1. GENERAL
1.1 Summary
A. Scope of Specification
This specification prescribes the minimum requirements for labor, services, supervision,
administration, management, inspection, warehousing, mobile equipment, tools, maintenance,
materials, consumable materials, testing devices, and each item of expense necessary for the
receiving, handling, hauling, uploading, placement, installation, assembly, field erection, touch
up painting, quality control, testing and evaluation of Electrical equipment. Drawings and
specifications complement each other; however, in case of conflicts, drawings shall govern, as
they are intended to identify all materials and equipment required to assemble the facilities. Any
deviations from the specification or drawings shall be authorized in advance by the Company’s
representative.
Electrical installation shall include all grounding, lighting, power and control systems as indicated
on the contract drawings and specifications. In addition, the electrical installation portion for
mechanical equipment packages, instrumentation and control systems and communication
systems as required are included in the installation contract. Refer to the installation contract
scope of work for particular details and specific installation requirements for the project.
A cable management system is in place with a third party vendor. The contractor shall provide a
cable list (as indicated on the cable schedule) to cable management vendor a minimum of two
weeks before required pickup. The vendor will cut the cables to length, provide the cables in
reel as per Contractor´s requested lengths complete with a steel plate at the reel indicating the
circuit number, provide two cable tags per cable, teck connectors for power and control cables,
motor termination kits and stress relief kits when required. Lighting, receptacle and
miscellaneous cables will be bulk issued but no teck connectors and cable tags will be supplied.
The work includes but not limited to:
1. Coordination of mechanical and electrical equipment installations with the erection of steel
and concrete structures in the most efficient manner possible to meet the construction
schedule
2. Provide on-site support for manufacturers representatives on site
3. Assemble, level and install all electrical equipment as listed on the electrical equipment list
(240K-C2-LS-65-001) including supply and installation of all materials required to put the
equipment in full operating order
4. Contractor shall comply with manufacturer's latest printed instructions for materials, supply,
storage and installation methods, unless otherwise specified
5. Supply miscellaneous steel, channel, strut, beam clamps, brackets, fasteners, bolts, nuts,
threaded rod, anchor bolts, grout, washers, bases, conduit, and conduit bodies to complete
the installation of the following but not limited to:
cable tray system including barriers and covers as indicated and conduits
control (hand) stations
thermostats
disconnect switches and welding receptacles
junction boxes
light fixtures and receptacles
C. Supplied by Company
1. Concrete foundations for electrical equipment
2. Supply of electrical equipment as indicated in electrical equipment schedule
3. Supply of cable tray, hold down clamps, tray cover and barriers with the exception of the
tertiary trays
4. Supply of light fixtures and lamps unless otherwise stated
5. Supply of medium voltage and low voltage Power and Control cables utilizing a cable
management system
6. Teck connectors and cable tags for all cables listed in the cable schedule
7. Supply of medium voltage stress relief termination kits, motor termination kits and medium
voltage-Connex connectors by Pfisterer
8. 34.5 kV cable tray clamps
9. Welding receptacles and associated junction boxes and terminal blocks. Contractor shall
install the terminal blocks in the junction boxes

1.2 References
A. The publications listed below form part of this specification. Each publication shall be the latest
revision and addendum in effect on the date of this specification unless noted otherwise. Except
as modified by the requirements specified herein or the details of the drawings, Work included in
this specification shall conform to the applicable provisions of these publications.
B. Codes and Standards
1.3 Submittals
Contractor shall submit material samples and documentation to Company’s representative’s
representative for review and approval prior to purchasing and installation.
1.4 Quality Assurance
A. General
1. Refer to Section 1.1D Related Documents and Section 3.4 Inspection and Testing.
2. Contractor shall not substitute component suppliers after award of a contract without
Company’s written approval.
3. Company reserves the right to witness any tests or inspections which they consider
necessary to ensure that equipment installation conforms to Quality Assurance
requirements.
4. Contractor shall supply Company with the complete list of documentation that Contractor
intends to produce for review. Such documents shall cover installation records, quality
control, inspection procedures, deficiency evaluation and correction.
5. Inspection reports shall be made available for inspection by the Company.
6. All defects in excess of agreed acceptance criteria shall be reported immediately to the
Company by Contractor and evaluated by for possible corrective action. All corrections
proposed shall be subject to Company’s approval.
7. Contractor’s inspectors shall confirm that final installation matches all construction
drawings. Unanticipated field conditions, modifications required during installation and
other non conformance shall be thoroughly documented and recorded.
B. Qualifications
1. Installation Contractor shall provide an experienced project team who are working under
direct supervision of a full time project manager who carries total responsibility for all
aspects of the work. All key people shall be subject to approval of the Company.
2. Contractor shall supply, on request, the current qualifications and experience of the
following personnel on staff or with sub-suppliers; project manager, quality control
engineers, field erection supervision and journeyman electricians.
3. The performing and reporting of all hi-pot and meggering testing will be by qualified
personnel.
1.5 Product Delivery and Handling
A. Materials provided by the Company shall be staged outside the project site in a secured lay
down facility. Contractor shall be required to provide two week advance notice for material
requests in order to allow adequate time for the material management group to assure
availability of required materials and issue accordingly.
B. Contractor shall verify the MTO and make appropriate arrangements and provisions for providing
all equipment and materials that were not mentioned in the list of items for construction.
C. The receipt, handling, transportation and dispatch from the Company’s warehouse to the work
area of electrical equipment and materials supplied by Company will be the complete
responsibility of the Contractor. Upon completion of the work, all surplus Company supplied
equipment and materials shall be returned by Contractor to Company’s warehouse.
1.6 Site Conditions

2. PRODUCTS
2.1 General
Components and equipment shall be installed in accordance with this specification, Section 1.1D –
Related Documents, and the attachments.
2.2 Manufacturer's Instructions
A. Install all equipment in strict compliance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Should it become necessary to deviate from the manufacturer's instructions, prior approval of
Company is required.
C. All drawings, together with manufacturer's specifications and installation manuals remain the
property of the Company and shall be returned after completion of the contract.
D. Contractor shall coordinate through the Company’s representative all subcontractor and supplier
representative needs with a minimum of twenty eight day notice.
2.3 Interferences
A. Check all clearances, equipment foundations and other fixed points for correct position prior to
equipment installation.
B. Should any major interference be evident, report to the Company’s representative who will
determine the responsibility for interference and the required correction.
2.4 Receipt of Equipment
A. After arrival of equipment at site, transport equipment from lay down area to the installation
locations. It shall be inspected by Contractor’s quality control inspector for damage and checked
against bill of lading for completeness.
B. If equipment or parts received for installation are damaged or fail to comply with manufacturer's
certified prints or purchase orders, immediately advise the Company’s representative such that
proper corrective measures can be taken.
2.5 Handling of Equipment
A. Handle equipment with care to prevent damage to equipment, buildings or other installations. If
lifting lugs are not provided, use slings of fabric or wire covered with hose sleeves for lifting
components to avoid scuffs and abrasions.
B. Contractor shall be responsible for repairing damage incurred while handling equipment in their
custody.
C. Handle equipment in strict accord with manufacturer requirements.
2.6 Correction of Defective Work
A. If proper assembling and fitting of parts cannot be made by a moderate amount of reaming,
chipping or cutting, the work shall be considered defective.
B. Written reports with details of defective work shall be submitted to the Company’s representative
who will then authorize repair or replacement as necessary. Unless written reports are submitted
prior to corrective work being done, no claim for extra work will be considered.
C. Keep an accurate record of each repair made and of all labor, material and equipment charges
applicable to the correction, but do not include any charges not directly involved with the
correction. Forward two copies of the record to the Company’s representative as soon as it is
completed. All such records shall bear the date and the signature of the Company’s
representative and will not be validated unless so marked.
D. Correction of minor misfits shall be considered a part of this contract and no claim for extra
payment will be considered. No alterations to equipment shall be undertaken without the written
permission of the Company's representative.

3. EXECUTION
3.1 Equipment and Scaffolding
A. Supply all equipment and scaffolding required to perform the installation work.
B. Retain on the site only equipment which is in good and safe operating condition. The Company
reserves the right to have the Contractor remove from site any equipment which is not
performing to acceptable standards.
C. Retain at all times sufficient equipment, harnesses and scaffolding on site in order not to delay
the scheduled work. Refer to site Health Safety Environment manual regarding scaffolding.
3.2 General Installation
A. General
1. The Contractor is responsible for all assembly required for having the equipment operable.
This may include work not shown on the drawings or called for in the specifications, but is
a normal part of this type of equipment installation. The Contractor shall be satisfied as to
the extent of the work, type, and electrical features of all equipment to be installed.
2. The Contractor is responsible for the installation of all auxiliary components which are
provided with the equipment to be installed.
3. The contractor is responsible for drilling holes when required for field fitting. Drilling holes
in structural steel beams and columns shall only be permitted with written authorization
from the Company’s representative. Drilling holes in equipment bases shall comply with
vendor specifications and applicable drawings.
4. Do not remove from the construction site any equipment or scaffolding without the written
permission of the Company’s representative.
B. Cable Tray
1. Support cable trays according to the manufacturer's standards and installation details for
the desired loading. The supporting system will allow for tray expansion as well as tray
containment.
2. Cable tray system shall be installed and supported in accordance with the contract
drawings and NEMA Standard VE-1.
3. Fit cable tray with expansion coupling and guides on straight runs.
4. Test metallic cable tray splice plates and expansion couplings to maintain a resistance not
exceeding one ohm. All splice plates and couplings shall be approved for earth continuity.
5. Provide and install a 4/0 AWG grounding conductor in the tray as indicated on the
installation details and bond to tray and structural steel as indicated in the details.
6. Bond and effectively earth cable trays to provide a continuous path for fault current.
Materials for grounding shall be compatible with those used for the tray fabrication.
7. Field modifications or bends shall maintain earth continuity.
8. Cable tray systems shall be complete before installing cable.
9. Bond conduits, ducts, or wireways feeding or picking up cabling from a cable tray to the
tray in an approved manner to maintain continuity of equipment ground.
10. Check the tray load rating to verify capacity for total weight of cable to be installed in tray
11. Install a barrier in the cable tray as indicated to separate cables of different voltage levels.
12. Install a tray cover where indicated.
13. Where vertical cable trays penetrate floors install a tray cover up to 1000mm above floor
level.
14. Do not use cable trays as walkways under any circumstances
C. Cable Installation Practices
1. Cable runs shall be segregated by voltage and duty into groups, adjacent groups shall
have a minimum spacing as specified.
2. Cables in trays shall be secured not to exceed two meters on horizontal runs, one meter on
vertical run trays and 500mm on horizontal runs mounted on edge.
3. Cable tray bending radius shall not be less than the minimum bending radius of cables in
the tray, provided by the cable vendor.
4. Single conductor cables shall be bundled with suitable clamps in triplex formation to
withstand the dynamic loads associated with short-circuit, to remain in their position, and
not damage cables nor clamps.
5. Do not bend cables to radii smaller than that specified by the cable manufacturer.
5. As a general rule, ground all towers, building structural steel, steel structures, vessels,
tanks, mechanical equipment and other similar process equipment
6. Ground all switchgear and motor control centers located in electrical rooms by two
separate connections from their ground busses to different main ground busses inside the
room. Connect these busses to the main ground network.
7. Provide a 4/0 AWG insulated (green) ground to the DCS cabinet.
E. Supports
1. Shop and field fabricated supports such as channels, struts, brackets, hangers, slotted
angles to be hot dipped galvanized. Repaint all cut sections with galvanizing primer.
2. Ground all supports, but do not use support steel as ground conductors for electrical
equipment.
3. Do not use powder-actuated tools without written approval by the Company.
F. Lighting, switches, receptacles and welding outlets
1. Standard installation assembly details, as referred from the plan drawings, depict the
minimum requirements and typical configuration of equipment and electrical devices.
Installation shall meet or exceed these requirements, whereas configuration and
orientation may be adjusted to suit field conditions.
2. Deviations from the standard assemblies shall be reviewed and approved by Company’s
representative.
3. For clarification of the minimum requirements and to define standard technical practices,
refer to standard installation notes, which may be supplementary to the assembly details.
4. In addition, review the general notes on each drawing for clarification or modifications that
may be intended for the detail installation.
3.3 Equipment Installation
A. Liquid Filled, Cyclo-Converter, Excitation and Isolation Transformers
1. Transformers shall be installed and assembled in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions.
a. Transformers smaller than 5 MVA will be shipped completely assembled and filled
with liquid dielectric.
b. Transformer greater than 5 MVA shall be assembled and filled with liquid dielectric on
site:
(1) Protect against moisture or foreign materials entering the transformer.
(2) Assemble the radiators, cooling fans, conservator tank, instrumentation,
cabling, HV bushings (where required)
(3) Use clean pumps, hoses and filters to fill the transformer with liquid dielectric.
Liquid electric dielectric will be supplied as part of the transformer supply
package and will be delivered in barrels.
(4) Provide anchor bolts where required.
2. The Contractor shall be responsible to check the transformer foundation location to
coordinate attachment of primary and secondary cabling.
8. Perform tests according to the project testing specification. Complete inspection and
testing of switchgear and motor control center components, instruments, meters and
relays.
F. Insulating Rubber Mats
Contractor shall provide insulating rubber mats in front of the full length of all MCC’s, switchgear,
AFD’s, lighting and distribution panels in stick built electrical rooms, Mats to be rated as below:
1. 50 kV rating for 34.5 kV equipment
2. 20 kV rating for 5 kV and lower equipment
G. Adjustable frequency drives that are installed in stick built electrical rooms
Install adjustable frequency drives in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Take the
following precautions:
1. Store indoors in a clean, dry place with a moderate temperature. Cover with plastic tarp.
Install and activate space heaters inside units. Space heaters shall be kept energized until
switchgear is in service.
2. Store switchgear breakers upright and supported so that studs will not be bent or breaker
parts damaged. Do not use moisture-absorbing covers. Use nonabsorbent paper or
plastic.
3. Torque all bus bolts to manufacturer's recommendations.
H. DC Batteries and Uninterruptible Power Systems
1. Install batteries and battery chargers in accordance with the contract drawings and
manufacturer's instructions and charge batteries as specified by the manufacturer.
2. Energize, test and checkout of battery back-up or uninterruptible power supply system
shall be performed by, or in cooperation with, an authorized equipment representative
when start-up service is included with equipment purchase order. Otherwise, place
equipment in service only after completing the preparation requirements following
manufacturer’s recommendations.
I. Modular electrical rooms
Modular electrical rooms will contain the equipment as indicated on the drawings and be pre-
wired as much as possible. Take the following additional precautions:
1. Re-connect the internal cabling that crosses the shipping splits.
2. Install and connect exterior lighting fixtures.
3. Install signage on exterior doors.
4. Check the torque of all bolts on bus bars, cable connections and terminations.
5. Install and connect the adjustable frequency drives 50 HP and smaller that are shipped
separately from the electrical rooms.
6. Install and connect the batteries for the DC battery system and the UPS system.
7. Perform required checks and test on electrical equipment installed in modular electrical
room. This to include but not limited to:
a. Medium voltage switchgear, MCC’s, AFD’s
b. Low voltage switchgear and MCC’s, AFD’s
c. UPS, DC Battery Chargers and batteries
J. Heat Tracing
Heating tracing shall be installed as per manufactures installation instructions. Take the
following precautions:
1. Inspect and test heat trace cable for damage and electrical integrity before installation.
2. Install the heat trace with provide attachment tape and aluminum tape.
3. Install all required power connection, In-Line/T-Splice kits, cable end termination kits, RTD
sensors or control thermostats, controllers or thermostats as required.
4. Install heat trace warning labels after the installation of the insulation and covers.
K. Harmonic Filters
1. Harmonic filters shall be installed and assembled in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions.
2. Contractor shall provide supports for cable tray.
L. Mechanical Equipment
Install the electrical portion of mechanical equipment. This includes but is not limited to the
following:
1. Control Panels
2. Installation of vendor supplied cables, Company supplied cables, pendants, festoon
cables, braking resistors, lights fixtures, panel boards, transformers, limit switches and
disconnect switches as required.
3.4 Inspection and Testing
A. General
Upon completion of various systems and phases of the project, or at convenient times during the
progress of the work, wiring and equipment shall be checked and tested as specified in this
section. As a minimum the test and inspection forms attached in Section 4 shall be completed
by Contractor.
Test results shall be recorded on the attached forms to be included in the start-up system
turnover packages.
1. Grounding
Perform visual and mechanical inspection to verify proper grounding connections of the
grounding grid and equipment.
2. Power Cables
a. Perform visual inspection and verify wire numbers and actual wiring conform to the
design drawings prior to system turnover to start-up.
b. Check continuity and megger power cables. Do not megger control or
instrumentation cables.
c. Hi-Pot medium voltage cables
3. Control Cables
a. Perform continuity check on cables
b. Complete point to point checks
4. Motors
a. Motor insulation resistance tests
b. Verify RTD’s and space heaters
c. Motor manual rotation test Run in tests shall be performed on all motors 100 HP and
larger for a minimum of 2 hours. Bearing temperatures shall be recorded at 15
minute intervals.
5. Transformers (Liquid filled, Isolation, Cyclo-Converter, Excitation):
a. Megger and Hi-Pot windings
b. Check operation of tap changer
c. Verify the turns ratio (TTR) of all tap positions
d. Verify operation of all control and protection devices
e. Verify operation of cooling fans
f. Verify the correct liquid dielectric level
g. Complete a Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA)
