Narrative Report
“Use of a range of teaching strategies that enhance learner’s
achievement in literacy and numeracy skills.”

In August 2017, Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones signed the

Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) into policy through DepEd Order No.
42, S. 2017. The policy states, among others, that the PPST “shall be used as a basis for all
learning and development programs for teachers.”

As a teacher, understanding the PPST is crucial for us to grow and flourish in our
profession. The PPST identifies what we are expected to know, be able to do, and value in your
profession.

Thus, Acereda Integrated School in support of the Policy under DepEd Order No. 42,
S. 2017 conducts its 10th Learning Action Cell under module 2 titled “USE A RANGE OF
TEACHING STRATEGIES THAT ENHANCE LEARNER ACHIEVEMENT IN
LITERACY AND NUMERACY SKILLS.” It was attended by all the teachers both in the
Elementary and High School Department and in the presence and guidance of our Principal.

The session started with a short prayer to seek guidance from our creator. Followed by
the singing of our National Anthem. Our principal instructed all the participants to reserve
their questions after the presentation so as not to interrupt the discussion. The presentation of
the facilitator lasted for almost forty-five minutes.

After the presentation and discussion, the eagerness of the teacher- participants to learn
and master the module was evidently seen. Various questions were asked and were answered
by the facilitator with the help of her Principal.

One of the highlights of the discussion is about the integration of literacy and numeracy
in all subject areas. Developing literacy and numeracy skills does not only supports learning
but also enhances understanding within the curriculum area and is a key way of raising
standards and outcomes in all subjects.”
As teachers of literacy and numeracy across the curriculum, we should provide our
learners a range of different contexts in which they can use these skills. We all have the
responsibility to promote these skills in our classroom. In all levels and curriculum areas, we
should explore the possibilities of extending and complementing numeracy and literacy. We
should give our children quality instruction so that they can have the best chances to succeed
in life.

The LAC Session number ten titled “Use of a range of teaching strategies that enhance
learner’s achievement in literacy and numeracy skills” was 100 percent completed.
