MPSC refutes

Manipur Public Service
Commission (MPSC) has
refuted the news report that
candidates of Manipur Civil
Services Combined Compe-
titive (Preliminary) Exami-
nation 2019 can download
admit cards till May 16.

MPSC Registrar SN Vaiphei
said that the commission did
not issue any notification or
press release which says the
candidates can download
their admit cards till May
16.
It further pointed out that

A feeling of suppression and exploitation still looms large

Archaeological Survey of India
has discovered two decorated
“legged coffins” with two
skeletons at an excavation site
near Sanauli in Uttar Pradesh’s
Baghpat district. The skeletons
were discovered along with
other artifacts during the
resumption of excavation at the
site.
Excavation had been car-
ried out at the site earlier in
2018 and has been resumed
again under the direction of
Dr SK Manjul, Director, In-
stitute of Archaeology, ASI.
The renewed excavation is
being carried out to better
understand the extension of
the burial site and also the
habitation area in relation with
earlier findings.
Sanauli is located on the
left bank of River Yamuna,
68 km north-east of Delhi.
Excavations at this site had
brought to light the largest
necropolis of the late
Harappan period which date
back to around the early part
of second millennium BCE.

and bones were also found
inside the structure.
The excavation in the sec-
ond area about 200 metres
away from the first site un-
earthed the remains of four
furnaces with three associated
working levels. The furnaces
yielded slag, potsherds, and
few charred bones. Stone
weights, stone anvils, animal
figurines, gamesmen, etc are
part of the antiquities recov-
ered from this area. Storage
jars and a cluster of pottery

yellow’ coloured Rs 20 note

Saturday said that it would soon issue new Rs 20 notes in ‘greenish
yellow’ colour. The banknote in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series
will have a motif of Ellora Caves on the reverse, depicting the
country’s cultural heritage.
“All the banknotes in the denomination of Rs 20 issued by
the RBI in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender,”
the Central Bank clarified in a statement.
Bearing the signature of the central bank’s governor
Shaktikanta Das, the dimension of the new Rs 20 note will
be 63 mm x 129 mm. The note has other designs, geometric
patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the

Saturday received summons from a Delhi court for his “scorpion”
remark against PM Narendra Modi.
The order comes on a plea by BJP leader Rajiv Babbar
who had filed a complaint against Tharoor alleging that the
comments hurt his religious sentiments.
Tharoor has been asked to appear before the court June 7.
“The complainant’s religious sentiments were hurt and
accused deliberately did this malicious act, intending to outrage
religious feeling of Lord Shiva devotees by insulting their
religious believes,” it said.
The complaint was filed under section 499 and 500 of the
Indian Penal Code relating to defamation.
Speaking at the Bangalore Literature Festival, Tharoor

CHENNAI, Apr 27: A depression over the Indian Ocean and
southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified and moved further
northwestwards, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said
Saturday.
It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during
next 12 hours and further into a severe cyclonic storm, the
IMD said and warned fishermen against venturing into the sea
on Sunday.
“The depression over east Equatorial Indian Ocean and
adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved further
northwestwards, intensified into a deep depression and lay
centered about 870 km east-southeast of Trincomalee (Sri
Lanka), 1210 km southeast of Chennai and 1500 km south-
southeast of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh,” it said.
“It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during
next 12 hours and further into a severe cyclonic storm during
subsequent 24 hours,” the IMD said.
Further, the system is very likely to move northwestwards
off Sri Lanka coast during the next 72 hours and reach near
north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts on April
30.
On Sunday, gale wind speed reaching 80-90 kmph gusting
to 100 kmph and very rough to high seas are very likely over
southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining east Equatorial Indian
Ocean along and off Sri Lanka coast, the weather office said.
There would be strong wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph
gusting to 50 kmph along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry
coasts, Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar and over Kerala, it said.

Fifteen people including six children have died during a Sri
Lankan security forces operation in the aftermath of the Easter
attacks, as three cornered suicide bombers blew themselves
up and others were shot dead, police said Saturday.
The three men set off explosives, also killing three
women and six children inside what was believed to a
jihadist safe house near the eastern town of Kalmunai on
Friday night.
"Three other men, also believed to be suicide bombers,
were found dead outside the house," police said in a state-
ment, adding that they had been shot.
Police backed by troops exchanged fire with those in-
side the house for over an hour, a military official said,
adding that the bodies were recovered early Saturday fol-
lowing a search operation.
Security forces have stepped up their searches for ex-
tremists after the ISIS group claimed responsibility for the
suicide attacks on three churches and three luxury hotels,
which killed least 253 people and wounded hundreds
more.
The joint operation between the police and the army
was carried out following a tip-off that those responsible
were holed up in a built-up area of Kalmunai, 370 kilome-
tres (230 miles) east of the capital.

base from China to India post
the general elections, a top
US-based advocacy group
has said, observing that there
is a fantastic opportunity with
firms looking at alternatives

are talking to them about
how to set up an alternative

transform the indirect tax
administration system and
the way business is
conducted, India is looking at
the possibility of introducing
electronic invoicing under
goods and services tax.
If the country adopts the
system, businesses will
likely have to issue invoices,
or bills, directly via the GST
Network, and the data will
be available to the authori-
ties right away.
The GST Council has set
up a committee to look into
the feasibility of e-invoic-
ing. It will also study the
systems in place in other
countries, such as South
Korea and some from Latin
America.
The move comes as the
new single tax regime,
which took effect on July 1,
2017, has seen a rise in in-
cidents of evasion. The GST
Council has taken a number
of measures, such as intro-
duction of electronic way
bills (e-way), to clamp
down on tax evasion.
