Action Research Design ( Discriptive )

Effectiveness of Differentiated Instruction In Teaching T.L.E for

Grade NINE students

Chapter 1
Introduction:
Like other subject TLE is a difficult but an important subject because the curriculum
consider as a tool subject needed to understand the different content subjects. It is
concerned with developing competencies in listening, speaking, reading, writing,
and performing. Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) is one of the
nomenclature in the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program
composed of four components; Agri-Fishery, Arts, Home Economics, Industrial arts
and Information and communication Technology. The K to 12 Curriculum aims to
help learners understand that TLE subject involved in the dynamic social process
which responds and reflects changing social conditions. The curriculum aims that
students are given an opportunity to build upon their prior knowledge while utilizing
their own skills, interests, styles, and talents.

Statement of the Problem:

The teachers find difficulties in teaching different kinds of pupils with different
intellectual capacities, talent or skills, interest, and learning styles especially in
heterogeneous groupings of students. This situation calls for teachers used/apply the
Differentiated instruction to the students based upon their readiness, interests, and
background knowledge. Differentiated instruction is based on the concept that the
teacher is a facilitator of information, while students take the primary role of
expanding their knowledge by making sense of their ability to learn differently.
(drawing, dramatization, memorization,singing and dancing.)

This study determined the effectiveness of conducting DI to Grade nine TLE class.
Specifically, it answered the following.

1. What is the performance of two groups respondents in the pretest?

1. Fast Learner

2. Slow learner

2. What is the performance of two groups respondents in the post test?

1. Fast Learner
2. Slow learner

3. Is there a significant difference between the post test and pretest scores of the
students?

4. Is there a significant difference between the post test scores and pretest scores of
the students?

5. Is there a significant difference between the pretest and post test scores of the
students?

Significance of Study :
In this study, the focus is Home Economics. In this course, varied and relevant
activities and opportunities are provided to demonstrate understanding of concepts
and core competencies as prescribed provides quality education and services. Today
in the world of work, the number of available jobs is scarce and the Department of
Education is revitalizing its resources to lead the young minds and to prepare them
skillfully so that they can used in their everyday living. It is in honing the skills that
learners can assure to have an edge of surviving the daily needs of oneself and of
others. It seeks to provide the learners with the knowledge, attitude, values and
skills.

Chapter II
Methodology :
This action research utilized the experimental design since its main purpose was to
determine the effectiveness of Differentiated instruction and its possible effect to
the mean gain scores on achievement of students on two weeks lesson in Grade 9
TLE. Two groups were taught the same lessons for two weeks. The past learner
group was taught using the single teaching with similar activities approach while the
least group was taught using Differentiated instruction with two sets of activities and
two sets of evaluation and facilitation for the two groups of students for two-weeks
duration. Three regular sections were included in the study out of the three Grade 9
sections that the school have.

A. Locale of Study :
The study was held at Adela S. Torres National High School. Barangay Bayongon
Sampaloc Quezon.
The population sample of students are thirty five students each section. The material
instrument is module and test paper. The researcher adminester the post test and pre
test.
B. Data Gathering Procedure
After seeking the approval from the principal, the teacher-researcher started the
experiment for a week. The scores of both the pretest and the post test were taken
and these data were coded, tallied, and were statistically treated using the mean,
standard deviation. The mean and the standard deviation were used to determine
the level of performance of the groups and the classification of pupils, while the test
was employed to determine the significant difference of the mean scores on pretest
and post test of both groups.
