TRANSFORMING ORGANIZATIONS
INDUSTRY
Manufacturing
BACKGROUND
This organization is a fast growing global organisation in the area of sustainable solutions in
Energy and Environment. On this theme, the organization has developed energy-efficient
and eco-friendly solutions for industry and commerce. For over 3 decades, it has been
helping customers improve their processes, conserve energy, increase their competitiveness
and adhere to environmental norms.
BUSINESS CHALLENGE
In spite of a legacy of very good values and having outstanding HR Practices in place, the
organization was following a reactive transaction process rather than a proactively
strategizing with its partners. Especially in the Finance and Accounting department the
general mind-set was becoming seemingly risk averse as divisional silos were increasing.
Loss of profitability and rising attrition rates were posing strong impediments. Leadership
pockets or a shortage of future leaders was emerging as a grave threat. Under the
guardianship of the new CFO the team surely geared up to deliver but the stress levels were
mounting.
An atmosphere of mistrust and no knowledge sharing was a serious handicap in the growth
of the department.
PARTICPANTS PROFILE
16 participants from the CFO’s team in the Finance and Accounting team at the client
organization underwent this training programme. All team members were at Senior
Leadership roles.
Impeded by a general atmosphere of mistrust and scoring low on morale the client
organization approached the Pragati Leadership team in 2009 to propel it on a path of
recovery. The key tasks for Pragati Leadership were to reinforce bonding among teams and
to drive these behaviours across the organization. Pragati Leadership rolled out the Bonding

The intervention was designed to enable the participants attending the programme to:
Evolve individual and team action plans to achieve a shared vision for the team.
A pre-program study was done aimed at building rapport with the CFO and the key
members of his team. This enables the consultants from Pragati Leadership to enhance the
understanding of the factors which were critical to the success of the team.
The Output of this study helped us customize the BFG™ programme in terms of examples,
case lets, and clarity of strategic thrust areas.
Appreciative inquiry into the Individual and collective strengths of the team;
Surfacing challenges and working on few key issues that face the team
After every session, participants were encouraged to introspect on the learning experience
and note down ideas for action. At the end of the programme, each participant shared their
personal action plans for enhancing teamwork.
Two reviews were held in the period of six months following the Programme. The Reviews
looked at the progress made by the entire team on working towards its objective. It helped
surface enabling and hindering factors, and make further action plans for responding to
these. Also 6 Coaching sessions of one hour duration, once every month were held regularly
sessions with the CFO.
IMPACT
A review done after six months revealed visible outcomes. The CFO was largely benefited by
the programme and emerged energized and refreshed. The group dynamics too have
evolved. The highly committed team now follows a focused, prioritized approach and
believes in collaborative problem solving. The programme was such a success that BFG™
was cascaded through the entire Finance & Accounts division. the client organization has
now institutionalized a system for developing leaders from within.
An elated team member quoted; “We are a Charged Innovative Team now! The renewed
force elicited by team members has been transformational in our success.
