1.3. Customer Upgrade Guidance

Installation
 If the UPS R320 media is copied onto a network share, the UPS R320 installer will
fail to run from a UNC path, but will run from a mapped network drive.

 HMIWeb graphics builder is not installed by default (i.e. not included in the
“Typical” installation. To install HMIWeb Graphics Builder, use the “Custom”
installation option.

 Command-line installation does not support installing UPS on a network or remote

location. Also, components deployed from the command line cannot be subsequently
managed using the interactive installer (in Control Panel Programs and Features)

 The UPS installer cannot install NET 3.5 SP1 on Windows 8 or Windows Server
2012. This must be done manually by adding this feature to Windows. You may need
the Operating System installation media to do this. Refer to the Microsoft website for
more information.

Excel Companion
 The installation of legacy Excel Companion versions – from PHD Desktop or older
versions of UPS) is not recommended. The BF240 or BF241 Excel companion
provides support for LIMs and Event data and should be used instead to complement
the UPS Excel Companion.

1.3 Customer Upgrade Guidance

ATTENTION

If you have installed a pre-release copy of UPS R320, you should manually
un-install it (Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs) before installing the
release version.

2.3. Internet Explorer Compatibility

 Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2003 are not supported
Users need to ensure the minimum hardware requirements are provided as per the
Operating System Recommendations.
Refer to Section 0, Localization, Language, and Locale Support for more information
on support for non-US English Microsoft Office versions.

Virtual Environments
UPS has not been tested in a Citrix environment, although there are no known
compatibility issues.
UPS can be used in VMWare server or Workstation virtual environments.

2.3 Internet Explorer Compatibility

UPS R320 has been qualified with IE9, 10, and 11.
If HMIWeb displays need to be called up directly in IE9 or later they must be modified to
ensure that the displays work correctly in these browser versions. These modifications are
required due to changes in recent versions of Internet Explorer. A migration tool is
provided on the UPS installation media to make the necessary simple modifications to
HMIWeb display files.
Note: this procedure is not necessary for displays that will only be called up directly in
UPS (using Graphics/Web Browser dashboard element), rather than opening them in
Internet Explorer.
The bulk migration tool does the following:
1. Adds a META tag to the top of the page to ensure that it runs in the correct
document mode when opened directly in Internet Explorer
2. Replaces the opacity property of page elements. They will then display with
100% opacity.
To use the bulk migration tool:
From the UPS DVD, run:
\Utilities\HMIWeb Graphic IE Compatibility
Tool\BulkDisplayIECompatibilityUpdateTool.exe

Specify the path where the display and shape files to update are located (use the browse
button to find the location if required)
Click start to migrate displays in the nominated folder and subfolders.

2.4 Microsoft Office Compatibility

Data can be exported from UPS to Excel with the R320 Excel Companion.
The supported Microsoft Office versions for this component include the North American
English 32 bit editions of the following:

8  Uniformance Process Studio Release 320 Software Change Notice

 Office 2013 with SP1
 Office 2010 with SP2
 Office 2007 with SP3
Note: 64 bit Office versions are not supported in UPS R320
Note: Office 2013 is supported with limitations. There are known issues with respect to
office 2013. Please refer to Section 5 Known Issues for details.
Refer to Section 0, Localization, Language, and Locale Support for more information
on support for non-US English Microsoft Office versions.

2.5 Migrating to UPS320

UPS R220 to R320
Upgrading from UPS 220 to 320 may take considerable time.
In some migrations from UPS 220, the Excel Companion may not be upgraded
automatically. In this case an error message (uniformance97.xla could not be found) will
appear when Excel it is run for the first time. To resolve this, please re install Excel
Companion R320. This will uninstall the legacy version and install Excel Companion
R320.

2.6 Compatibility with other Honeywell Products

Co-existence with Workcenter and Experion PKS
Several Honeywell products including Workcenter, Uniformance Process Studio,
Experion Station, and eServer use Honeywell’s HMIWeb components and these products
may require a local installation of HMIWeb on client computers. Incompatible versions
of HMIWeb cannot be installed on the same computer.
The Uniformance Process Studio HMIWeb graphics runtime and HMIWeb Display
Builder options use HMIWeb. UPS with either of these options can only be installed with
the versions of Experion Station, eServer, and Workcenter listed in the following table.

Uniformance Process Studio Release 320 Software Change Notice  9

2. Uniformance Process Studio R320 Users, Supported Platforms and Software
2.6. Compatibility with other Honeywell Products

Product Releases with compatible

versions of HMIWeb

Experion PKS Station R400, R410, R430

Experion PKS eServer Premium client
Experion PKS eServer standard access

Workcenter (release numbers refer to Business R230 and later1

FLEX releases)
1
Workcenter 230 (and later versions) and UPS R320 can be installed on the same client
computer and will run independently. In addition, UPS R320 can call up Workcenter 230
(onwards) graphics within the UPS client as well as displaying UPS graphics. This is in
addition to the normal use of Internet Explorer to display Workcenter graphics.

TIPS

It is possible to install UPS with older versions of these products provided

that you do not install the UPS HMIWeb components (i.e. the HMIWeb
Display Builder and Graphics runtime options). In most cases the UPS
installation package will detect an existing incompatible HMIWeb version and
deselect the UPS options automatically. Alternatively, this can be done using
the Custom installation option. See the UPS Installation Guide for more
information.

UPS R320 without the graphics runtime option installed can call up
Workcenter graphics but not UPS graphics.

UPS can be used to create or edit Workcenter displays. When creating a

new Workcenter display in UPS, you may see the message “Cannot
communicate with Uniformance Process Studio or the Workcenter server”.
This is expected behavior. To avoid this message update the Workcenter
display template with the Workcenter server name. Alternatively, you can
ignore the message and update the Build time server setting in the Data
Sources property tab for the new display.

ATTENTION
UPS R320 must be installed after Workcenter if the two products are being
installed on the same computer.

To install a compatible version of Workcenter on a UPS system, you must re-

install UPS after installing Workcenter.

10  Uniformance Process Studio Release 320 Software Change Notice

Experion Compatibility
It is not recommended that UPS be installed on Experion Servers.
UPS is not intended for mission critical, on process environments. It should therefore not
be used on Console Stations, or Flex stations performing critical operator functions.

Experion Configuration Studio compatibility

When launching HMIWeb Display Builder from Configuration Studio on a system that
has UPS installed, Display Builder will be configured as the last version launched. For
example, if you have just used UPS Display Builder and then launch Display Builder
from Configuration Studio then you will see the UPS Builder rather than Experion
Display Builder. To then launch the Experion Builder, use the Start menu shortcut.

Safeview Compatibility
UPS can be installed on a supported Experion PKS Station version running Safeview.
However, UPS cannot be managed by Safeview.

ATTENTION
UPS cannot be managed by Safeview. Errors may occur in Safeview,
potentially causing Safeview to crash. Therefore Safeview should not be
used to manage UPS instances.

GUS Compatibility
UPS has been qualified with GUS R680 (TPS R421).

This column indicates the minimum patch level required or recommended.
Recommended practice to maintain PHD server at latest available patch level.

ATTENTION
Uniformance Process Studio must not be installed directly on a PHD Server
machine version 215 or earlier. The UPS installation package will attempt to
detect and prevent this situation.

Uniformance Process Studio can be installed directly on PHD Server R310

and R320 machines.

PHD Client Compatibility

UPS is deployed with PHD Client components 320.1.0.
Typically it is not necessary to update PHD Client components on a UPS machine when a
PHD Server patch is applied. This includes when the server patch includes an update to
PHD client components on the server.
UPS is tested with new PHD Server and client patches before they are released. Any
compatibility issues or special considerations will be detailed in an online update to this
document and where relevant the PHD patch release letter.

PHD Desktop Compatibility

Installation of the legacy PHD Desktop R215 package with UPS is not recommended.
Instead, a Visual PHD and Modtag package is available for UPS customers who need
these components of the PHD Desktop. See note below for details.

12  Uniformance Process Studio Release 320 Software Change Notice

ATTENTION
Visual PHD components and Modtag are not distributed with UPS. They are
available in a separate installation package which can be downloaded from
HPS Support Online. Refer to:

OPC HDA Server Compatibility

UPS R320 OPC data source has been qualified for use against the following OPC
Historical Data Access (HDA) servers:

Product Version

Experion PKS R410, R430

PHD R300, R310, R320

OSI PI 3.4.364.70

Note: UPS does not support connections to OPC Data Access (DA) servers.

Tag Explorer Compatibility

Uniformance Process Studio R320 now uses the UPS Tag Browser both in UPS and in
Excel Companion. This provides a common experience for deployment, usage, and
configuration across both applications.
Tag Explorer can be used with UPS R320 but users will need to manually create a
shortcut to the application to launch it. Tag Explorer is installed to:
<Installation drive>\ Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Honeywell\Uniformance
Note: Due to tightening of Windows security policies, drag and drop from Tag Explorer
to UPS Trend and/or Table may not be possible on some systems. A workaround may be
possible but will need to be considered carefully by each customer in light of potential
security concerns. Contact Support for more information.

Uniformance Excel Companion Compatibility with Previous Versions

Excel Workbooks created or saved using Uniformance Excel Companion R320 are not
backwards compatible with previous versions of Excel Companion. This is due to the
significant changes needed in Excel Companion for ease of installation, simplifying future
upgrades, and consistency of configuration and operation with UPS.
If you use any advanced function calls in VBA (such as UNIF_function_refresh) then you
will need to modify your code slightly to work with with Excel Companion R320. See the
section Migrating Advanced Functions in the Excel Companion User Guide for more
information.

4. UPS Licensing Overview
3.2. Functionality Removed or Not Supported

Obtaining and Configuring UPS Licenses

The steps to configure UPS licenses are detailed in the UPS Installation Guide. A
summary is as follows:
1. Decide on how many Advanced and Developer licenses you need, based on the
expected maximum number of concurrent users of each license type
2. Order the licenses through your Honeywell Account Manager
3. The Account Manager will submit the license order to the Order Administrator
by e-mail (hpssoftwareorders@honeywell.com)
4. The Order Administrator will reply with a Software License Certificate that
includes an Order Reference (normally in the format SW-nn-nnnnn ).
5. Using the GenHostID.exe utility described in the installation guide, generate a
license.hostid file for your network License Server.
6. Important: Rename the license.hostid file generated in step 5 to include the SW
reference number from your Software License Certificate, plus the name of the
computer to be licensed. Preferred format is:
<SW Reference #>_<ComputerName>.hostID

Example: SW-12-12345_mypcname.hostid
7. Email the .hostid file generated in step 6 to the Order Administrator
(hpssoftwareorders@honeywell.com). You must quote the Order Reference
(SW- number) from the Software License Certificate in the subject line or
body of your email. If you do not have the Order Reference number you must
quote the System Name (Mnnnnn), which is also provided on the Software
License Certificate.
8. The Order Administrator will reply with a .ulmlicense file. Install the.ulmlicense
file on your License Server to activate your UPS licenses.
9. Run the ULM configuration wizard on any UPS clients which will obtain their
license from the License Server and configure the name of the License Server to
connect to. This step is not necessary if you specified the name of the license
server when you installed UPS.

TIPS
 Licenses are locked to the computer on which the .hostid file was
generated. The .hostid file contains a unique identifier for the computer
and this information is embedded in the .ulmlicense file.

 To move a license from one license server to another you will need to
generate a new .hostid file and request a new license from the Order
Administrator.

 The Network license server uses TCP port 5712. You may need to open
this port on your network to permit access to the license server.

 If you know the host name or IP address of the license server at the time

18  Uniformance Process Studio Release 320 Software Change Notice

you install UPS, you can specify it at installation time to avoid the need
to configure it after installation.

Commuting Licenses
Commuting a license reserves it exclusively for your UPS client computer for a
nominated period of time. A commuted license is unavailable to other UPS client
computers until the license has been returned or the commute period expires.
Commuting a license is useful in circumstances such as the following:

 Assigning a semi-permanent license to a high-priority user. Commuting the license

guarantees that the user will be able to obtain a license when they need it.

 Obtaining a license for “offline” use – for example to allow a user to build UPS
graphics at home when not connected to the company network/servers. However, this
scenario has limited practical value because a connection to a server is needed for
some aspects of display building, including testing.
Once you are finished with the commuted license you should return it so that it is
available to other users. When returning a license, your UPS client must be able to
communicate with the License Server over your network.

To commute a license:
1. Launch UPS and obtain the type of license that you want to commute.
2. Launch the ULM Commute Wizard from All Programs > Honeywell
3. On the Current Licenses tab, select the license you obtained in Step 1.
4. Next to the Commute Selected Licenses button , enter the number of days that you
want to commute the license for.
5. Click Commute Selected Licenses. The license has now been reserved for exclusive
use for the nominated number of days, or until you return it.

To return a commuted license:

1. Launch the ULM Commute Wizard from All Programs > Honeywell
2. Click on the Commuted Licenses tab.
3. Select the license that you want to return from the list.
4. Click Return selected licenses.
