The Answers and Explanation

To score your test please look back through your answers and input them (e.g. A, B, C, or D) in the table below

Q.
Answer Answer (note: all calculations are rounded to 2 d.p. and final answers to the nearest whole number)

1. D 1656 students • First calculate the number of students in each school using the
information in the Pie Chart e.g. 4838 × 0.34 = 1644.92 students
• Then calculate how many scored A-C in English in each school i.e.
o Bridemouth School: 1644.92 × 0.52 = 855.36
o Devonside High: 2080.34 × 0.24 = 499.28
o Castleshop Secondary: 483.8 × 0.18 = 87.08
o Belmount School: 628.94 × 0.34 = 213.84
• Finally add all the number of student who scored A-C in English together
i.e. 855.36 + 499.28 + 87.08+ 213.84 = 1656 students
2. A 56% • First calculate the number of students in Bridemouth School
i.e.: 4838 × 0.34 = 1645 students
• Then calculate the number of students at Bridemouth School who scored
grade A-C in science this year i.e. 1645 × 0.29 = 477
• Finally, calculate the percentage increase
i.e.: ((477 – 305) ÷ 305) × 100 = 56%
3. B 8 students • First calculate the number of students at Castleshop secondary
i.e. 4838 × 0.10 = 484 students
• Then calculate the number of students studying maths at Castleshop
Secondary i.e. 484 × 0.52 = 252 students
• Finally, calculate 3% of students from 252
i.e. 252 × 0.03 = 8 students
