My sophomore year has taught me a lot about myself school and what the future of

mankind might actually be like in the future. In AGS we go into depth about topics no

one would think of, does it cause stress and confusion of course but thats high

school. What i think made me stress out more this year was all the projects and

showcases that at the moment i didn't understand why i had to do it when no other

academy had too. But now i understand why we did it not only did it help me

understand different points of an issue, but also it also made me think how could i help

solve those problems we were given to solve. The most eye opening lesson for me was

our trash project, and trash talk because i learned how plastic never actually

decomposes, no matter how you try to get rid of it, even if plastic were to burn ,it it will

just become smaller and smaller but it will never truly just be gone.It also shocked me

how plastic is in our clothes and how our clothes can actually be part of the pollution

problem. This year in particular a lesson i will consider crucial to my learning was

actually a year long lesson which was Root Words and the Quizes because as i am an

ELL / ESL student these helped me comprehend many words, which helped me learn

more and learn words i did not even know what they met what's so ever. It also helped

me expand my vocabulary to certain levels i never saw myself reaching, but then again i

never saw myself making a plastic cup chandelier. Which brings me to say that the

trash project will truly be a project i will never forget not only did it educate me on waste,

it made me realize how much is wasted and what impact it truly has on this planet. In my

third period world history class we watched a short film about the bombing in japan and
that left me truly shook because i never knew how powerful an atomic bomb could be,

but it also left me to think the way mankind is and how yet we are taught for most of our

lives that violence is never the answer but yet countries tend to resolve their conflicts

with wars causing even more violence within the nation. That in a sense affected me by

realizing that conflict will always exist and how the country you are from or live in can

determine so so much how your life will play out . A culture that holds much of my

attention will be what i learned in my teach for a day project ,As i studied more in depth

the culture and customs of afghanistan it made me appreciate my freedom i have here

in the united states, because even though i am not treated the same i have the right to

speak up,i have rights in general.Even though we will always have close minded men

and women that have certain standards for how a woman should look like out in society

and or behave. But i will refuse to fall under a standard as i will always be me, and never

a puppet to societ. An with this project i learned that what you have between your legs

should not determine your standard or stop you from following your dreams and it

should not change the way you are treated.I believe that times are changing and with

that so should people's view point. What World Studies means to me is literally in the

name you study the world and what better way to do that then to get out into the world

and actually live what you are studying, and learn from it.There is a big difference

between reading a textbook over a lesson then going out of the classroom walls

because that gives a way different learning experience. It makes me appreciate and

actually grasp what i'm learning because honestly i am not a fan of reading so being

able to go out and learn more interactively helps greatly and it helps me become a
better scholar .As an American i learned that times will continue to change.Yes i might

not be the same as society or fall under their standards, but Im ok with that.I learned that

america was founded by people from whom all had different ancestors and descended

from different parts of the world so american does not mean blond and blue eyes.

American for me means different. Not only were we different when america started, but

we are different now, in so many aspects. Compared to the world we are different in

culture, beliefs and in freedom as well.My sophomore year in AGS has shaped me in

many ways, it has made me think more broad and it has opened my aspects on certain

topics and much more i cant even put into words as my global intelligence is still

growing. From this sophomore year i wanna take what i learned and implement it to my

junior year, i want to continue being molded and made a better global citizen.
