1. Given f (x, y) = x3 y − 3xy + y 2 . Find all critical points of f and classify them using the Second
Derivative Test.

2. Find the absolute extrema of g(x, y) = x2 + y 2 − 2x − 2y in the triangular region D whose vertices are
A(0, 0), B(3, 0) and C(0, 3).
3. Use the method of Lagrange Multipliers to find the absolute extrema of f (x, y) = x2 + y, where (x, y)
are the points on the unit circle x2 + y 2 = 1.
