CALL for ABSTRACTS for the

5th International Conference on Integrative Disaster Risk Reduction

Management (ICIDRRM), Eastern Samar State University,
Borongan City, 4–6 September 2018

The Eastern Samar State University, Main Campus, Borongan City is pleased to
invite researchers, faculty, and graduate students from research institutions and
universities to submit poster and research abstracts for consideration at the 5th
International Conference on Integrative Disaster Risk Reduction
Management (ICIDRRM) which will be held on 4–6 September 2018 in
Borongan City, Philippines. This year’s conference theme: “Plan. Act. Live.” will
address the issues and strategies in integrating disaster risk reduction and resilience
into development work a top priority and in finding ways on how to develop quick and
timely response to disasters.
The conference will accept papers and posters on the following four (4) thematic areas
in line with NDRRM framework namely: 1) disaster preparedness; 2) disaster response;
3) disaster rehabilitation and recovery; and 4) disaster prevention and mitigation.
Online submission for both the abstracts and poster send to
essu.disaster.summit@gmail.com on or before 12 August 2018.
Abstracts/posters submitted later than 12 August 2018 will be accepted for
presentation only, not for competition.

The following guidelines will be adopted in the submission of Abstract

for Paper Presentation:

 Interested presenters/competitors are advised to submit a one (1) page 8 1/2” x

11” with one inch margin at all sides extended abstract (title, author (s) and
affiliations and the email address of the corresponding author(s), condensed
paragraphs of Introduction, Methodology, Results and Discussion, and
Conclusion) of the research, in single–space, Arial font 11, MS Word Format.
 Abstracts must not exceed 500 words.
 Key words should clearly indicate the topic of research so that relevant reviewers
can be appointed.
 Official communications will be sent to author/s of abstracts/posters which have
been approved for presentation and competition on or before 17 August
2018.
 E–copy of the full–length paper (double–spaced with Arial font 11 in an 8 1/2” x
11”, letter size paper) approved for competition should be submitted online on
or before 26 August 2018 to give enough time to reproduce the paper and
forward them to the panel of judges.

 For Poster Presentation, we prescribe the following guidelines:

 Posters should be attractive self–explanatory, that is, presenting organized and

concise key ideas, conclusions and recommendations.

 The design shall follow sequentially from one part to the next (left to right or on
top of the bottom).
 Number or arrows may be used to help the eye move from one item to
item in the correct order.
 Poster text should be presented in no more than three (3) colors. Dark typed on
light background is easiest to read.
 Photograph/illustrations should be 5” X 7”. Captions and labels should be
readable from two meters away and not cluttered with unnecessary details.
Graphs are preferable to tables. Use only one vertical scale graph.
 The author/s should be around to answer queries or clarifications from the
audience.
 The poster must be mounted/displayed in the designated area at least an hour
before the scheduled opening program and must remain on display until the
closing ceremonies.

Poster Format:

Poster Size : 30 ft. x 40 ft. (in portrait)

Font Size : 72 for title, 46 succeeding heading, 20 as minimum size for the
text
No artistic fringers/borders, drawings and the like
Actual specimens/products may be presented but not attached to the poster

Author/s will likewise be notified of poster acceptance both for presentation and
competition on or before 17 August 2018.

Major Criteria for Evaluation (both Paper and Poster)

1) Relevance/Significance
 Implications/relevance to the (4) thematic areas (1) disaster preparedness; 2)
disaster response; 3) disaster rehabilitation and recovery; and 4) disaster
prevention and mitigation.
 Potential contribution to the RDE and S&T (e.g. social, economic, ecological)
2) Organization (content)
 Comprehensiveness
 Over–all quality (validity, reliability and dependability of results)

Interested parties are reminded that they will be only be allowed to present
either a paper or poster during the event.

In the conduct of oral presentation, presenters are advised to take note on the
following:

 Presenters are required to provide the Conference Secretariat an

electronic copy of their power point presentations upon registration to
give time for the Conference Technical Committee to organize the
presentation sequence.
 Each presenter will be given fifteen (15) minutes to present their paper
(the number of slides must be limited to the allotted time) and five (5)
minutes to answer questions.
 The moderator will aid the presenter in adhering to time allocation and
fielding questions from the audience. Timing procedure includes twelve
(12)–minute warning sign from the moderator and fifteen (15)–minute
stop time. At the fifteen (15)–minute point, the presentation will be
stopped, even if the presenter has not finished the presentation.
