THE PAPER CINEMA

WHO WE ARE
The Paper Cinema was founded in 2004 by Nicholas Rawling, Imogen Charleston and Chris Reed. Starting from a kitchen table in Dorset, The Paper Cinema has been developing

and touring with a diverse array of productions for 15 years. Creating unique, live animation performances of vast scales including abstract shorts to full narrative renditions of

The Odyssey and Macbeth, our productions have been taken to over 15 countries, across 4 continents in collaboration with the Battersea Arts Centre and The British Council.

The Paper Cinema create an extraordinary live experience of narrative illustration and musical performance using inventive techniques to create a handmade set that that is the

meeting place for musical and visual language. Our expertise is in making everything before your eyes; live music for live visuals. Our work is often playful in the guise of revealing

the making process in this time of great remove from the point of making. We are a silent cinema and theatrical presentation.

WHO WE WANT TO WORK WITH

The Paper Cinema are looking for a freelance producer / company manager.

We want to build our company. After 15 years of developing and touring works on a project-by-project basis (from small-scale to mid-scale to International touring) we understand

our craft and our artistry. However, in order to grow and to become sustainable, The Paper Cinema has to move from purely self-producing (or working with external organisations

such as BAC) to have someone in-house.

We require a motivated and organized producer/company manager, a person who can help to maintain a steady work-flow of developing and performing and touring new work,

as well as a liaison for our existing partners.

We want someone who is interested in creating a stable working habitat for our creative team and that will look into strategic long term planning to enable The Paper Cinema to continue

creating extraordinary work for audiences in the UK and internationally.

We are looking for someone who can confidently and independently take on board the day-to-day management of the company. In particular, finding and managing funding applications and grants

by working with partners and funders. This will initially be the most urgent part of the role as we work towards funding and developing new projects that can be performed on a range of scales.

Starting with a small amount of Arts Council funding for organisational development, the post will entail working with the artistic director (Nicholas Rawling) to formulate a new business plan,

research funding strategies and creative partnerships.

In the long term we hope to develop a strong working relationship with a producer/company manager who is ambitious, has great initiative

and interest in promoting the arts while also being self driven to envision how their role might develop as we move forward.

We’re looking for someone with a progressive, positive outlook who can think creatively, flexibly and spontaneously about how we might do

things together. We’re excited about working closely with someone new, and we don’t want to be limited by current models and structures of working.
