WHO WE ARE
The Paper Cinema was founded in 2004 by Nicholas Rawling, Imogen Charleston and Chris Reed. Starting from a kitchen table in Dorset, The Paper Cinema has been developing
and touring with a diverse array of productions for 15 years. Creating unique, live animation performances of vast scales including abstract shorts to full narrative renditions of
The Odyssey and Macbeth, our productions have been taken to over 15 countries, across 4 continents in collaboration with the Battersea Arts Centre and The British Council.
The Paper Cinema create an extraordinary live experience of narrative illustration and musical performance using inventive techniques to create a handmade set that that is the
meeting place for musical and visual language. Our expertise is in making everything before your eyes; live music for live visuals. Our work is often playful in the guise of revealing
the making process in this time of great remove from the point of making. We are a silent cinema and theatrical presentation.
We want to build our company. After 15 years of developing and touring works on a project-by-project basis (from small-scale to mid-scale to International touring) we understand
our craft and our artistry. However, in order to grow and to become sustainable, The Paper Cinema has to move from purely self-producing (or working with external organisations
