Annual award ceremony – „European Golden Pawn“ – will be held every year andis
being established with the initiative of the European Chess Union.
Why anaward
ceremony?
From the history:
• The European Chess Union unites chess
federations of 54countries.
• the history of this union spans 34 years, but
European chess took its start in middle ages and
was best demonstrated in 19th and 20th centuries.
• European chess was the reason of establishing the
World Chess Federation in 1924 in Paris.
• Europe has given the chess world numerous
strongest players – both men andwomen.
• Chess was one of the most privileged andpopular
varieties.

ceremony?
Nowadays:
• chess requires more popularity, because in the
digital age, it has been somewhatovershadowed.
• The popularity and right representation is also
needed for people who have created an Era in
European Chess and for people who are bestof
the best not only as chess players, but as
organizers, arbiters and trainers.
• Different projects dedicated to chessrequire
celebration.

decided to establish the„European Golden Pawn“,

Ceremony
The European Chess Union greatly desires
for the award ceremony to be held in
Monte-Carlo, in order to continue grand
chess traditions and make this event as high
scale and prestigous.
Guests
The award ceremony will be
accompanied by live musical
performance and video-clips.

Preparation Period

• Special promo-video
announcing the European
Chess Union award
ceremony to the chess
world will be preparedone
month prior the event.

• The video will bepublished


on the official website and
social network of the
European Chess Union and
will also be sent to the 54
chess federations of
Europe.
Future of the „European Golden Pawn“
• In the future, all 54 of Europe’s chess federations will be
participating in the preparations for the award ceremony.
• Taking the proper nominations into account, they will presenttheir
candidates to the European Chess Union, on the basis of which,the
Board of the European Chess Union will publish a short list, andthe
winners will be revealed on the day of the award ceremony by
special judges.
• Furthermore, chess federation of each country will have the
opportunity to present a chess poster (or postage chess stamp) for
competition. The best poster (or postage chess stamp) will be
revealed through the European Chess Union website by votes from
chess lovers.
