CHAPTER 1

I. Introduction

The project described within this document is an Online Examination system

designed with the specific goal of reducing the hectic job of assessing the

answers given by the candidates manually. Responses by the candidates will be

checked automatically and instantly. Being an integrated Online Examination

System, it will reduce paper work. The result will be shown immediately to the

participating students reducing the anxiety. It can generate various reports and

graphs for evaluation purpose almost instantly when and where required. It will

also send mail notifications to the students about the detailed description of test,

their results and other information through Small Message Transfer Protocol.

The system is designed for Educational Institutes like Schools, Colleges, and

Private Institutes to conduct logic tests of their students on a regular basis.

Design to facilitate administrator and user friendly, interface complete and secure

information is provided to user scope.

II. Background of the system

It is traditionally that every student takes an exam in a classroom, because they

are happy to sit there and have the teacher or the proctor during the exam. In

Online Examination System, we the researcher are trying to change the

traditional manual examination in an educational institution for example in

Computer Technologies Institute Inc. it may help said institution to nurture and

elevate the functionally of the school. This Online Examination System is to

efficiently evaluate the examiner thoroughly through a fully automated system

that not only saves lot of time but also give fast results. It is targeted at removing

all the paper works in the examination process usually spent by the teacher or

instructor in reading and checking the answer one after the other.

III. Statement of the problem

The challenges faced with International Training Certifications is that the

organizations that issues this certificate adopt a medium whereby its various

Training Centers spread across the globe, subjects their trainees to a centralized

online examinations platform; in which the performances of the trainees in these

centers can be tracked and monitored. For that reason, the Training Centers are

mandated to provide internet access to the students which lead to huge budget

for data subscriptions. It has been observed that these Regulatory Bodies, do

carry routine maintenance on their online examination platform which may

sometimes lead to up twelve (12) hours downtime; prompting the Training

centers to reschedule their examinations to a later date leading to the

discouragement of students who have extensively prepared for the exam. Also,

most of 3 these Online Training Exams contain recycled questions that have

been made available in various websites.

IV. Scope and limitations

Scope

 The system handles all the operations and generates reports as soon as

the test is finish, that includes name, mark, time spent to solve the exam.

 Allow students to see or display his answers after the exam is finish.

 The type of questions is only multiple choice or true and false.

 Can be used anywhere any time as it is a web base application.

 No restriction that examiner has to be present when the candidate takes

the test.

Limitation

 In the case of any type of problem in student verification no functionality is

defined in the system to correct it or inter-communication among users are

also not available.

 The Fees is taken manually as there is not any module for online

payment.

 The system supports only multiple, choice questions.

V. Objective of the study

 Online examination will diminish the rushed occupation of evaluating the

answers given by the applicants physically.

 Being a coordinated Online examination framework, it will decrease paper

work.

 To permit workforce to give extra time to understudies with handicaps.

 To permit workforce to make tests and answer key.

 To permit programmed reviewing and manual evaluating which can be

recorded per test.

VI. Significance of the study

The Online Examination System is benefit for any educational institutions who

will implement this system for example the computer. Technologies Institute Inc. it

can help the said institution to evaluate the students their knowledge and skills

before they precede to a certain course they want.

VII. Programming Language

Programming languages usually contain abstractions for defining data

structures or controlling the flow of execution. The practical necessity that a

programming language, support adequate abstractions is expressed by the

abstraction principle; this principle is sometimes formulated as a

recommendation to the programmer to make proper use of such abstractions.

 HTML – is the standard markup language for creating web pages and web

applications.

 Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript -, it forms a triad of

cornerstone technologies for the World Wide Web.

 PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor (or simply PHP) is a server-side scripting

language designed for Web development, but also used as a general-

purpose programming language. It was originally created by Rasmus

Lerdorf in 1994, the PHP reference implementation is now produced by

The PHP Group.

  MySQL - is an open-source relational database management system.

VIII. Project Resources

People refer to us the programmer, project manager, researcher an editor

that completed the system and gives detailed documentation to the proposed

system name “E-learning Online Examination with SMS Notification System”

Equipment is the hardware device that we used in creating our system

and it is our laptop product name ACER model Aspire E 14 with the specification

of 35.6cm (14”). 4 GB DDR4 SDRAM (1.60 GHz) 1000 GB HDD and Core intel

Quad-core i3-7100U.

Facilities that we used are the school grounds were, we compiled our

research materials, computer café where we conduct our research for our system

and our respective home to do the system itself.
