For my 20 time I researched crime around my neighborhood and what can be

done to make neighborhoods better. So the researched was mostly based on what I
could find about crime and how to make gangs leave your area to make safe for kids.I
noticed that a lot of people do not like to let their kids out to playgrounds because of the
crime that happen around the area and are mainly scared to lose their kids.The ones
doing the crimes are mainly gangs and other gangs fighting for territory and trying to
make money to have a living which drives them to make crime.The cops don't really do
much so that is when the neighborhood watch steps in to take crime away. There had
been several people trying to better their community, so what I learned from this is it can
all start by assembling a meeting with the people around you.

There has been crime that happen around my area which there was a fatality
when two people were fighting, a male was stabbed and killed. The news says that it
was a gang fight that was triggered by a family rivals that came behind while they were
fighting and stabbed him. This made the cops be more strict to the area which made the
gangs move or were all caught and put to jail to a point where the neighborhood was
way better than it used to be. Most of the time it was the neighborhood that made a
complaint to the cops that they needed to do something to help because there is little
kids going to school and coming home alone and anything can happen to them if the
crime rate is very high.

There is a lot of information that can help people safety there

neighborhoods like locking doors. National prevention council says that there is
programs that help people fight crime and defend themselves from being robbed or
harmed in anyway. Also to set boundaries for your child to tell him where she or he can
go and how far from home they can go. Making examples to the criminals around you to
understand that they want to help their kids not to do drugs or join gangs.

Nancy a neighborhood watch leader says that if you join a neighborhood watch
can be a big help stop the crimes from happening because then you will be able to
show the criminals that you want change to happen and want a better area for children.
”Ask for block captain volunteers who are responsible for relaying information to the
members” to help the police catch the crime you can all team up to help put them all in
jail .This shows how people do want change to happen and do want to make their lives
easier by not having to look over their shoulders every time they leave home.

The second side of the topic is how the parents and families in the neighborhood
wanted to take action into stopping the crime or at least minimizing it. According to the
Chicago Police website it states “In order to stay informed about emerging crime and
disorder issues, you should try to attend your beat meeting on a regular basis. Beat
meetings are held by the Police Department on a regular basis, often once a month, in
each of the City’s 281 beats.” These meetings that adults can attend to can allow them
to be more experienced and be enlightened on how to make their neighborhoods safer
for the children.

According to the website Chicago Now, “My first pass at providing a crude
indicator of "safe" or "dangerous" neighborhoods is to look at the number of murders per
100,000 residents in each of Chicago's 77 officially defined community areas and then
rank them from low to high.” This shows that to label neighborhoods from which one is
safe and which one is dangerous is by determining which one has the least amount of
murders and which one has the most. This tells me that the Chicago neighborhoods are
dangerous considering that it is being determined by the amount of murders to identify
which neighborhoods are safer than others in Chicago.
The chicago police website stated that “you can not go off by yourself and trying
to stop the crime because that can put yourself in harm due to not having backup from
someone.” This shows that even though you want to help and the police think is fine to
help but you can not put yourself in harm because then that will be another crime that
the police will have to investigate not just moving on and keep trying to better the
community.This tells me as a researcher that the community has to be wanting to help
not just a few people it has to be like half the neighborhood to help because there needs
to be support and people who want to volunteer to help for the kids.

In conclusion it can be very helpful to better the community but also you can put
yourself in harm to where the crime can get bigger because the criminals or gangs can
turn on you and can try to harm you.Even though it can be dangerous you should still try
to better your community because it can be helpful for you and your family but also you
should research what you need because it can be very helpful and you as a person can
be prepared on what to do for your community.
