A WEDDING PRAYER

Lord, behold our family here assembled.

We thank you for this place in which we dwell,
for the love that unites us,
for the peace accorded us this day,
for the hope with which we expect the morrow,
for the health, the work, the food,
and the bright skies that make our lives delightful;
for our friends in all parts of the earth.

Amen.

V. Giving the Bride Away

This wedding is also a celebration of family.

It is the blending of two families that have been separate up to this moment, but united
from this day forward — blending their different traditions and strengthening the family
tree.

To honor this uniting of the families, Bride and Groom wish to ask their parent’s blessing.

To begin with, let us here the message of Alvin to Cecille’s family to be followed by Cecilles
message to Alvin’s Family, then anyone from family will give message to the couple

VI. Unity Ceremony

Painted Canvas Ceremony

The couple will create a piece of art that they can treasure forever by painting on a piece of canvas
that also symbolize unity.
To make it even more special, you can carry through the symbolism of “two becoming one” by each
using a different colour of paint that, when combined, make a new colour. Thereby symbolizing their
lives and hearts entwined. Once combined, it would be extremely difficult to separate, just as the
couple are so joined together.
Unity Tree Planting
What is a Unity Tree Ceremony? A unity tree ceremony is when a couple plants a
tree together during their wedding ceremony to symbolize their marriage. The plant is
planted in fertile soil, given light and water and encouraged it to develop deep roots. You
then allow it to grow and bear fruit, pruning when necessary. The same goes for growing
a healthy marriage.
The unity tree planting ceremony can be used to symbolize the joining together of two individuals or
the joining of two families. It is also something that can grow along with their marriage.
This plant is a money tree for we wishes prosperity and good health for the couple’s family.

Slicing the Wedding Cake

The groom will place his hand over the bride and in a way help her in slicing the first piece. The
couple will have to cut through the bottom layer to symbolize the continuity of their relationship. The
meaning of the groom having his hand over his bride means his support over his bride while the
bride allowing the groom’s hand on top of her means her ability to take care of her new husband and
her family.
Once the cake has been cut, the groom will feed his bride, and then the bride will go second. This
ritual symbolizes their commitment to provide for each other, and contains the meaning of good luck
and fortune. Some also believed that the bigger the piece of cake that is fed to each other, the
bigger their family would become.
