IV. Procedures
A. Pre-activity
1. Review Differentiate sociology, anthropology, and political science
2. Motivation Individual and Group Activity: Ask the students to
complete the worksheet individually. Use colored paper
or colored index cards for the worksheet. They can use
words of symbols to describe each category about
themselves. The students should keep their worksheet
for a later activity

3. Presentation Lecturette:
Defining Culture and Society from the perspectives of anthropology and sociology
1. Society as a group of people sharing a common culture
2. Definition and Aspects of Culture
B. Activity Proper Quadrant Work:
On a ½ sheet of paper, students will discuss and write the material and non-material culture
that they can observe in their school and community. They should give 10 examples for
each category.
C. Post Activity
1. Analysis A group discussion will follow where chosen members of the group will be asked to present
their answers to the class. Encourage class participation. Make sure to clarify the difference
between the 2 types of culture.
2. Abstraction Ask:
How does material culture transmit culture? How can non-material culture transmit beliefs,
traditions, and customs? What beliefs, traditions, and customs have you learned from
school? From your family?
How do we preserve our material and non-material culture?
3. Application Show a video regarding to the importance of eating together as a family (lucky Me
commercial)
Ask: Does your family eat together at all times? Why or why not? What other aspects of
family culture in the Philippines have changed because of technology, education, and social
media?
