and-total span of
beam 15m. Compute the extreme fiber stresses at mid span. [16]

Q7) A post tensioned beam 150mm×300mm is having parabolic cable consisting


of 12 wires of 5mm diameter. The cable having eccentricity of 50mm at mid
span and eccentricity zero at ends. The initial stress is 1000N/mm2. Find the
total percentage of loss of pre-stress. The span is 10m. take μ=0.35, k=0.0015,
relaxation of steel=3%, Ec=3.5×104, Es=2.1×105, creep coefficient=2.5,
shrinkage strain=2×10–4. [18]

Q8) A post tensioned pre-stressed beam of rectangular section 250mm wide is to


be designed for an imposed load of 15KN/m uniformly distributed on span of
15m. Stress in the concrete must not exceed 17N/mm2 in compression and
1.4N/mm2 in tension. The loss of Pre-stress may be assumed 15%. Calculate.
a) The minimum possible depth of beam
b) For section producing minimum pre-stressing force and corresponding

SECTION-I

Q1) Design an interior panel of flat slab 5 m × 6 m size, with drop and without
column head, for superimposed load of 6 kN/m2. Slab is resting on a column
of size 450 mm × 450 mm. Use M 20 grade concrete and Fe 415 steel.
Calculate the reinforcement along any one side. [25]

Q2) a) A beam 3.7 m deep and 280 mm wide continuous over three clear span
of 5.4 m each with support of thickness 550 mm each carries an uniformly
distributed service load of 170 kN/m2 excluding self weight. Design beam
using M 20 grade concrete and Fe 415 steel. [13]

b) Design a deep beam 280 mm wide and 4.5 m deep simply supported
over a clear span of 5.5 m. The beam carries uniformly distributed service
load of 150 kN/m, excluding self weight. Beam supported on wall of 450
mm thick on each end. Use M 20 grade concrete and Fe 415 steel. [12]

Q3) Design a RCC chimney of height 70 m by using M 25 grade concrete and Fe

Q5) A cantilever type retaining wall has 5 m tall stem. It retains earth level with its
top. The density of earth is 18kN/m3 and angle of repose 30o. The embankment
is horizontal at its top. The SBC of soil may be taken as 200 kN/m2 and the
coefficient of friction between soil and concrete is 0.67. Design the retaining
wall. Take all necessary checks. Adopt M20 grade concrete and Fe415 grade

SECTION-I

Q1) Design a reinforced concrete combined rectangular footing for two columns
A and B located 4.00m apart. The overall sizes of the column A is 360 mm ×
360 mm and column B is 420 mm × 420 mm and the loads on them are 1000
kN and 1400 kN respectively. The boundary line of the property is 400 mm
from the outer face of column A. The bearing capacity of soil obtained from
plate load test is 200 kN/m2. Use M 20 concrete and Fe 415 steel. [25]

Q2) A column 450 mm × 450 mm in section stands on a pile cap supported on


three piles of 400 mm diameter each. The column is situated at the centroid of
the pile group. The total load transferred to the column is 600kN.The piles are
1.40m centre to centre. Design the pile cap. Use M20 and Fe 415 steel. [25]

Q3) Design a raft foundation supporting 12 columns of a building as fig. 1


shows the position of the columns. The load on each column is 400 kN.
Use M 20 grade concrete and Fe 415 steel. The safe bearing capacity of
soil is 120 kN/m2. [25]

coefficient of friction between soil and concrete is 0.55. Use grade of concrete
M20 and grade of steel Fe 415. Draw neat sketch showing reinforcement details

respectively. The beam is to be prestressed by effective prestressing force of
335kN at a suitable eccentricity such that the resultant stress at the soffit of

Q7) A post tensioned prestress concrete beam of 24m span is subjected to a


transfer prestress force of 1980 kN at 28 days strength. The profile of the
cable is parabolic with maximum eccentricity of 180mm at midspan. Determine
the loss of prestress. The beam has a cross section of 400×800mm, and is
prestressed with 9 cables, each cable consisting 12 wires of 5mm φ . Take
Es=210 kN/mm2 and Ec=35 kN/mm2. One cable is tensioned at a time. [16]

Q8) A post tensioned prestressed beam of rectangular section 300mm wide is to


be designed for an imposed load of 15 kN/m, uniformly distributed on span
of 12m. The stress in the concrete must not be exceed 11N/mm2 in compression
and 1.1N/mm2 in tension at any time and the loss of prestress may be assumed
to be 18.2%. Calculate. [17]
