Japanese Slangs

Slangs:
there is alot of slangs that Japanese people use; either in their
daily life or on the internet to express their feeling,also there are
slangs that are used by otaku(person who is addicted to Japanese
pop culture as anime manga etc).

1-daily life slangs:

-Maji de?: it's written in katakana, and it means (serioulsy/so), and


it's used when you want to express kinda of a shock feeling either
it was a shock of joy or sadness

E.g: Nee, sekai-isshu ryokou ga atatta yo! Maji de?

i won an around the world tour! Seriously?

-超 (chō): it's written either by kanji or hiragana, and it means


(Very/super). it's a very informal word that is used by young
people only,and not used in formal writting

E.g: Chou Chou ii (very very good)

Chou semai (very small)

Chou oishii (super tasty)

-キモい (kimoi):it means (gross) and it is derived from the word


(kimochi warui) which means gross,u can say this word to express
repulsion or describe something or someone action

-半端ない (hanpa nai): it means(insane) either in a good way or


bad way and it doesn't mean being insane in the head

E.g: ame hanpa nai (the rain is insane)

or when someone do something cool or hard u can say (Hanpa


nai)

-ムカつく (mukatsuku): it means (Irritating) and can be used in a


sentence or alone to complain about something or someone

-うざい (uzai): it means (Annoying) and it is the same as


(mukatsuku)

E.g: Ano Hito maji de uzai! (this person is seriously/so annoying)

-Charai: it Means (flirtatious) it's written in katakana,and it have


kinda an negative feeling or impression in it.

E.g: ano hito wa hansamu desu ga, charai desu

(This person over there is handsome but flirtatious)

-Iya da: it's written in hiragana, and means (no way)

E.g: ashita daigaku he ikitakunai, Iya da


(I don't want to go to the college tomorrow,no way)

-Hidoi: Written in hiragana. It means (mean/terrible)

E.g: ano hito wa hidoi yo

(that guy is mean/terrible)

-微妙 bimyō:Written by hiragana and it means (meh) which is an


expression that means neither good or bad but it tends more to
the bad side

E.g: Bimyo da na (It's meh/not that good)

-Saikou: which means (cool/best)

E.g: Ashita wa yasumi, saikou

(tomorrow is a holiday,cool)

-それ (sore), それな (sore na): it means (Exactly!, That’s what I


was gonna say) sore generally means that but when used in a
conversation between friends and u want to agree with them or
had the same idea you can use sore

-ウケる (ukeru):It means (Hilarious) and it's used when


something funny is said and you want to show your amusement
-Kamacho:written in hiragana. it means(pay attention)

E.g: Kamatte cho (pay attention to me)

-KuriBocchi: Kuri is written in (katakana),and Bocchi in (hiragana).it


means to be alone on christmas day

E.g:

-やばい Yabai/Yaba:it means (risky/wow) its meaning differs from


suituation to another. if it is used in a bad suituation it means
danger or risky and if it's used in a good one it means awesome
and it's equal to sugoi.and alot of people say yabakunai instead of
sugokunai. yabai wasn't a word an adj at first ,as in the edo era
people used it to express danger they would say Yaba and the
kanji of (ya) is the kanji of danger or misfortune, kanji of (ba)
means place,and by time it changed to yabai and became an i adj.

2- otaku slangs:

-Moe:written by kanji or hiragana and it means cute(kawaii) but


it's used by otakus,and they don't use it with things they use it to
talk about cute girls
-Ria-Juu: it means (a person who is happy in his life/successfull)
and most of the time they mean the people who are in
relationships and it consists of 2 parts Rirau: which means real life
+ Juujistu: Full Filling

E.g: Ria-Juu darake

(bunch of Ria-juu) note: Darake means bunch or filled with

3-Internet slang (netto go)

-Majiseru: it means (to respond Seriously) and it's used when


some say a joke for example and some one don't understand it
and respond to the joke in a serious way

-Menburu:written in katakana,and means (mental break)

-Ikemen/Ikebo: which means handsome/handsome voice

-Riatai:written in katakana and means (real time)
