Barcode Scanner JDK 1426 replaces Scanner IT3900 and ST 3700


Purpose
This support bulletin provides information regarding the release of the JDK 1426 for
use on the BCS® XP System.
This Support Bulletin provides information regarding spare part obsolescence of the
Barcode Scanner ST 3700 (SMN10457495) for the BCS® XP System
As a replacement the Barcode Scanner JDK 1426 is released for the BCS® XP
System and will be installed in new instruments.

If this Update Kit was installed just upper metal plate needs to be removed for
Scanner JDK 1426 installation.

Description
This support bulletin provides information regarding the release of the JDK 1426 for
use on the BCS® XP System. This scanner will be factory installed on new BCS®
XP System analyzers starting with serial number 221656 and is currently available
as a spare part when scanner replacement is required.
With this, the ST 3700 (SMN10457495) and IT 3900 (SMN 10450403) barcodes
scanners are now obsolete for use on the BCS® XP System.

Assembly instructions:
Please note, the scanner input plug has no code pin and must be plugged in as like
shown in the picture below. Fixation plate is delivered with the scanner.

Distr_KX Jumper setting:


The Jumper J1 on PCB Distr_KX must be set to Pin2-Pin3 as seen in the picture
below.

Scanner configuration for BCS XP:


Please perform the scanner setting according to the attached note
”BCSXP NOTE FOR BARCODE SCANNER JDK1426.pdf
and verify functionality as described. These settings are very important to
avoid non-readings for very special barcodes.

Reading window for Y-Adjustment:
The reading window between the released scanners is slightly different. The
adjustment menu refers to the stored parameters which might be out of range for the
new scanner. See picture below.

Y-Adjustment procedure:

Perform adjustment below as needed.

a) Perform the Scanner Y-Offset Adjustment. (Adjustments/Rack unit/Tube detection


/AJP3: Scanner Y-Offset). Store the adjusted value.
b) Modify KAS EEPROM Address #94.
 Backup EEPROM Parameters. (Basics/ Subsystem Parameters/ Transfer
EEPROM).
 Go to dialog the Modify EEPROM dialog (Basics/ Subsystem Parameters/
Modify EEPROM).
 Select the Subsystem KAS and click on the “Load” button.
 Locate and click on any of the data displayed for EEPROM address #94.
(The “Edit controls” fields will fill with the information for EEPROM address
#94.)
 Edit the displayed ‘Value (dez)’ data by adding +20 to the current value and
clicking on the “Set” button.
 Click on the “Store” Button.
 Close the Modify EEPROM screen.
 Backup EEPROM Parameters. (Basics/ Subsystem Parameters/ Transfer
EEPROM).

Additional Information

Compatibility with BNII System


For a safe usage on BNII systems scanner needs another configuration compared to
BCS systems. If scanner is exchanged between BCS and BNII systems there is a
risk of barcode misreading if scanner is not configured properly.
Please always refer to corresponding bulletin and package insert and follow
instructions carefully if scanner will be exchanged between systems or status is
unclear.

Scanner Read redundancy:


Depending on the quality and type of used barcodes at customer site the increase of
the scanner read redundancy from 8 to 12 was implemented on a few analyzers
only.
This modification, as described in Service Bulletin SB016, is not necessary for the
JDK1426 scanner.

Barcode types that should not be used:
 EA 128
 UCC 128
 GS1 128
 Any barcode with hidden function code such as FNC1 or FNC4
