Subject Instruction – access to industry standard products

Hello, everyone. This is Sara Davis, Librarian for Jacobs, located in Houston, TX.

It has been brought to my attention that there might be a number of you, there in the Jacobs office in
Jacobs ZATE who are not yet able to access the industry standards product that your office
management has paid for you to be able to access. Please note, I am talking about the standards that
are from U.S standards organizations only.

You were notified of the availability of the standards back when we moved from JNET to Jacobs
Connect and now I am asking that each of you please check to make sure that you have access using
the information below: (please note, if you don’t use US standards in the course of your work, please
delete this message now)

You can get to the industry standards access point by clicking on this URL:
https://jacobsconnect.jacobs.com/community/company/project‐resources/technical‐
library/codesstandards‐technical‐library

Once there, you will need to look to the far right hand side of the page. There you will find 2 boxes.

Box #1 will be labeled Library Contacts. Box #2 will be labeled IHS Codes & Standards.
Inside Box #2, labeled IHS Codes & Standards, you should find 2 links. One link will say ASTM – this is
not a link that you need to be concerned with, your office mgmt. has paid for you to access the larger
license. Another link will say Industry Standards (IHS) – Abu Dhabi. This is the link that you will click in
order to access the larger license of industry standards that your office mgmt. has paid for you to
access.

Once you click on that link, you will be taken to the Do’s & Don’ts page. Please read, at least once, the
rules that govern your use of the industry standards product. These standards are U.S. copyrighted
documents and there are legal restrictions on what you can and cannot do with them. Please note that
you must follow the terms & conditions outlined in the Do’s and Don’ts for if the vendor or standards
societies find out that these Do’s and Don’ts are not being followed, they will turn off access to the
standards for the entire corporation. After reading the Do’s & Don’ts, please click on the I Agree, Go to
IHS button.

You should then be taken to a USER LOGIN screen. If you are taken anywhere else, you are in the
wrong place. Once at the USER LOGIN screen, you will either: Re‐identify yourself to IHS as an
already registered user OR Register to use the product, as a first time user.

Tel: +966 13 821 4000

Re‐identify yourself: fill in your IHS user name, which is your Jacobs.com email address. Fill in your IHS
password, which is the password you chose for yourself, by yourself when you’re originally registered to
use the product. Choose your Secondary location – in this case, the Performance Unit number that
applies to you. If you don’t remember what your IHS password is, scroll down the screen to the Forgot
Your Password link and click it. Please note, once you re‐identify yourself to IHS, you will bypass this
screen the next time you go to the product.
Register – for first time users only – click on the Register button and follow all directions that appear on
the screen. Registration is a onetime process although if something happens to your computer, you
may need to re‐identify yourself to IHS. Writing down your IHS password, somewhere safe, might be
something to consider.
After going thru the steps that apply to you, you should be taken into the product and can start
searching.

If you are interested in seeing what standards organizations are available to you for
viewing/downloading/printing, click on the link that is called “What Do I have Access to?” That will
produce a list of organizations whose standards you can use.
Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of industry standards! If you have any questions or
experience any difficulty going thru the above, please let me know.
