U2000 FTTH Pre-Deployment (Voice and Data Service)

Keywords
U2000, pre-deployment, Data Service, Voice Service, ONT, FTTH

Background
A large number of xPON O NTs need to be deployed on the FTTH/FTTD network. O NTs can be imported
into the U2000 in batches by means of a network planning sheet. The bulk operation simplifies and
speeds up the O NT deployment so that the costs of building networks are reduced. The information
should be consistent with the network environment.

Requirement
Use the U2000 to configure FTTH Voice and Data Service configuration in batches, using the pre-
deployment excel data sheet tool

Configuration Implementation Procedure

Process to Satisfy the Requirement as follows.

Step 1. Create Global Profile Configurations in th e U2000

The global profiles created in step 1 will be used while completing the Network Planning sheet in step 2 .
Four different profiles need to be created: DBA profile, GPON Line Profile, GPON Service Profile and
Value-Added Service Profile.

If the four global profiles already exists, go to step 2.

Select Configuration -> Access Profile Management

Step 2. Fill in the netwo rk planning sheet a cco rding to the data plan

The Network Planning Sheet contains two main tabs, Data Plan and Default Value Policy.

The Data Plan worksheet contains parameters particular to an ONT to be pre-deployed. These parameters
can be classified into two parts: ONU Management Information and E2E Service Channel Data.

Parameter settings in ONU Management Information of an ONU must be unique and cannot
conflict with other O NUs. The parameters include ONU ID, ONU Description (ONU name displayed on the
U2000), and Authentication Information. If the MAC address or SN of the O NU is unknown, the
authentication information can be blank.

An E2 E service channel is used by the U2000 to manage the O NT. You can deploy services such as
the broadband and IPTV services after the E2E service channel is set up and the ONT goes online and
becomes stable.

•The Default Value Policy worksheet defines PON li ne Channel Parameters, Service Channel, and IGMP
Service. These parameters are effective in the entire network.

Note, a Network Planning Sheet and a Resource Deployment Sheet successfully completed for Data and
VoIP services has been attached to this guide, for future referenc e.

Open the Network Planning Sheet, and Click Enable Content. Complete the file according to network

Click Data Plan tab, and include information such as OLT IP address, PON port, O NU ID, O NU Name,
Authentication information (normally serial number) and ONU Type

For Data Services, complete Broadband section, GEM port, CVLAN and SVLAN

For Voice Services, complete GEM port CVLAN, SVLAN, Protocol Type, Voice Addr ess Mode and Telephone
number

Click Default Value Policy tab, PON Line Channel parameters include information such as ONU type,
authentication mode (consistent with the information in data plan). Also Line Profile, Service profile and
Value-Added profile (consistent with the U2000 global profiles – Step 1)

After filling in the network planning sheet, click Verify Data in the Data Plan worksheet to verify the
contents in the worksheet.

If the file has no problems, verification will be successful

If an error exists in the network planning sheet, the cause of the error is provided in the blank area at the
end of the line

For example:

After verification is successful, click the Generate the Resource Deployment to create the Resource
deployment Sheet

Edit the Resource deployment Sheet VAS tab to add more details regarding the Voice Service
configuration, such as Voice WAN IP address, and VoIP authentication parameters

Double check that all the parameters are ok. Consider the following tips:

 If more than one phone number needs to be configur ed, separate the details using a coma “,”
 Make sure the new Resource Deployment Data Sheet is save as Microsoft Excel 97 -2003
Worksheet format, other formats are not supported
 Only one service port is needed if the DATA and Voice Services are configured using the same
VLAN and GEM port details

Step 3. Import the network planning sheet to th e U2000

Testing Data Service

Check the service from the PC/Laptop connected to the HG8247H

For example:

Laptop (192.168.100.3)  HG8247H (11.1.1.10)  Splitter  MA5608T (11.1.1.3)  U2000 (11.1.1.2)

Note, Binding Options should be enabled and deselected under this testing scenario, as the default
gateway (11.1.1.254) is not implemented in the testing network. From the print screen, only LAN 1 and
SSID1 will PIN successfully (LAN Layer 3 configurations ). Other Ports have Binding Options disabled
because they are configured by default as Layer 2, and therefore not able to PING successfully.

For details about this configuration, refer to step 1 section 1.D, General ONT VAS Profile -> LAN port work
mode configuration.

In addition, note that the ping is to the U2000 to demonstrate the data service is configured successfully,
as there is no BRAS/external Data service network connected in this testing environment.

Testing Voice Service

Check that the VoIP numbers are up (led indicators in the modem), and that the phones are able to make
and receive calls successfully.

Other optional items to check for VoIP service are:

From the U2000, select the GPON O NU, PO T User to check the VoIP port s tatus

From the PC/Laptop connected to the HG8247H, the VoIP port status can be obtain from the modem Web
interface

Summary
After the service is configured and tested successfully, customer implemented the pre-
deployment tool to configure voice and data services. This tool is very useful as it simplifies the
network manual configurations, avoid unnecessary configuration mistakes, and reduces
customer OPEX.

Lessons Learnt
It is important to clarify with customer the network requirements, and network details. These
requirements include Network Diagram, IP Addresses, applicable VLANs, Voice Service Details
(users and passwords), and Data Service Details. A good solution design will allow to prepare for
the implementation better, and ensure a smooth configuration and testing process.
