PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN:

• August-Sept. 2008 : Short-term project under the Damodar Valley Corporation guided by Prof.
Manish Bhatacharjee measures to reduce the alkalinity and removal of impurities like Silica
and other carbonates from the raw water used for the condenser tubes in order to reduce
corrosion without decreasing the flow rate. Methods researched & suggested included use of
acidic AlCl3 (which would be regenerated) to reduce alkalinity and Purolite for Silica removal.
Project also included an industrial visit to the Durgapur Power Plant to gain first-hand
experience regarding the functioning of the plant and the problems faced by it.
