Get More Math software
ACTIVITIES (There are three sections here):

OPENING (Introduction, purpose, hook)

 The teacher (Mr. Z) will welcome everyone to Math Intervention and pass out the welcome sheet
 The teacher will say that the purpose of this course is to try and help all of you become better at algebra
 The teacher will also say that I understand that this is probably not your favorite class nor your favorite subject,
but we are going to try and make this as informative and personalized to your needs
 As a side note, the teacher will mention that students who pass the keystone tests do not have to attend school on
those days according to and say that it’s always nice to have some extra time off from school right?
 The teacher will write the bolded parts of the objective using the iPad and the smartboard

BODY (Bulleted step by step/differentiation must be included)

 The teacher will go through each of the three categories in which students will be graded on the welcome sheet
 The teacher will ask students to get out their Chromebooks and go to “getmoremath.com”.
 The teacher will ask students to click on the “login” button
 The teacher will ask students to click on the “student” button
 The teacher will say that students do not need to create a new account; it has been created for them already!
 The teacher will tell students that their username is their last name followed by the first letter of their first name
o For example: Username for John Smith is SmithJ
 The teacher will tell students that their password is just their last name
o For example: Password for John Smith is Smith
 The teacher will walk around the classroom to check and make sure that each student has the ability to login to
getmoremath.com (GMM)

CLOSURE (Wrap up and brief summary): How will you plan to restate the lesson objective?
 The teacher will say that we went to GetMoreMath.com for the first time today and talked about how you will be
graded in this course
 The teacher will finish the lesson by saying that we are going to provide individualized attention based on your
individual needs because a lot of you are very close to passing the keystone test. The difference between you
passing and failing the test is a couple of problems.
 Now let’s work together and make sure you can do those problems, pass the test, and earn some time off from
school! Who is with me?

ACCOMMODATIONS/MODIFICATIONS:
 Students who cannot access GMM will be able to use my laptop or a paper worksheet with five problems for
today’s lesson

ASSESSMENT: (How you will determine that student has mastered objectives?): Consider formative and summative
assessment measures for all levels of differentiation.
 The student will master the objective of logging into GMM by having the software confirm that the student
logged in during class

SELF-ASSESSMENT/REFLECTION: (Complete this section if you have taught this lesson to peers or in clinical
placement):

I felt that I did a good job for my first day of introducing the Math Intervention course that I will have complete
control over. The students seem to understand what my expectations are and were receptive and to how they
will be graded in the course. All present students were able to login to GetMoreMath.com (GMM) and complete
the short introduction assignment by correctly answering 5 addition problems. I also thought that I did a good
job at checking for student understanding by walking around the room and interacting with each of the students.

Mr. Johnson liked the fact that I had students keep their Chromebooks away until they needed them. He liked
my use of a mini introduction assignment with five addition problems, and he did not observe any poorly
worded questions that I posed to the students. He also commented on the fact that I had a nice flow to the lesson
and that the lesson was well-timed.

I feel that I could have done better at having the students interact with me at the start of the lesson. Almost all of
these students were present during one of my introduction lessons, but there were about two or three students
that were not. I feel as if these students were not open to participation yet in class, because they did not know
me yet as a teacher. I also feel that I could have done better at giving the students their login information for
GetMoreMath.com (GMM) as my strategy could allow some students to access other students’ accounts and
potentially do their work for them.

I also feel that I could have done better at describing the pacing of this class. This class is meant to be more of a
tutorial session so I did not have a general list of topics that I wanted to cover throughout the rest of the quarter.
Upon reflecting from this lesson, I now have a topic list that will cover the most essential information that these
students will need in order to help them pass the Keystone Algebra I exam.
