Virtual environments
2

Running a production SCP solution in a virtual environment is supported by Infor. It is expected that
you run the guest virtual machines and components using the supported Operating Systems defined
for the specific release of the SCP solution. The SCP solution will function in a virtual environment as
if running on physical native hardware. If Infor Support is unable to reproduce an issue on physical
hardware and it is determined to be an issue with the virtualization environment, not the product itself,
you must contact your virtualization support provider to resolve the issue.

Virtualization sizing
With the support of virtual environments for the Infor SCP solutions it is the responsibility of the customer
to work directly with the virtualization provider to ensure that the sizing of the host server hardware,
versions of virtual servers, configuration, setup and raw device mappings are correct. Hardware sizing
for virtualization environments is not provided by Infor due to the number of variables that can be
introduced into such an environment. The customer must work closely with a virtualization provider to
ensure the correct hardware sizes and configurations are selected that match the customer requirements.
Note that most of the planning apps are CPU and memory intensive. Based on experiences from other
customers Infor recommends allocating dedicated processor, memory and disk resources to all SCP
VM environments.

Notes on certification of virtualization platforms

Infor certifies hardware and software platforms, not virtual platforms. It is the duty of the virtualization
provider to certify that their software accurately mimics the hardware of an Infor supported platform.

Citrix environments
3

Running a production SCP solution in a Citrix environment is supported by Infor. It is expected that the
components, which are accessed through Citrix, are run on the supported Operating Systems defined
for the specific release of the SCP solution. If Infor Support is unable to reproduce an issue in a non-Citrix
environment and it is determined to be an issue with the Citrix environment, rather than the product
itself, you must contact your Citrix support provider to resolve the issue.

Citrix configuration
With the support of Citrix environments for the Infor SCP solutions it is the responsibility of the customer
to work directly with their Citrix provider to ensure that the configuration, setup and raw device mappings
are correct.
Note that some planning apps are graphically intensive. Based on experiences from other customers
Infor recommends allocating bandwidth that provides a satisfactory user experience for the end user.

Notes on certification of Citrix

Infor certifies hardware and software platforms, not Citrix. It is the duty of Citrix to certify that their
software accurately mimics the behavior of an Infor supported platform.

• Supported Windows platforms are Windows 2008/2012 Server Edition.

RDBMS
• Oracle Database Release 11g Release 2 Express (XE), Standard and Enterprise Edition.
• Oracle Database Release 12c Standard and Enterprise Edition.

Notes for use with Oracle Express Edition (XE):

Customers with small databases (Database Size A or B on the previous table) can consider to use
Oracle Express Edition as shipped with Infor Demand Planning. If selecting this database:
• Oracle Express Edition should not be used if the client wishes to use the SOP Reporting module.
• Support for Oracle Express Edition should be purchased separately to the Infor application.
• Support issues relating to the RDBMS should be lodged with Oracle support. Infor support does not
maintain a support testing environment with Oracle Express Edition.
• Oracle Express Edition has limitations in many areas not limited to but including memory, disk space,
and number of server instances.

Client processing
Demand Planning facilitates these options for carrying out the client processing:
• A conventional Client-Server architecture can be used where the application is installed on local
desktops.
• A middle-tier application server can be used where users can connect through remote desktop
technologies.
The actual requirements depend on many parameters such as bulk of data being processed and the
task being carried out.
We do not recommend that you use the database server as a substitute for the application server.

Collaborative Demand Planning (CDP)
5

For an efficiently performing Infor Collaborative Demand Planning release 5.2, you must procure the
correct system and hardware that suits your business needs. Consider hardware sizing by Infor. Incorrect
values can negatively impact performance. The system requirements provided here are designed to
provide a comfortable performance level.

Web application servers

Actual server requirements depend on the type of web traffic a site is expected to generate. Use of
multiple applications on a single server will require additional cores and memory. Certain large-scale
implementations will require dedicated servers per application.
This table lists the supported minimum recommended requirements for a web application.

Web client for CDP

Infor Web clients require nothing more than a web browser. Infor Help systems also use a web browser.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher is supported.
Consider hardware that is capable of expanding in RAM. All hardware, including virtual, must be certified
on the Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 (R2) and Windows 7 compatibility list.

Network considerations
100 mbps Network Interface Cards (NIC) are recommended for the application and database servers.
These servers are typically switched directly to the network backbone. At least 10 mbps to the desktop
is required, 100 mbps or higher is preferred. Exact bandwidth requirements for remote locations are
dependent on many factors such as number of users, type of users, transaction volumes and other
activity occurring over the network. For upload of planning schedules or transfers of files such as
Interface planning information, faster networks are required and at least a 384 kbps line is expected.

Advanced Planning (AP)
6

For an efficiently performing Infor Advanced Planning 11.0, you must procure the correct system and
hardware that suits your business needs. Consider hardware sizing by Infor. Incorrect values can
negatively impact performance. The system recommendations provided here are designed to provide
a comfortable performance level.

Architecture
Advanced Planning is an application which is used to optimize supply chain models. It contains a
modeling environment in which the user can build a model of his supply chain. Based on this model
the user can write different optimization scenarios or solver macros which are solved by the Solver
Engine of Advanced Planning.

Advanced Planning
The application is highly interactive, data and computing intensive. For these reasons Advanced
Planning is a workstation application. Usually there are one or two users in the organization or plant
who are using Advanced Planning to plan the supply chain and use its computing capabilities to optimize
the supply chain.
The data of Advanced Planning resides in the Supply Chain Vault. The various plans calculated by
Advanced Planning are stored in this database. These plans can be communicated and shared with
the rest of the organization, for example using Infor Sales and Operations Planning (licensed separately)
or the standard reporting infrastructure that typically already exists in your environment.

Model Sizing
Advanced Planning is a workstation application. The workstation configuration depends on the size
and complexity of the planning model.

Supply Chain Planning Products Hardware and Software Recommendations Guide | 25

Advanced Planning (AP)

The model size for Advanced Planning depends upon both scale and complexity. To determine the
size of a specific model we recommend to discuss with an Infor consultant, the answers to the questions
about the model scale and model complexity.

Model scale
What is the Advanced Planning model scope? What type of planning problem is to be resolved? MRP,
MPS, DRP, etc.
How many resources? A resource could be a product, location, BOM, BOM line item, warehouse,
transportation lane, etc.
How many resource combinations? Examples of resource combination are product / warehouse
combination; product / factory / line combination; product/ transportation lane combination.
How many planning time buckets? Days, Weeks, Months.
A site running one factory with 50 products, 200 materials, 12 months, 5 lines, 1 BOM per FG would
be considered a small to standard model.
Add to this 40 warehouse, with 200 transportation lanes with 3 transportation modes and 10000 product
transportation lane combinations and now you have a large model.

Model complexity
How many unknowns in the problem does the solver must determine values for?
Is the problem continuous or discontinuous (discrete)? This has a huge bearing on the solve times.
If the problem is discrete then how many discrete variables (unknown values) are expected? For
example: Number of shifts, Number of Trucks, etc.
What is the nature of the discrete unknowns? For example: Overtime OFF/ON value (Boolean), Minimum
Order Quantity (Threshold), Number of Shifts (Multiple)
Is the problem one large monolith, or can it be broken up naturally into independent sub problems?

System requirements
This table shows the system requirements for Windows 64-bit:

Advanced Scheduling (AS)
7

For an efficiently performing Infor Advanced Scheduling 11.0, you must procure the correct system
and hardware that suits your business needs. Consider hardware sizing by Infor. Incorrect values can
negatively impact performance. The system recommendations provided here are designed to provide
a comfortable performance level.

Architecture
Advanced Scheduling is an application which is used to schedule the plant operations. It is a highly
graphical application, using Gantt charts as its main graphical user interface. The application is used
to build the plant process model and the various constraints that exist in the plant, such as routings,
tanks, utilities or labor.
The application is operated by one or more schedulers. The application will use Advanced Scheduling
to create a schedule and use the scheduling heuristics and solver technology to optimize the schedule.
The constraints, changeovers, set up times and timing of production batches are taken into account.
The data used by Advanced Scheduling resides in the AS Database. The resulting schedules can be
published to the web using the Web Viewer component.

Components
Advanced Scheduling consists of these components:
• Advanced Scheduling Application Server: this is the server component.
• Advanced Scheduling Client: this the client application and main user interface.
• Advanced Scheduling Database: this is the data storage component, which is deployed on an SQL
server.
• Web Viewer for Advanced Scheduling: this is the optional component used to publish schedules in
a web browser.

on the Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 compatibility
list, depending on which OS is installed.

AS Web Viewer
The schedule created by Advanced Scheduling is communicated to the organization using Web Viewer
for Advanced Scheduling. Over the company’s intranet other users can evaluate the schedule and
communicate any comments back to the scheduler.
Web Viewer is an internet enabled view of the production schedules including the Gantt Charts, resource
utilization and inventory graphs. Anyone with a stake in production schedules such as customer service,
sales, marketing, etc. can easily access information relevant to their job function. This information is
displayed through personalized views (or “portals”) of subsets of data targeted at specific production
operations. This ensures that the right people see pertinent information to make the right decisions.
The Web Viewer for Advanced Scheduling software is an optional module.
When Web Viewer for Advanced Scheduling must be accessed from the Internet, the Web Server
component must be hosted on a server outside of the firewall. The Web Server will be able to redirect
any http request from the internet through the Application Server of Web Viewer for Advanced
Scheduling, protecting any valuable information.

Infrastructure
Web Viewer for Advanced Scheduling is an optional component hosted on the AS application server.
The Web Viewer for Advanced Scheduling Application reads the schedule published in the AS database
by Advanced Scheduling.

End user
The system requirements for end user hardware are equivalent to the system requirements for the
Microsoft Windows Operating System.
Web Viewer for Advanced Scheduling supports Internet Explorer version 10.0 or later.

Planning and Order Promising (PLN)
8

For an efficiently performing Infor Planning and Order Promising 2.6, you must procure the correct
system and hardware that suits your business needs. Consider hardware sizing by Infor. Incorrect
values can negatively impact performance. The system requirements provided here are designed to
provide a comfortable performance level.

Architecture
As an operational planning system, Planning provides the capability to model the simplest and the
most complex multi-site supply chain environments. It uses a memory-resident data structure to store
objects representing plants, warehouses, distribution centers, business partners, demand, supplies
and processes.
At the heart of the system are the Requirements Engine, the Planning Engine, and the Dynamic Planning
Engines. The Requirements Engine balances supply and demand across the supply chain, and pulls
supply toward customer demand points. The Planning Engine generates an optimized constraint-based
production plan. The Dynamic Planning Engines are performing specific functions such as
constraint-based order insertion to support availability calculations or further optimizations to the plan
around certain business objectives.

Components
Planning and Order Promising each consist of a server component and a client component. The Planning
servers use an IN-RAM database (for fast response). The RAM used by the Planning databases is
directly related to the data in the database.
The memory used by the Planning database is therefore dependent on these factors:
• Number of companies in the Planning database
• Number of scenarios in the database
• Business planning processes / usage of scenarios & system
• Total number of items

Supply Chain Planning Products Hardware and Software Recommendations Guide | 35

Planning and Order Promising (PLN)

• Planning horizon
• Order grouping horizon
• Complexity of routings and bill of materials
• Min and max order quantity
• Number of released orders

System requirements
These are the standard recommended specifications; the actual recommendations depend on the
scope of the project and number of users.

64-bit Server
Ensure that there are plenty of memory expansion possibilities on the main board.
This table shows the hardware and software recommendations for a 64-bit server:

Item Specification
Processor Dual Core x86-64 (Intel or AMD). More CPU-cores can be required for
example if many users log on to the system and run engines in scenarios.

Infor Integrated Business Planning (IBP)
12

Infor Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is the name for the suite of Supply Chain Planning solutions
that can operate on a common technology that is Infor compliant. Infor IBP provides a common planning
experience across the entire Supply Chain Planning portfolio of solutions. One technology stack, one
data repository, one common look & feel.
The Integrated Business Planning base (IBP-BASE) is a mandatory component of IBP. It provides the
framework such as the database, process & configuration, integration layer and OLAP structures.
This framework is used by these products:
• Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP)
• Demand+
• Supply+
Each of these products can have additional requirements on top of the requirements listed here.
For an efficiently performing Integrated Business Planning release 11.0, you must procure the correct
system and hardware that suits your business needs. Consider hardware sizing by Infor. Incorrect
values can negatively impact performance.
The system recommendations provided in this document are designed to provide a comfortable
performance level. For specific information about system requirements, see these documents:
• Infor ION BI Hardware Recommendations Guide.
• Infor ION 11.0 Installation Guide.
• Infor Ming.le Installation and Configuration Guide, Version 11.0 for Active Directory Federation
Services
• Infor Ming.le Installation and Configuration Guide, Version 11.0 for Active Directory.

Hardware sizing
To determine hardware sizing for Integrated Business Planning, review these processes:
• Database server load
• OLAP server load

Supply Chain Planning Products Hardware and Software Recommendations Guide | 49

Infor Integrated Business Planning (IBP)

• Web server load

Database Server
The database server for Integrated Business Planning contains these databases:
• The Infor IBP database. This database is holding all data used by IBP and is heavily involved in the
scenario data processing.
• The Infor ION BI Report Repository database stores settings, user-dependent variables, reports
and all of the objects that belong to the reports. Infor ION BI App Studio WebServices loads the
report definition and all of the objects that belong to the report from this repository. The reports are
then provided to the user through Infor IBP.

OLAP Server
The OLAP server stores the values and dimensions from Infor IBP in so-called cubes. The server also
calculates aggregations, which are the calculated members and the data slices. These aggregations
are requested by the App Studio reports.
The OLAP server is a pure "in-memory" database. Therefore at run-time, all of the required data is
kept permanently in the memory. This contributes to the OLAP server's excellent performance.
The number and size of the loaded cubes affect the size or the memory consumption of the data model.
The size of a cube depends on the number and size of the dimensions, that is, the number of elements
in a dimension and the values stored in the cube, such as purchase orders and is heavily influenced
by the number of time periods (buckets), locations, items, measures, scenarios that will be stored in a
scenario.
The OLAP server calculates the requested data for each user when required. Multiple users can use
the OLAP server simultaneously. Therefore if you add more processor cores, the performance of the
OLAP server improves for multiple users.

Web Server
To calculate each user's required reports, Infor ION BI App Studio WebServices runs an instance of
the report-rendering engine when required. To ensure that the user can view only the reports and data
to which they are authorized, the engine uses the user's security requirements. When an Infor IBP user
requests a new report, App Studio WebServices performs these tasks:
• Requests the report definition from the Infor ION BI Report Repository
• Requests the required data from the OLAP server
• Calculates the report
• Stores the report as DHTML on the hard disk where the web server provides the report to Infor IBP

50 | Supply Chain Planning Products Hardware and Software Recommendations Guide

Infor Integrated Business Planning (IBP)

The memory size of the rendering depends on the type of report and the size of the data model in the
OLAP server. To calculate the reports, the values and metadata must be transferred from the OLAP
server to the report engine.
Infor ION BI App Studio WebServices uses only one processor core and isolates the calculation of a
user's report from that of other user’s reports. Therefore the performance of Infor ION BI App Studio
WebServices increases linearly with the amount of available processor cores. The memory and the
number of processor cores primarily affect the performance of Infor ION BI App Studio WebServices.
The number of users and the size of the data model primarily affect hardware requirements.
This table shows a summary of the factors that affect Infor IBP hardware sizing:
