CEIT 319 – Instructional Technology and Material Development Reflection

We chose the subject of Geometric Shapes (triangle, circle and square) as a unit because

it is a general topic that all children should learn. In addition, we thought that we could find a

lot of activities related to this topic. Since geometric shapes is a topic in our daily lives, we did

not have any difficulties in finding activities. After deciding our activities, we have thought

about which tools can be appropriate for our activities, and then, we decided to use PowToon

(we used in two times), Google Form, Pictochart and GOConqr, which are used in order to

consolidate the subject and to assess what children learnt. For evaluation part, we prepared a

survey by using Google Form. Our purpose for preparing is to include families in the activity,

and to measure children’s knowledge about the topic.

We have tried to consider all the steps of ASSURE model while we were planning our

lesson plans about geometric shapes.

For the “A”nalyze Learners step, we have targeted 48-60 months children age group.

Based on their developmental level and background, we have prepared lesson plans and unit

plan. In order to be appropriate for their developmental level, we have taken advantages from

ECE program.

For the “S”tate Standards and Objectives step, we decided on the objectives for our

activities by looking at the book of Ministry of National Education, and then, we arranged them

according to ABCD model.

For the “S”elect Strategies, Technology, Media, and Materials step, first of all, we

followed the guadline. Than, after we prepare the lesson plans and unit plans, we examined

material options and selected the most appropriate one to our plans. For example, while

writing plan as an introduction to the colors, we wanted to prepare an educational video in

order to catch their attention to the topic.

For the “U”tilize Technology, Media, and Materials step, we have used tools that we

learned during the course in enriching the content of our activity. With these tools, our aim was

making learners more engaged in the activity.

For the “R”equare Learner Participation step, we supported children’s learning by

using technology and media, and by trying to ensure their active participation in our activities.

For the “E”valuate and Revise step, we know that evaluation part is really important

because it is a way of understanding whether our objectives worked or not. Therefore, to

measure how much they have learned, we try to ask different kinds of questions, and also, we

prepared a survey to assess their knowledge about the topic by using the Google Form.
