2. The temperature of a system rises by 150C during a heating process. Express this rise in
temperature in kelvins. (2)
3. Someone claims that the absolute pressure in a liquid of constant density doubles when the
depth is doubled. Do you agree? Explain. (2)
4. The pressure of the helium inside a toy balloon is 1000 mm Hg. What is this pressure in
kPa? (2)
5. In what forms can energy cross the boundaries of a closed system? (2)
6. What is flow energy? Do fluids at rest possess any flow energy? (2)
7. Show the relation among atmospheric, gauge and absolute pressure. (2)
8. Derive the mathematical expression for enthalpy from the first principles. (4)
9. What is the physical significance of hfg? Can it be obtained from knowledge of hf and hg?
How? (4)

10. What is the specific internal energy and specific enthalpy of water at 50 kPa and 200 C?
(4)
11. A 100-L container is filled with 1 kg of air at a temperature of 270C. What is the pressure in
the container? (4)
12. A mass of 5 kg of saturated water vapour at 300 kPa is heated at constant pressure until the
temperature reaches 2000C. Calculate the work done by the steam during this process. (4)
13. A rigid tank contains 10 kg of air at 350 kPa and 270C. The air is now heated until the
pressure doubles. Determine (a) the volume of the tank and (b) the amount of heat transfer.
(6)
14. Air enters an adiabatic nozzle steadily at 300 kPa, 200°C, and 30 m/s and leaves at 100 kPa
and 180 m/s. The inlet area of the nozzle is 80 cm2. Determine (a) the mass flow rate
through the nozzle, (b) the exit temperature of the air, and (c) the exit area of the nozzle.(10)
