TSA-200X
© 2011 – 2012 Telefire Fire & Gas Detectors Ltd Revision 1.01 April 201
1 Introduction
The TSA-200X is a conventional (Not Addressable), combined, Fire Detection and Fire
Alarm System-referred to as Control and Indication Equipment (CIE), and a Fire
Extinguishing Control and Delay Device, referred to as Electrical Automatic Control and
Delay Device, ECD.
The TSA-200X ECD is designed and certified to EN 54-2, EN 54-4 and EN 12094-1
standards.
The TSA-200X, due to its flexibility and the options it supports, can control a variety of
gas extinguishing systems, such as CO2 Inert gas, Halocarbon gas and Aerosols.
It supports one flooding zone with two detection zones inputs. Both inputs can contribute
to the extinguishing decision.
Using Telefire's proprietary adapters, the extinguisher output can drive different
extinguishing devices, such as Solenoids, GCA, Electric Matches, etc.
Most of the inputs and outputs of the TSA-200X are pre-assigned and preconfigured.
However, they can be modified to a specific extinguishing system's requirements, and to
additional extinguishing systems, such as water systems, which are not covered by
EN 12094-1.

In addition to complying with the mandatory requirements of the EN 54-2; EN 54-4 and
EN 12094-1 standards, the TSA-200X also supports the following options with
requirements:

3 Important Notes
A detailed explanation of the operation of the ECD is provided in CONTROL PANEL
OPERATION on page 43.
The information in the current chapter is provided to highlight certain issues.
Note
i When connecting a remote Manual Release Triggering Device, USE ONLY
an approved and certified Manual Release Triggering Device, of the correct
type and color, per EN 12094-3.
Note
i If zones, which are not members of the extinguishing decision group, are
triggered, the ECD changes its state to "Fire Alarm", BUT DOES NOT
ENTER THE PREACTIVATED or the ACTIVATED states, and the
extinguisher is NOT triggered even if two such zones are triggered, and are in
the "Fire Alarm" state.

Use the supplied wires to connect to the CP to the batteries, and to connect the two
batteries in series.
Since the batteries used are maintenance free, and the ECD automatically controls the
battery charging, discharge and test, no SPECIAL maintenance is required.
OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:
Connect the battery to the ECD main board battery terminal block using the supplied
wires. Observe polarity.
Place and connect batteries in the Control Panel, only after the Control Panel is properly
installed and is in the correct (upright) position.
Place batteries so they are adjacent to the back of the Control Panel enclosure, as
shown in the appropriate drawings in the TM.
Place protective covers on batteries' terminals when the battery wires are disconnected
from the battery.
Remove batteries (after assembling protective terminals covers) from the control panel
before moving or shifting the Control Panel.
Keep the area near the batteries' terminals free of foreign objects, metals, or bare wire to
avoid shorting the batteries.
Keep the batteries clean and dry
Keep the area well ventilated
Smoking, fire or sparks ARE NOT ALLOWED near batteries.
When working on batteries, DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES AND ALL OTHER
POWER SOURCES
Note
i If batteries show any signs of swelling, rupture, fluid leakage, emission of

6 Access Levels
The control panel provides protection from unauthorized access of certain functions by
incorporating various access levels.
The TSA-200X includes electronic and mechanical means that enact 4 access levels,
per EN 12094-1 Annex A:
• Access level 1 – not limited, immediate access by operator
• Access level 2 (operator) – protected by an operator password. Provides all of
access level 1 functions and allows access to additional functions that are
performed on a regular basis by the system’s operator.
• Access level 3 (programmer & installer) – protected by a programmer password
(different from the operator's password!). Provides all of access to level 1 and 2
functions and allows access to additional functions such as programming, and
access for functions performed during installation.
Note
i Access levels 2 and 3 have different passwords. This is not correlated to the
number of times the password has to be keyed in to access a certain menu.
The default access level 2 password is 1111. The default access level 3
password is 2222. Access level 3 password can also be used as access level
2 password.
Some sub-menus which are accessible at level 3 require that the "level 3" (programmer)
password be entered in a single menu, while other menus (for reason of additional
protection) require the level 3 password to be entered in two different menus.
A "Manual and Automatic/Manual Only" KEYBOARD switch, password protected, is
located on the front panel.
• Access level 4 (see EN 12094-1 5.3.2 and EN 54-2 Annex A)
The batteries and AC power lines are only accessible after removing several screws and
opening the door which requires a screwdriver.
Level 4 programming is accessible after the door is open, and by using a dedicated PC
software tool (Telefire TCS-200) and a Telefire proprietary RS 232 adapter (GRS-232).

Note
i Charging is stopped in the alarm state; hence the charge current draw in the
Alarm state is ignored.
The extinguisher has priority over other outputs, and the control panel internally draws
(see the Tech Specs above) 0.16A. Hence the current for the remaining devices is 1.5-
0.16- extinguisher current, or 1.34 – Extinguisher current. Allocate the remaining current
between the other devices, according to their priority. If the total 1.5A limit is not violated,
and the maximum current drawn from of each single output is below its allowed limit, you
can add devices (such as multiple sounders, strobes, etc, PROVIDED THAT EACH
SINGLE OUTPUT LIMIT IS NOT VIOLATED, AND THE TOTAL power supply LOAD
CURRENT IN THE ALARM STATE (SUM OF THE ECD INTERNAL AND LOAD
CURRENTS) DOES NOT EXCEED 1.5A!

9 Installation
9.1 System Pre Installation Planning
9.1.1 Capability Planning
Verify that the total number of input initiating devices does not exceed the local
regulations of the number of initiating devices per zone, area or other limitations. Verify
that the number of zones satisfies all the relevant requirements.
9.1.2 Calculating Current Requirement and Battery Capacity
For every control panel, calculate the total current consumption of all devices such as
sounder, beacons, extinguishing cylinders actuators, Extinguishing Activated sign,
automatic dialer etc.. Ensure that the total current draw does not exceed 1.5A.
The batteries are rechargeable, sealed lead acid batteries, in total voltage of (Nominal)
24 volts (two 12 volt batteries in series) and capacity of 5 AH.
9.1.3 Cabling Planning – Input lines
Use a 2-wire cable, 12 – 18 AWG (0.8 to 3.3 mm2) for IDC (zone) connections.

9.2 Mounting
The control panel should be installed in an indoor location. Avoid exposure to outdoor
environment to prevent high humidity or dust or air pollution.
Mount the TSA-200X to a solid wall so there is access to connecting the cables from the
input and output devices and maintenance personnel for ongoing operations, and in a
location where it is possible to supervise and clearly see the display and indicators.
The back of the box has several dimples. In three of these dimples there are mounting
holes, two holes close to the top of the box, and one mounting hole at the middle, close
to the bottom
The two larger (10mm) holes are for insertion of wires from the back of the control panel,
when required.
Use the drawing below as a guide for drilling the three mounting holes in the vertical
surface/wall to which the control panel is to be attached.
Drill the three fastening holes. Insert three anchors fully.
Insert three screws from inside the control panel box through the back of the control
panel and tighten.
Note
i It is not necessary to remove the power supply pr the main board to install the
control panel.

9.3 Wiring
9.3.1 Routing Cables into the ECD and Maintaining the Protection
Level
In order to route power and field wiring into the ECD, the appropriate, partially punched
knockouts must be removed.
Use a hammer and a chisel to open and remove the knockout.
Do not remove unnecessary knockouts
Remove burrs and sharp edges.
Note
i To maintain the IP30 protection level, use appropriately sized cable glands
such as CABLE GLAND NEMA 4X PG-7 BLACK manufacture by BUD, or
equivalent.
Insert the cables through the glands before connecting the wires to the ECD.
Tighten the gland's cover nut to securely clamp the cable or group of field
wires.
This serves as a strain relief and as means to meet the IP30 environmental
protection requirements.
Note
i If unused knockouts opening remain, they must be plugged with an
appropriate, secure cover/plug to maintain the required protection level.
Warning
! Disconnect all power supplies, main and batteries before connecting or
disconnecting cables to the control panel.

Note
i Input and output lines must be wired as a single radial circuit, without stubs or
T- junctions.
Warning
! Disconnect all power supplies, (main and batteries) before connecting
or disconnecting wiring EOL devices or other devices to the control
panel.
Verify that the system operates normally and that there are no zones in
alarm prior to connecting or replacing extinguishing devices.
Note
i DO NOT CONNECT EOL RESISTORS TO OC1, OC2, RELAYS OUTPUTS
AND 24V OUTPUTS.
Most extinguishing adapters have on-board EOL resistors, so no additional
EOL resistors are required. Verify EOL requirements for each specific
extinguishing adapter.
Note
i Manual Call Points act like Detector inputs
THEY ARE NOT MANUAL RELEASE (EXTINGUSHING TRIGGERING)
DEVICES.

One dialer output is a FWRE (Fault Warning Routing Equipment) and the other is
programmable by dedicated PC software as a "Fire Alarm" dialer or as a "Released"
dialer
12.2.3 Interfaces Monitoring
All the Inputs and outputs (except Open Collector and Relays contacts outputs) lines are
monitored for the following faults:
Open, Short and ground Faults.
12.2.4 Extinguishing Decision Group (Decision Matrix)
To enable the ECD to activate the extinguisher by alarms triggered from the inputs, a
decision group (or Decision Matrix) must be defined. When the matrix is asserted (i.e.,
when all the extinguishing conditions are fulfilled) the extinguishing process starts.
The Extinguishing Decision Group that the TSA-200X supports can include a single
zone, or both zones.
Extinguishing can be activated from a specific zone, from any one of the two zones, or
only when both zones are triggered (Two zones Coincidence).
12.2.5 Default Configuration
The default configuration details are as follows;
Inputs 1-2 are detection zones inputs;
The extinguishing module is enabled;
The extinguishing decision group (matrix) includes zones one AND two. (Two zones
Coincidence);
The extinguishing Pre Discharge Warning time (Delay) is 30 seconds;
The Extinguishing Pulse Duration is 20 seconds;
Manual Activation Delay is zero (i.e., immediate manual activation);
Alarm Delay is zero (OFF, no verification);
Alarm/Released dialer is configured by default as an Alarm Dialer (see below);
See also Default Ports Allocation and ECD Configuration, page 19, for further details.
12.2.6 Extinguishing Zone Members
The Extinguishing zone members are all those inputs, outputs, relays and indicators that
are part of the extinguishing process, beyond elements which are involved in fire alarm.
The group includes the following
Inputs: Hold, Pressure switch, Manual Only, Manual Activation,
Outputs: Extinguisher, Extinguishing Strobe/Sounder, Released Dialer
Open Collector outputs: Hold, Manual Only.
LEDs: All the LEDs in the front panel Extinguishing Zone area. (Pre/Activated, Released,
Hold, Manual Only, Fault)
All the LEDs on the EM1 card adjacent to the card's I/O ports.
12.2.7 Released/Alarm Dialer
The TSA 200X has a Released OR Alarm dialer output. By default, it is configured as an
Alarm dialer output, but can be programmed by a PC as a Released dialer output.
The default selection of Alarm, rather than the Released dialer output, is because it is
considered a more practical solution.
However, if a Released dialer is required, configuring the dialer output as a Released
Dialer can be performed by programming through a PC, as explained before.

TSA-200X

Note
i This is the 2nd stage of the automatic release process,
Note
i If the Delay is programmed to Zero, the ECD triggers the extinguisher
immediately, skipping the Pre-Discharge warning time.
During the Pre-Discharge warning time (or Countdown), the Delay LED flashes, the
Extinguishing (Evacuation) Strobe/Sounder flashes at 1 second ON, one second OFF,
and the buzzer ticks at a 1 second interval.
If Hold is activated during Countdown, the Hold LED and Hold output are ON, the
Extinguishing Strobe/Sounder flashes at 1 second ON, 4 seconds OFF, and so does the
buzzer (Fault condition buzzer sound), and the Delay LED is ON.
The delay is programmable (only with dedicated PC software) between 0-50 seconds in
5 seconds steps. (When the extinguishing delay is set to zero, the ECD is programmed
to Non Delayed operation)
12.3.6 Extinguishing Pulse Duration and the Released Condition
When the extinguishing delay elapses, (if the countdown reaches zero, or if the
extinguishing delay is zero), if there is no fault in the Hold input, and if the Hold input is
not asserted, then the ECD triggers the extinguisher and enters the extinguishing pulse
period, and also enters the Released condition.
In the extinguishing pulse period, the extinguisher output is ON for (default of) 20
seconds.
The extinguisher pulse duration is programmable between 20-495 seconds, in 5
seconds steps, by dedicated PC software.
In the Extinguishing Pulse Duration the Extinguisher output is ON, the Evacuation
Sounder/Strobe output is ON, and the Released Dialer is ON (If the Dialer is configured
as a Release dialer).
When the Extinguishing Pulse ends, the extinguisher output is OFF, but other outputs
remain ON until Reset occurs.
12.3.7 Reset Inhibit Period
From the start of the Activated state to the end of the extinguishing pulse duration
period Reset, Programming, and Disablement are inhibited. The released
condition remains.
12.3.8 Post Extinguishing Pulse
After the extinguishing pulse ends, The ECD, still being in the Released condition,
also enters the Fault condition. Also, Reset, Programming, and Disablements
become possible (enabled))
In this state, the General fault Led, the Extinguishing Zone fault LED, the Fault relay and
the Fault Dialer are activated. This is done in order to verify that the operator is aware
– Page 46 of 65 –
TSA-200X
© 2011 – 2012 Telefire Fire & Gas Detectors Ltd Revision 1.01 April 201
that the extinguisher has been activated, it is now depleted (i.e., in a Fault condition),
and needs attention and corrective action. The buzzer remains in the Alarm state (ON).
12.3.9 Reset Performed
After Reset is performed, (If alarm sources are removed) ALL alarm indications, outputs
and relays are OFF.
The Fault state remains:
The General Fault Led, the Extinguishing Zone fault LED the Fault Dialer and the Fault
Relay are ON, and the buzzer enters the Fault state.
12.3.10 Reestablishing the Quiescent condition after extinguishing
After ALL the issues are resolved (Alarms removed and faults fixed) and the
Extinguisher is replenished and brought to working order, and then performing Reset,
the ECD remains in the Fault state, and can then be brought back to the Quiescent (Idle)
state.
To do this, using the ECD keyboard, the programming mode has to be entered and
exited, and then Reset has to be performed.
If all issues are resolved, and there are no pending events, the ECD returns to the
quiescent state. (See Operating Instructions).

13 Operating Instructions
13.1 Default Operation
If the ECD is in the quiescent state, the Manual/Automatic operation is set to the
Automatic & Manual mode, then alarms from fire decision detection zones/Call points, or
manual activation, will start the extinguishing process according to the programmed
configuration and timing parameters. If the process was not interrupted by inputs like
Hold, or by Hold fault, the extinguishant is released.
Note
i If the ECD is in the Pre Discharge Warning Time caused by detection zones
triggers, and then the Manual Trigger (PB) is activated, the extinguisher is
released immediately, regardless of the programmed delay of zones, or the
programmed delay of the Manual Trigger.

13.6 Hold
Sometimes, when the alarm is triggered and extinguishing is imminent, some additional
delay to that already programmed is required before release. This can be achieved by
activating the Hold input.
Activating the Hold input while the ECD is in countdown, switches the Delay LED ON
(i.e., it stops flashing), switches the "Hold" LED and Output ON, stops the Delay Count
down, and reinitializes the Pre Discharge Warning Time (Delay)
The countdown starts again when the Hold is deactivated, i.e., when the switch is
released.
During the countdown, the buzzer ticks at one second intervals, and the extinguishing
strobe sounder pulses one second ON and one second OFF.
If Hold is activated during that time, the buzzer sounds the Fault signal (1 second ON, 4
seconds OFF), and so does the Extinguishing Sounder/Strobe.
This is done so people are informed audibly that Hold was activated.
The Hold input has no effect after Extinguishant release has started.
Note
i If the ECD is in the Pre Discharge Warning Time (Countdown, or
Extinguishing Delay) caused by detection zones alarms, and then Hold is
asserted, and then the Manual Trigger (PB) is activated, then when Hold is
de-activated the extinguisher is released immediately, regardless of
programmed delay of zones or of the PB (Manual trigger).

13.9 Reset
Pressing the Reset key resets the ECD if it is in the Alarm and Preactivated states. From
the start of the Activated state to the end of the Extinguishing Pulse Duration, asserting
(pressing) reset has no effect.
If all events and problems are cleared and resolved, reset (when enabled) reestablishes
the quiescent (or idle) state, with one exception.
After the extinguishing pulse has elapsed, reset will change the state of the ECD as
described earlier, i.e., all alarm indications and outputs are OFF, BUT THE
FAULT OUTPUTS AND INDICATIONS ARE ON, and only after entering and exiting
the programming mode, and then pressing the reset key again (if all issues are
resolved. i.e., no events) will the Quiescent state be reestablished.

13.11 Disablement
It is sometimes necessary to disable certain functions or interfaces of the ECD. (For
example, if some welding is done near detectors, the ECD might be activated, and it is
required to disable the affected zones, and rely on Manual Activation for protection
against fire)
The control panel will ignore alarms from disabled zones and will not activate disabled
outputs.
Programming the Disablement is possible only when Reset is enabled.
Note
i Disabling the Extinguishing zone disables the inputs and the outputs of the
extinguishing zone members, except the Manual Release PB input. When the
Extinguishing zone is disabled, pressing the Manual Release PB triggers an
alarm, but not extinguishing.
13.12 Fault
The ECD monitors most of its inputs and outputs for faults.
When a fault is detected, the following occurs:
Fault relay and fault dialer (FWRE) are activated.
Flashing fault LEDs: general fault LED, zone fault LED (if applicable), Ext, Zone LED (if
applicable)
Also, the specific fault LED in the general area middle or left column is ON.
The buzzer sounds the Fault signal (1-4 ON-OFF time ratio.)
Fix faults when they are discovered.
13.12.1 Fault Relay Output
A Fault relay is provided, as per EN1294-1, paragraph 4.3.2 (e).
The dedicated fault relay has SPDT contacts.
The contacts used for fault indication are the Common (C) and the Normally Open (NO)
contacts
During normal operation (no fault) the relay is powered and the Common and Normally
Open contacts are closed. (The Common and Normally Closed contacts are open)
During fault, or when the ECD is not powered, the relay receives NO POWER, the
Common and the Normally Open contacts are OFF. (The C and NC contacts are
closed).
13.12.2 FWRE (Fault Dialer) Output
This output It is used as a FWRE (Fault Warning Routing Equipment, or Fault Dialer)
output as specified in EN 54-2.
Note
i During normal operation, the FWRE output is powered. When a fault occurs
in the ECD, the power to the FWRE is OFF, triggering the dialer.

14.1 Programming by a PC
Some programming and modifications cannot be performed by the operator or
technician, through the front panel, and are limited to access level 4.
These parameters modifications are performed by connecting a PC with a proprietary
and dedicated Telefire software through a serial link, to the ECD.
The list of parameters that can be modified by a PC and their range is shown below:
Note
i ANY Programming by the PC sets the Extinguishing Delay ON.
To set the Extinguishing Delay to zero(OFF), set it OFF using the front panel
after you have finished the programming by the PC.
• Pre Discharge Warning Time (Extinguishing Delay): 5-50 sec. 5 sec. steps.
• Extinguishing Pulse Duration: 20-495 sec., steps of 5 sec.(1-99 of 5sec. units)
• Manual Activation Delay: OFF (Zero delay) or ON (delay time is set equal to the Pre
Discharge warning time)
• Output 2 is assigned as an Alarm Dialer or as a Released dialer
• Changing the Password
Note
i If the TSA-200X is set to its default value, or programmed by a PC for a
certain (Non Zero) extinguishing delay, and then the front panel is used to
program the delay OFF, and then the front panel is used to program the delay
back to ON, the Extinguishing delay is set to its last programmed value.
(Default value or value programmed by a PC).

19 Troubleshooting
19.1 Faults
When in the quiescent (Idle) state, the Power (Green) LED is ON with periodic short
OFF pulses.
When a fault occurs, it results in (at least) the following:
General Fault LED Flashes, Fault Relay activated, FWRE activated, buzzer sounds 1
second ON, 4 seconds OFF (Fault Signal).
If the fault occurs in any of the extinguishing related inputs or output, the extinguishing
zone fault LED also flashes. In addition, a fault LED of the specific port flashes also.
To assist in troubleshooting, the TSA-200X has 5 fault LEDs on the EM1 Extinguishing
expansion module, adjacent to the inputs and outputs terminal blocks.
Note
i These support LEDs are only visible with the door open!
The LEDs are assigned to (from left to right): Extinguisher, Extinguishing Sounder,
Pressure Switch, Manual Release, and Hold.
Troubleshooting and fault analysis can be performed by observing the display, analyzing
the source of the fault by monitoring the Front Panel LEDS that flash, observing the EM1
LEDs that flash, and then dealing with the cause of the fault.
After repair, the proper operation can be verified, i.e., the control panel is OK when no
fault is indicated.
