Parlamentul European este o adunare parlamentară multinațională unică, aleasă în mod direct de

către cetățeni. Cei 751 de membri ai Parlamentului European reprezintă peste 500 de milioane de
cetățeni din 28 de state membre. Cetățenii europeni pot participa la procesul politic în mai multe
moduri. De pildă, ei pot vota la alegeri, își pot contacta deputatul care îi reprezintă în Parlamentul
European sau pot adresa petiții Parlamentului European.

Acesta are 3 roluri principale:

Rol legislativ
- Parlamentul European decide în comun cu Consiliul UE cu privire la actele legislative care
influențează viața de zi cu zi a cetățenilor Uniunii. Printre temele acestor acte legislative se
numără libera circulație și protecția consumatorilor, mediul și majoritatea sectoarelor economiei.

Rol bugetar
- Stabilește bugetul UE, împreună cu Consiliul.
- Aprobă bugetul pe termen lung al UE

Rol de control
- Exercită control democratic asupra tuturor instituțiilor UE
- Aprobă modul în care s-a cheltuit bugetul UE
- Analizează petițiile cetățenilor și formează comisii de anchetă
- Discută politicile monetare cu Banca Centrală Europeană.

The European Parliament is a unique multinational parliamentary unit, chosen directly by the
citizens. The 751 members of the European Parliament represent over 500 million citizens from
28 Member States. The european citizens can participate in the political process in various
ways. For example, they can vote in elections or contact the MEP who represents them in the
European Parliament or can submit petitions to the European Parliament.
The PE has 3 main roles:
Legislative role - The European Parliament jointly decides with the EU Council on legislative
acts that affect the daily lives of EU citizens. The themes of these legislative acts include free
movement and consumer protection, the environment and most sectors of the economy.

for adopting EU legislation. Under the ordinary legislative procedure, both institutions act as equal
co-legislators.

The role of the budget - Sets the EU budget together with the Council. - Approves the EU's
long-term budget

Role of control - Exercises democratic control over all EU institutions - Approves how to spend
the EU budget - Analyzes citizens' petitions and forms investigative committees - Discusses
monetary policy with the European Central Bank.
