ANALYSIS OF VIDEO CRITIQUE

TITLE OF THE MOVIES/SERIES: CHICAGO JUSTICE

In Peter Stone’s argument where he said “Dylan wasn’t invited, how dare she exclude
you from a perfect world? How dare she embarrassed you by announcing to the world on
Facebook that you weren’t part of it? See? Dylan could let her get away with that, so he set
fire to the world that didn’t want him and he watched it burnt, now I wonder are those tears for
39 dead or they are for own sad and lonely life?” (Description of critical incident 1: To
convince). In his argument, Peter Stone used a different tone of voice in order to convince
that Dylan was guilty in this particular case (Analysis of critical incident). It is undenial that
one of the crucial things we constantly used in our communication daily life are to convince
people by using our tone of voice. According to Scott (n.d.), 40% of the way a person’s
message is communicated through trough tone of voice with 50% of body language and only
10% speech (Theory). Peter’s argument had triggered Dylan’s anger that made him to act
aggressively (Cause and effect). Therefore, it is essential for us to use the right and accurate
tone of voice in conveying our message and convincing others (Recommendation).

The prosecutor, Peter Stone was able to maintain his eye contact when he was
convincing others where he stopped on his argument and looked at Dylan’s pity eyes
(Description of critical incident 2: Professionalism). He then continues his argument and
said, “I wonder are those tears for 39 dead or they are for your own sad and lonely life?”
(Analysis of critical incident). Based on the situation, it is quite important for Peter to
maintain his eye contact in convincing others on his statement because according to term from
the west in the mid-1960’s, eye contact is a form of nonverbal communication and is thought
to have a large influence on social behaviour. (Theory). Apart from what Peter had convey,
the judge and the court held that Dylan was guilty and was charged under first degree murder
(Cause and effect). However, non-verbal skills play a major important role especially in the
workplace culture regardless on where it took place such courtroom, office and others
(Recommendation).

The prosecutor, Peter Stone were wearing a suit and taking care of his appearance as
a prosecutor. (Description of critical incident 3: Power of Dressing). An individual’s
physical appearance and attire can create a definite impact. This is because, people
constantly get judge from what they get to see from the physical appearance and respond in
accordance with it. (Analysis of critical incident). Based on the situation, as a prosecutor it
is important for Peter to maintain on how his attire look like. He dresses appropriately for the
role. The concept of power dressing was brought to popularity by John T. Molloy’s manuals

Dress for success (1975) and Women: dress for success (1980), which suggest a gender
specific professional dress code. (Theory). By wearing a suit and a proper attire it could
influence others since Peter is a prosecutor and he need to wear a proper attire in court since
he is an influencer. (Cause and effect). Appearance play a big roles especially to those who
need to take care of his professional reputation so they need to wear something proper
regarding to the situation. (Recommendation).

Peter Stone was able to maintain his professionalism as a prosecutor even though
Dylan trying to make noise by knocking the table during the argument. (Description of critical
incident 4: Professionalism). He manages to continue his argument and said, “See, in
Dylan’s head, Tamra had a perfect life. And Dylan wasn’t invited” (Analysis of critical
incident). Based on the situation, Peter can control the situation and his professionalism as a
prosecutor to represent his argument even though Dylan try to express his anger by knocking
the table (Theory). Dylan can’t even control his emotion after that and the judges give the
order to restrain him and remove him from the courtroom. (Cause and effect).
Professionalism is such an important thing as a prosecutor especially in the courtroom and
they need to control his emotion no matter what happened during the argument
(Recommendation).

At the first scene, all the jury, lawyers and defendant were focus when Peter Stone
currently speaking about the statement with showing a photo slide at television. (Description
of critical incident 5: Listening Skill). This is because, in the courtroom, everyone has pay
attention on Peter Stone when he speak the statement about Dylan. The black woman jury
that wearing a pink cardigan make a body language with slowly nodded her head as sign for
understanding about Peter statement. (Analysis of critical incident). Based on the situation,
this is show that they listen carefully to the words and try to picture about what Peter Stone is
saying. (Theory). When Peter Stone said “…can express anger, love, hate to anyone,
anywhere without raise a price…”, Dylan automatically express his feeling through tears.
(Cause and Effect). Listening skill is such an important thing because we don not know what
those thoughts and feelings are and the only way we will find out is by listening.
(Recommendation).

Peter Stone straightforward show the slide on television and said “39 children dead.
Mr. Fox is correct but he didn’t tell you…why Dylan did not set the fire and kill this 39 innocent.”
(Description of critical incident 6: Verbal Communication Skill). Peter Stone have been
prepared to give speech using slides and express it when he speak. (Analysis of critical

equally important. Verbal communication therefore requires both a speaker (or writer) to
transmit the message, and a listener (or reader) to make sense of the message. (Theory).
Because of Peter communication skill, everyone on a courtroom pay attention to Peter when
he speak. (Cause and Effect). Verbal communication skill is important to grab first impression
from receiver to get to know more about the sender. (Recommendation).
