TASK 10-12-00-550-822-A - Keep the Aircraft Serviceable in Fly-Away Storage


EFFECTIVITY: 001999

NOTE: This procedure is applicable to aircraft in storage with a maximum storage time of 18 weeks.

7. Procedure

SUBTASK 10-12-00-001-102-A00

A. Open all the doors and the curtains in the passenger compartment.

B. Seven-day Procedures
(1.) Examine the aircraft for obvious damage and interference.
(2.) Drain water from the fuel system.
(3.) Set the flight control lock lever to OFF and move all the surfaces and trim surfaces through the full range.
(4.) Set the flight control lock lever to ON.
(5.) Make sure that the shock struts have the correct extension (Refer to 12-13-05, Pageblock 301) .
(6.) Make a check of the tire pressures and increase the tire pressures as necessary.
(7.) Make sure that the protective covers are still serviceable and in position.

Fourteen-day Procedures
(1.) Install the batteries (or connect an external power unit).
(2.) Remove the protective covers (Refer to 10-11-00, Pageblock 201)
(3.) Set the flight control lock lever to OFF.
(4.) Start and operate the engines (Refer to 71-00-00, Pageblock 501) :
• for 9 minutes at IDLE rpm
• for 1 minute at CRUISE rpm.
(5.) Move the propellers several times through the full range, then once to full feather and back.
(6.) Make sure that these systems and components operate correctly :
• fuel cross-feed
• de-icing and anti-icing
• the air conditioning (with full HOT selected)
• the flaps
• the ailerons, including the spring and balance tabs
• the elevators, including the trim tab

• the rudder, including the trim tab and horn-balance.


(7.) Stop the engines (Refer to 71-00-00, Pageblock 501) .
(8.) Make sure that the fuel tanks are at least 40 percent full.
(9.) If dummy tires are not installed :
(a) Make a mark on the tires at the ground contact point
(b) Remove the NLG/MLG wheel chocks.
(c) Move the aircraft forward (or to the rear), until the marks are 120 degrees from their position.
(10.) Put the wheel chocks in position (Refer to 10-11-00, Pageblock 201) .
(11.) Install the protective covers (Refer to 10-11-00, Pageblock 201) .
(12.) Set the flight-control lock lever to ON.
(13.) Remove the batteries (or disconnect the external power unit).
(14.) Close all the windows, cargo, service and passenger doors.

Fourteen-day Procedures
(1.) Install the batteries (or connect an external power unit).
(2.) Remove the protective covers (Refer to 10-11-00, Pageblock 201)
(3.) Set the flight control lock lever to OFF.
(4.) Start the APU and let the rpm become stable, then stop the APU (Refer to 49-00-00, Pageblock 501) .
(5.) Start and operate the engines (Refer to 71-00-00, Pageblock 501) :
• for 9 minutes at IDLE rpm
• for 1 minute at CRUISE rpm.
(6.) Move the propellers several times through the full range, then once to full feather and back.
(7.) Make sure that these systems and components operate correctly :
• fuel cross-feed
• de-icing and anti-icing
• the air conditioning (with full HOT selected)
• the flaps
• the ailerons, including the spring and balance tabs
• the elevators, including the trim tab
