Since October 2017,

Windows 10 has been
freezing a lot more than
usual. (That’s when
Microsoft released the Fall
Creators Update.)
Unfortunately, these
freezes occur almost
randomly and without
much useful feedback. This
is not only frustrating, but
also makes it a lot harder
to troubleshoot. But the
good news is, it can be
fixed…

Try these
fixes
Here are a few fixes that
have helped other users
resolve their ‘Windows 10 ↑

Update your
drivers
The Windows 10 freezing
problem can be caused by
outdated drivers. So to fix
the problem,  you can try
to update the drivers. If
you don’t have the time,
patience or computer skills
to update the drivers
manually, you can do it
automatically with Driver
Easy.

Driver Easy will

automatically recognize
your system and find the
correct drivers for it. You
don’t need to know exactly
what system your
computer is running, you
don’t need to risk
downloading and installing
the wrong driver, and you
don’t need to worry about
making a mistake when
installing.

either the FREE or the Pro

version of Driver Easy. But
with the Pro version it
takes just 2 clicks (and you
get full support and a 30-

1) Download and install
Driver Easy.

2) Run Driver Easy and

click Scan Now. Driver
Easy will then scan your
computer and detect any
problem drivers.

3) Click the Update button

the correct version of their

computer still freezes
randomly after updating
the drivers. If the problem
persists, you know your
drivers weren’t to blame,
and you should try the
next fix.

Clear your
computer’s
temp files
If Windows doesn’t have
enough space to store
temp files, it can slow
down or even freeze. So
you should clear them
regularly.

1) On your keyboard, press

Windows key and R at the
same time, then in the Run
form, type temp and hit
Enter. This will invoke
Windows Explorer with
your Temp folder

temp files on your computer.

Adjust your
virtual
memory
Virtual memory is basically
an extension of your
computer’s physical

combination of RAM and a
portion of your hard drive.
If your computer runs out

an intensive task, Windows
will dip into virtual
memory for temporary file
storage.

1) On your keyboard, press

Windows key and Pause/
Break key at the same
time. Then
choose Advanced System
Settings on the left panel.

If you use an SSD and you run into this problem just change this:

1. Open your advanced power plan settings.

2. Expand open Hard disk and Turn off hard disk after, SET TO
NEVER, and click/tap on OK.

NOTE: Windows 10 should never turn off an ssd by default, but

somehow it was doing that to me. After changing to Never, it
never happened to me. Maybe a bug in latest update!!

None of these methods solved the problem for me. I already tried
setting "Turn off hard disk after" to "Never", unfortunately nothing
changed. I'm using Windows 10 Education 1703 (OS Build
15063.413). I have reinstalled the operating system several times,
but just after the installation I am experiencing random freezing
problem. The system does not react to anything, only the mouse
can be moved. In this case, nothing else solves the problem
except by manually shutting down and restarting the system. I
checked the drivers over and over again and tried to manually
install or even disable those that could cause problems like USB
3.0, USB 3.1, airplane mode, Bluetooth...

You must include this too: replace unstable power supply.

I got tones of freezes in Win10 and even in the boot screen and
even in the bios. Motherboard ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0. Tried all
your solutions and even migrated to another SSD and tried with
another graphics card. Nothing worked. Until I thought to replace
the PSU with an older, tested and stable one. That was it. No
more freezes. Downside was that due to the many power hard
resets, it cost me one damaged SSD in the process.

Now that Windows decided to update itself in the middle of a

Me did finally help one of the following options (Ashampoo).
1) Windows should follow orphaned links
2) Reduce polling of USB-ports
3) Reduce the Drives scanned for change

Did all at once.

Suppose 1 or 3 did do it. For 3 i removed alle the NAS-Drive.

See attached images.

I had same problem on win10 it was freezing and powering off,

Bank0 and then put Bank1 memory into Bank0 memory, left the
desktop running for a lot of hours with a lot of activities, the
problem went away and now my Desktop is running perfectly wit
no malfunctions. I also did I manual Power Supply Unit with a
Multimeter to check If I was getting 12V which it was cause when
it was PO I thougth I was the PSU.

Fix Random Freezes

- Press Windows Key and type Command Prompt.

- Right-click and choose Run as Administrator.

- Type sfc /scannow.

This scans for any file corruptions which could cause freezing.
Hopefully this can fix your issue.

For anyone who tried all methods but still not working
Check your VGA Card ie NVIDA card and try disable it to use
Integrated Graphic Card
That works for me :)

just my 2 cents... WINDOWS MODULES INSTALLER !!! ... It was
introduced in the beginning of 2017 and installs AND uninstalls
windows updates on its own, at free will. In msconfig, services,
look for windows module installer, and un-check it for boot up then
reboot. I have an ASUS cumputer from Best Buy and it does not
like one of the updates. ( I already knew that) So...i never installed
it. with the new installer, it will freeze when it can not complete a
task and does not tell you why. If you know you have had
problems with updates in the past, this might very well be your
problem.
