Business Communication
1. You have been called for an interview next week, for a job as market research assistant. What
preparation would you make? Write your answers to these questions which may be asked at the
interview:

1. What makes you think you will be successful in market research job?

As a market researcher, you'll collect and analyse data and information to present to your clients. The
information you provide helps them to make informed political, social and economic decisions.

You may be employed directly by a company (known as client-side), where you'll collect information on
customer opinions, investment and marketing trends. The majority of market researchers, however, are
employed by marketing agencies that range in size, where work is carried out on numerous projects for
different companies and industries.

You'll specialise in either quantitative or qualitative research. Quantitative research involves working
with statistics and percentages and can deliver quick results.

Qualitative research involves analysing opinions and can provide the reasons behind certain
percentages. Qualitative research is a longer process, sometimes lasting years.

Responsibilities:
The exact type of work you'll carry out varies depending on your employer, whether you work client-
side or for an agency, the industry in which the client is based and the type of research you carry out.

In general though, your tasks will include:

 meeting and liaising with clients to negotiate and agree research projects
 preparing briefs and commissioning research
 formulating plans or proposals to present to your client or senior management
 writing and managing the distribution of surveys and questionnaires
 briefing interviewers and researchers
 liaising with and managing survey staff
 moderating focus groups
 undertaking ethnographic research (observing people in their homes and other environments)
 conducting qualitative or quantitative surveys, which may involve field, interview or focus group
assessments
 using statistical software to manage and organise information
 monitoring the progress of research projects
 analysing and interpreting data to identify patterns and solutions, including surveys and focus
group transcripts
 writing detailed reports and presenting results
 advising clients or senior management on how to best use research findings
 managing budgets.

2) What do you do to keep yourself physically fit?

A) STAY POSITIVE AND HAVE FUN

A good mental attitude is important. Find an activity that you think is fun. You are more likely to keep
with it if you choose something you like. A lot of people find it's more fun to exercise with someone else,
so see if you can find a friend or family member to be active with you.

B) TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME

Small changes can add up to better fitness. For example, walk or ride your bike to school or to a friend's
house instead of getting a ride. Get on or off the bus several blocks away and walk the rest of the way.
Use the stairs instead of taking the elevator or escalator.

C) GET YOUR HEART PUMPING

Whatever you choose, make sure it includes aerobic activity that makes you breathe harder and
increases your heart rate. This is the best type of exercise because it increases your fitness level and
makes your heart and lungs work better. It also burns off body fat. Examples of aerobic activities are
basketball, running, or swimming.

D) WARM UP
With some easy exercises or mild stretching before you do any physical activity. This warms your
muscles up and may help protect against injury. Stretching makes your muscles and joints more flexible
too. It is also important to stretch out after you exercise to cool down your muscles.
Write two questions which you would like to ask the interviewer.

Two questions to ask the Interviewer is:

1) Can you tell me more about the day-to-day responsibilities of this job?
2) What are your expectations for this role during the first 30 days, 60 days, year?

4. What questions would make you uncomfortable in an interview

 I would feel uncomfortable when there are personal questions asked

 Confidence to me is a state of mind and I am equipped to handle stress related questions.

7. What aspects do interviewers assess when they interview candidates?

1.Body Language
2. First Impressions
3. Ambition and Passion
4. Observe how the candidate behaves outside the interview room
5. Ask what changes the candidate would make if they ran the company

Corporate Communication. Page 4

9. Short notes on:

1. Appraisal Interview:

An appraisal interview is a formal discussion process between an employee and his/her manager. It is
one of the best ways for an employee to increase productivity and change work habits.

2. Exit interview:

An exit interview is a meeting with a terminating employee that is generally conducted by a human
resources staff member. The exit interview provides your organization with the opportunity to obtain
frank and honest feedback from the employee who is leaving your employment.

3. Stress interview:

A stress interview is used by an employer to put a candidate under intense pressure, to assess how a
candidate handles work overload, how they deal with multiple projects, and how good they are at
handling workplace conflict.

4. Candidate’s interview for employment interview:

Preparing for an interview primarily means taking time to thoughtfully consider your goals and
qualifications relative to the position and employer. To accomplish this, you should perform research on
the company and carefully review the job description to understand why you would be a good fit. Let’s
look at the steps to preparing for an interview.

1. Carefully examine the job description

2. Consider why you are interviewing and your qualifications
3. Perform research on the company and role
4. Consider your answers to common interview questions
5. Practice your speaking voice and body language

Paragraphs on Gaining Confidence for:

1. washing machines: to housewives ; retailers

A washing machine is a machine that washes dirty clothes. It contains a barrel into
which the clothes are placed. This barrel is filled with water, and then rotated very quickly
to make the water remove dirt from the clothes. ... These can help make the clothes
cleaner

To Housewives
"These innovations changed the lives of women," "Although it wasn't a revolution per
se, the arrival of this technology in households had an important impact on the
workforce and the economy."

 A washing machine is a huge time saver over hand washing

 A washing machine eliminates the effort needed to wash clothes
 Washing machines are available in a range of sizes

To Retailers
Within a short time-span, household technology became accessible to the
majority. In the late 1910s, a refrigerator sold for $1,600 and 26 years later such appliances
could be purchased for $170. Access to electric stoves, washing machines and vacuum
cleaners was also generalized

2. Current financial status of Indian Economy.

Introduction
Indian economy has seen a major growth in the last few decades. The credit for this boom largely
goes to the service sector. Agriculture and associated activities have also been improvised to match
the global standards and the export of various food products has seen an upward trend thereby
adding to the economic growth. The industrial sector does not lag behind a bit. A number of new
large scale as well as small scale industries have been set up in the recent times and these have also
proved to have a positive impact on the Indian economy.

According to the UN's World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2019, India's GDP growth is
expected to accelerate to 7.6 per cent in 2019-20 from an estimated 7.4 per cent in the current fiscal
ending March 2019. The growth rate may come down to 7.4 per cent a year later.

PRECISE.

1. Summary 1

Trees are useful to human beings in three important ways: they provide wood and other products; they
give shade; and they help to prevent drought and floods.

Unfortunately in many parts of the world people do not realize that the last point is the most important.
In their eagerness to make quick profit from the trees, they cut down a large number of trees and do not
realize that they are losing their best friends.

Two thousand years ago a rich and powerful country cut down trees to build warships and hoped to gain
itself an empire.
It going the empire but without trees, the soil became hard and poor. When the empire fell into pieces,
the country found itself face with village and starvation. Even when the government understands the
importance of having a large number of trees, it is the difficult to persuade the villages to see this. They
want wood for cooking their food, they can earn money by selling the wood to towns people. They are
often to lazy or too careless to plant and take care of new trees. Unless the government has a good
system of control, or can educate the people, forest will gradually disappear.

This means that people have fewer trees; but more seriously, it means that there will be floods and the
soil will eventually turn into desert. Where there are trees,

Their roots break up the soil and allow the rain water to sink in and bind the soil thus preventing it from
being washed away easily. If there are no trees, the rain, falls on hard ground and flows away on the
surface, carrying away with it the rich top-soil in which the crops grow. When the topsoil is gone,
nothing remains but useless desert.

Answer:

Today the destruction of forests has increased along with population growth. People do not know that
the trees are our life-givers. From trees, we get the life-giving air (oxygen). With trees and forests, we
meet many of our needs. At the same time, forests cause rains. But due to population explosion,
humans are indiscriminately harvesting forests for their needs. That is why the existence of forests today
is in danger. Consequently, human life is also in danger. Soil erosion increases the soil flows, due to
which the specific cycle of flood and drought is started. It also leads to loss of soil fertility, air pollution,
extinction of species, global warming, damage to ozone layer and many other harmful effects.

2.Summary 2

To be a good teacher you need some of the skills of a good actor you must be able to hold the attention
and interest of your audience; you must be a clear speaker with strong pleasant voice which can control
well. You must be able to act what you are teaching in order to convey its full meaning.

Watch a good teacher and you will see that she does not set motionless before the class. She stands
most of the time, she walks about, she uses her arms, hands and fingers to help in explanations, and her
face to express feelings. Listen carefully, and you will hear that quality, the tone and the rhythm of the
voice changing according to what she is speaking about.

That teacher need has some of the gifts of a good actor that does not follow that the teacher can
necessarily perform well on stage. There are some of important differences between the teacher's work
and the actor's work. The actor has to speak words which he has learnt by heart, repeat exactly the
same words every time he plays that part. Even his movements and actions and expressions are fixed.
What he has to do is to make this previously learnt words and actions appear natural on the stage.

A good teacher works quiet differently. Her audience has to take an active part in the play; they ask and
answer questions; if they do not understand something they ask for explanation. so, the teacher has to
suit her act to the needs of the audience which is the class. She cannot learn her part by heart; she has
to invent as she goes along.

Many teachers who do I find job in the classroom cannot act on the stage because their brains refuse to
be limited to the words and the path written by someone else and learnt by heart.
