 Romania has many great university cities to choose from.

Apart from the

country’s capital city, Bucharest, the most well-known university centers in the
country are Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, Timisoara, Sibiu and Iasi. In the western region
of Romania, also known as Transylvania, Cluj-Napoca is the go-to city when it
comes to higher-education. It offers internationally accredited study programs
and faculties that are very well-rated. It also offers one of the greatest student
experiences. It has a very bohemian and open-minded atmosphere. Cluj-Napoca
is also known to be the city with the most foreign students.

 Cluj-Napoca is a culturally rich city with plenty of historical background going

back to the Roman times. Its first university opened in 1581, a Jesuit college, but
it was in 1872 that the University of Cluj was founded by emperor Franz Joseph.
 It is a great city to live in, especially for students and young adults since it offers
many cultural events, great pubs, cafes and dance clubs, parks and beautiful
landscapes, especially in the vicinity of the city, since it lies in close proximity to
the Apuseni Mountains.

 The best-known cultural festivals are TIFF (Transylvania International Film

Festival), SoNoRo, a classical music festival, STEPS Dance Festival, Cluj
Cultural Days, Gaudeamus Book Fair and Cluj Medieval Days. There are also a
lot of street food, beer and wine festivals that have become popular across
recent years.

 When it comes to music there is plenty to choose from. Cluj offers internationally
sought after music festivals such as Electric Castle, Mioritmc, Jazz in the Park
and Smida Jazz Festival, Untold, and many other. Its clubs and pubs also offer a
diverse music scene, from big club parties to small and intimate concerts in
cafes.

 When it comes to employability, the city is great for students and young adults
because of the numerous companies that are hiring especially in areas such as
IT and service centers. However, the rent prices are the highest in the country,
which proves to be a difficult aspect for the city’s inhabitants.

 During your studies you have the opportunity to engage in many extra-curricular
activities and participate in international programs. However, one of the
downsides of the city is that libraries aren’t open after 8pm and most books aren’t
on loan outside the library grounds. The library’s offer isn’t very satisfying either
and students often find they need to purchase themselves the books they need
for their syllabus.

 Most of the faculties are scattered across the city and there isn’t a student
campus per se, aside from the one with the student dorms. The dorm rooms
represent another negative aspect of student experience since it doesn’t cover by
far the accommodation needs of the increasing number of students and it also
fails when it comes to the accommodation facilities. Most students find that they
need to share a room with other people, a number varying from one to four. The
number of dorms which offer a single person room is very low and only some of
the university teachers or Phd students are eligible for those. Therefore, the
majority of students look for rent outside the campus, but it proves difficult to find
affordable offers, especially for the Romanian students’ budget.

 All in all, I personally think it is a great city to live and study in because it has a lot
to offer and it suits many tastes. Also, the people here are one of the friendliest
and most helpful people you will meet in the country. Almost everyone speaks
English and you will find many that speak French and German as well.
