Checking Before Migration

1. lppchk –v > no output

2. lslpp –I |grep APPLIED > no output
3. instfix –i |grep ML > all filesets should be installed
4. lslpp –w /usr/bin/uncompress
5. lslpp –w /usr/bin/zcat
6. ls –li /usr/bin/uncompress /usr/bin/zcat

NOTE: If the output of the first and last command shows a symbolic link or links to a freeware
issue the commands below (steps 8-9) to correct the issue.

7. mv /usr/bin/uncompress /usr/bin/uncompress.org
8. ln –f /usr/bin/zcat /usr/bin/uncompress
9. “repeat steps 5-7”

Unmirroring Rootvg

1. lspv >records output example rootvg are hdisk0, hdisk1

2. lsvg –l rootvg >check mirrored file system, should be 1:2 ratio
3. unmirrorvg rootvg hdisk1
4. lspv –l hdisk1 >hdisk1 should contain no file systems
5. migratepv hdisk1 hdisk0 >transfer the remaining file systems from hdisk1 to hdisk0
6. lspv –l hdisk1 >recheck if hdisk1 contain no file systems
7. reducevg rootvg hdisk1 >reduce volume group of hdisk1 from rootvg to none

Cloning Rootvg

1. smitty alt_clone >select hdisk1 for target disk, press esc+4 to select
2. wait until reboot
3. lspv >output: hdisk1=altinst_rootvg, hdisk0=rootvg
4. bootlist –m normal –o >boot device should be hdisk1
5. shutdown –Fr >reboot
6. lspv >output: hdisk1=rootvg (active), hdisk0=old_rootvg

OS Migration

1. insert cd installer (AIX 7.1 TL3 SP3) to cdrom

2. shutdown –Fr >reboot
3. SMS >press 1
4. “boot cdrom”
5. Press 1 and press enter to use this terminal as system console
6. Type 1 and press enter to use English during install
7. Select option 2 Change/show installation settings and install
8. Select option 3 Migration Install
9. Choose the disk drive where the operating system needs to be installed
10. Primary Language should be English
11. Select Edition should be Standard

13. oslevel –s >output: 7100-03-03
14. lppchk –v >no output
15. lslpp –I |grep APPLIED >no output
16. instfix –i |grep ML >all filesets should be installed

OS Patch / TL Update

1. lslpp –l |grep APPLIED >if there is output, proceed to step 2

2. smitty maintain_software, select commit software >select preview = yes, then change to
. NO if done
3. lslpp –l |grep APPLIED >should be no output
4. lppchk –v >if no output, proceed otherwise fix it
. first
5. instfix –I |grep ML >all filesets should be installed
6. cd /FS where file is located >example: cd /tmp/tl_update
7. inutoc . >please check(.)create table of contents
8. smitty update_all, press (.) enter >select preview=yes, accept license
. agreement=yes, then enter
9. If done press / then find failed >if no output press esc+3 and change
. preview=NO, then enter
10. oslevel –s >output: 7100-04-02
11. lppchk –v >no output
12. lslpp –I |grep APPLIED >no output
13. lslpp –i |grep APPLIED >no output
14. instfix –i |grep ML >all filesets should be installed
15. shutdown -Fr
