Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Teaching Short Story

(Who’s was the Rajah’s Son?)


I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students are able to:
1. Solve jumbled pieces of puzzle to form pictures of the presidents/heroes.
2. Unlock unfamiliar words through context clues.
3. Note details through reading the selection
4. Describe the characters in the story
5. Create a short drama presentation that shows being a good leader.
6. Share insights about the importance of the being a good leader
7. Infer that a leader should be: responsible, disciplined, and understanding
8. Realize the importance of choosing a leader.

II. Subject Matter


Lesson: “Who was the Rajah’s Son?” By Loreto Paras Sulit
Reference: Communication Arts and Skills through Afro-Asian Literature
Materials: Powerpoint presentation, DLP, Speaker, pictures, chalk board

III. Procedure:

 The teacher will group the students into four, each group will be given
puzzle pieces to be solved, right after they’ve solved the puzzles they’ll
present it in front and give at least 3 characteristic of that person in the
picture.

 Lesson Proper
 The teacher will present the story through a power point presentation
with pictures.
 After the discussion and presentation, the teacher will ask the following
questions to the students:

1. Who were the characters in the story?
2. Where did the story take place?
3. How can you describe Baybay?
4. Who was their ruler?
5. What happened to the barangay?
6. Who were captured by the pirates?
7. Why do you think Alon was captured by the pirates?
8. What happened to Rajah Bayani when his son was captured?
9. Do you think Rajah Bayani take any effort to look for his lost son?
10. If you were the Rajah of the barangay, what will you do to save your belongings,
dwellings, and even your people?
11. Would you also give up your responsibility as the rajah of your barangay if that
happens to you?
12. Why is it they cannot forget their young rajah even though he was gone for years?
13. What did the people of barangay do to cope up with the destruction?
14. How many years since the boys were captured?
15. What did the barangay traders do in order to get news about the lost rajah?
16. If you were one of the warriors, would you also look for your lost young rajah?

17. What did the women of the barangay pray to Bathala?

IV. Application
The students will be grouped into four and perform a role play that shows
leadership among different situations:

Group 2: school
Group 3: community
Group 4: friends

V. Evaluation
LAST MAN STANDING
 The teacher will ask questions and the answer of the students will be
written in a one whole sheet of paper and all of the students will be
involved. The moment they commit wrong answer they will sit down and
the last student who is standing will be declared as the winner.

VI. Assignment
ESSAY:

1. What are the qualities of a good leader, and how can you become a good
leader?
2. What should the people demonstrate to come up with a good leader?
