First Site Visit

For my site visit, I went to the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery at the University of

Maryland Baltimore County. When I first entered the library, I was taken aback by the size, and I

didn’t know how I was going to find anything. I started my visit by going to the desk at the

entrance of the library and getting a special borrowers card for high school students. I went on a

Saturday, and it was raining, so there were a fairly large number of people studying inside. I

chose this library for my site visit because it is close to my house and it was the most convenient

for mine and my family’s schedule. I was impressed by the number and types of resources

available. I was only able to stay for about half an hour because they had a power outage, so they

had to close the library, but I learned quite a bit in my time there. I accomplished my goal of

getting a library card, so I now have access to their books, and I started to figure out how to

navigate the library. I got to browse their shelves, and I looked through some Journals of the

American Medical Association. I learned about the kinds of articles that they publish. They

mainly publish new research, reviews of old research and opinion pieces. I want to go back to

explore their online resources and to check out some books. I did not meet anyone there, as

everyone there was a student, and they were all doing their own work. I mostly looked around in

the collections section of their library, which had a lot of old books. I was looking for some

newer material, though, so I mostly just explored where everything was in the library. They had

some floors that I didn’t get to check out, so I also want to do that when I go back. Overall, it

was a very educational and exciting experience.
