ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS: students may become shy when they have to
use English in order to talk and solve different tasks. The teacher will continually give them
positive feedback encouraging them to use English for their answers.

STAGES OF THE LESSON ACTIVITIES:
Warm up:
Aims: - to greet the Ss., mark the absentees;
-to create a relaxing atmosphere;
-to break the ice and have fun;
-to generate the SS’ interest;
-to check homework if necessary;

Techniques: question-answer; discussion;

Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T;

Timing: 5’;

Procedure: - greeting; marking the absentees; checking homework, if necessary;


-T asks Ss if they are good dancers and announces them that they are going to watch a
video. T asks Ss to imitate the characters.
T asks the students where, when and why people usually dance and tries to elicit from
them the following words: weekend...at the Disco.. on holidays.

Lead- in:
Aims: - to announce the title of the lesson;
- to introduce the Ss. into the atmosphere of the lesson;
- to raise the Ss’ interest in the topic of the lesson;
- to motivate Ss. to interact and exchange ideas and information;

Procedure: -T shows Ss a picture and asks them to comment upon it.T announces the title of the
new lesson, explains its meaning and writes it on the blackboard.

Activity 1: Pre-reading
Aims: - to raise the Ss’ interest in the topic of the lesson;
- to revise the vocabulary related to holidays;
-to introduce unknown words;
- to motivate Ss. to interact and exchange ideas and information;
-improving communicative skills through pair and group work;
-reviewing vocabulary related to holidays and traveling;
-improving reading and pronunciation skills;
-recognizing specific vocabulary used to describe holidays;

Techniques: vocabulary game, explanation, self-correction; peer-to-peer correction;

Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; Ss-T, TW;

Time: 10’;

Procedure: -T announces Ss that they are going to play a game, puts Ss into two teams and gives
clear instructions of what they have to do. Ss from one team read the words from their cards and
Ss from the other team have to show the corresponding picture. Ss change cards and repeat the
activity. T will explain the meaning of the unknown words and Ss will write down the
explanations in their notebooks;

Activity 2: While Reading:


Aims: -to develop reading and pronunciation skills;
- to discover and infer the meanings of the unknown words from the context;
- to introduce the new vocabulary;
-to scan the texts and find specific information;
- to check the SS’ comprehension of the context through comprehension questions;
-to check if the students have understood the newly acquired vocabulary items;
-to use present tense simple;

Techniques: question-answer; elicitation; scanning, skimming, discussion; self-correction; peer-


to-peer correction, monitoring, directing comprehension tasks;

Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; exercise 1: I-W; exercise 2: P-W; exercise 3: GW;

Time: 20’;

Procedure: -T asks Ss to solve the exercises from their worksheets. For each exercise T will give
clear instructions, set a time limit, monitor and offer help. Ss will work individually (ex 1), in

pairs (exercise 2) and in groups (exercise 3, 4 and 5) the right answers will be written on the
blackboard and SS will copy them in their notebooks.

Activity 4- Post- Reading: follow-up tasks:


Aims: - to practice the newly acquired vocabulary items;
- to check if the students have understood the newly acquired vocabulary items and if they
can use them properly in context;
-to practise writing using the newly acquired vocabulary;
-to practise Present Tense Simple;

Techniques: monitoring, directing comprehension task; question-answers;

Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; SS-T; I-W;

Time: 12’;

Procedure: T asks the ss to solve the last exercise from their worksheet;.
SS also receive different questions as prompts and they have to make a short description
about their ideal holiday..

Homework and evaluation:


Ss have to continue the last exercise at home.
T gives thanks to all the SS for their participation;
