Freshmen World Geography
Around the World Biome Tour (Preparation)
Developmental Objective(s):
Activity #1: Students will create a biome tour involving analyzing what makes up a biome
Creating the Biome and apply the information in a narrated power point.
2 Days (100
minutes)
Steps:
1. Explain to the class exactly what a biome is and what are some of the
characteristics that can be found in a biome.
2. List out the 10 biomes on page 66 of the World Geography Textbook for
students to pick from.
3. Present an example finished project for the class to view (Biome article
converted into a QR Code, Word Splash over that biome, and biome
power point that is narrated.
40-50 Minute Lesson Plan
4. Have students pair up with a partner (or can choose to work alone
should an odd number be present).
5. Have pairs roll a virtual dice with the highest number picking their
biome first (all 10 biomes must be selected, no repeats unless a class has
more than 10 groups).
6. Allow students two days to finish the project (power points will be
submitted via google classroom, QR codes and word splashes will be
handed in).
Assessments:
Formal Formative: Students will be assessed with a rubric created for the
entire project.
Assessments:
Formal Formative: Students will be assessed on their note guide with accurate
information from all 10 biomes, as well as be administered a 15 question biome
quiz.
Steps:
1. Ask students to ponder interesting facts about biomes they did not
know about before, and how this project introduced them to those facts.
2. Hand out an exit-slip form for students to answer on.
3. At the end of class have students hand them in as they leave the
classroom.
Assessments:
Students will be assessed on completion of the exit slip as well as the type of
content provided about biome facts they experienced.

Daily Reflection:
This was the first project that I have created and the first lesson for the World Geography courses.
This was also the lesson that my teacher was being evaluated on by the district. I didn’t want to make a
project where students would have to stand in front of the class and present, yet I wanted them to be able
to talk and explain the biomes out of having someone read about it. By having them record their voices
presenting the biome they do not have that fear of speaking in front of everyone. Also by working with a
partner on this I could see who would and would not work well together since I let them choose, but also
made them assign roles so they knew what had to be done. As the whole the project went great and the
students had a lot of fun looking up the information for each of their biomes. Some of them came up with
raps or a poem to read for their recordings which I said great so long as the information I required was
there.
Also with the world tour this was a nice way for students to look at all of the biomes their peers
had created. Each class would go around the room and look and listen to the different biome
presentations their peers had done for each hour, and for those with not enough groups for each biome
we would draw in others from different classes. The way I hit this project I could appeal to the auditory
learners, visual learners, and even the artistic leaners because of the word splash. Also for the bodily-
kinesthetic learners they would enjoy getting to move around the room instead of just sitting in a chair
and listening. For me this is a great start and a lot of my lessons I plan will work around each of the
different learning styles and be more engaged in activities than just lecture for an entire day. Less book
work and more practicality.
