BLUETOOTH TECHNOLOGY

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a wireless technology used to transfer data between different electronic

devices over short distances. This technology eliminates the use of cords, cables,

adapters and allows the electronic devices to communicate wirelessly among each

other.

Types of Bluetooth Devices:

Head Set
 In-Car Bluetooth System

Bluetooth Equipped Printer

Bluetooth Equipped Web Cam

Bluetooth GPS System

Importance of Bluetooth

 These have replaced cables for transferring Information from one electronic

device to other.

 These have decreased effort like carrying phones while talking, making hands

free to do any other work.

 These are easily available at low cost.

 Its mobility is also very important as it doesn’t need any power outlet or Internet

connection or any other items.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF

BLUETOOTH TECHNOLOGY

Advantages of Bluetooth:

 Wireless: There is no need of wires in wireless communication and Bluetooth is

a wireless technology.

 Bluetooth is not expensive: The technology of Bluetooth is a low cost

technology for companies to implement.

 Bluetooth is Automatic: Bluetooth doesn't have you set up a connection or

push any buttons. They will automatically begin to communicate without you
having to do anything.

 Low interference: Bluetooth devices help to avoid interference from other

wireless devices as they require pairing of device before communicating.

 Low Energy Consumption: Bluetooth technology requires very little energy and
uses less battery or electrical power. This is an excellent benefit for mobile
devices

 Sharing Voice and Data: The standard for Bluetooth will allow compatible
devices to share data and voice communications. Bluetooth simplifies driving and
talking on your cell phone.

 Instant PAN (Personal Area Network): You can connect up to seven Bluetooth
devices to each other within a range of up to 30 feet, forming a piconet or PAN.
Disadvantages of Bluetooth:

 Too many unfeasible applications so do we really need it?

 Data sent between two Bluetooth devices is very slow compared with Wi-Fi
transfer Rate.

 Range of a Bluetooth Device is 15-30 feet depending upon the device.

 Security is the biggest disadvantage as transfer takes place through radio waves
and a hacker can easily hack it.

 When Bluetooth is ON the battery drains fast.

FUTURE OF BLUETOOTH TECHNOLOGY

 Bluetooth has a good future ahead because it meets a basic need of

connectivity.
 Currently a protocol is being researched that would support large adhoc (not
fixed) networks i.e. increasing the range of bluetooth.
 Latest version of Bluetooth is improving both in its security and capabilities.
 New versions of Bluetooth technology will meet high-speed and large
range.
