OUR PROPHETS

Who are Prophets?

Who are Prophets? Can you name some Prophets? What do Prophets do?
In the last lesson we learned about our one and only God: Allah. Allah wants us to be
good Muslims. But how will we know how to be a good Muslim?

This is why Allah sent Prophets for us.

In Arabic they are called Nabi.

Nabi Prophets are here to show us and teach us how to be
good Muslims. They are like very important teachers sent by Allah. We learn from the
Prophets what a good Muslim is and what we should do to make Allah happy with us.

The Prophets are like a bridge between us and Allah.

They tell us how Allah would like us to act and how we should live our lives.

to be good Muslims. Our Imams came after the last Prophet.
Do you remember who our last Prophet is?

Prophet Muhammad!

Imam means leader. So what do you think our Imams do then?

That’s right! They lead us!

Why do we need Imams?

But why do we need Imams when Prophet Muhammad already taught us Islam and left
behind the Holy Quran?

The Imams help us and guide us when we don’t

understand something. Just like when you ask
your mother, your father, or your teacher when
you don’t understand something, Imams help us
understand Islam and how to be a better Muslim.

Lesson 3

Story Time
Here is a story that will help us understand why we need an Imam.

Once there was a man named Amr bin Ubayd in a

mosque in Iraq. He told people that he did not be-
lieve we needed an Imam!

There was also another man named Hisham. Hisham

was a good young man. He was the student of our
6th Imam, Imam Jaffer Sadiq (AS).

Hisham asked Amr bin Ubayd that if he was so sure that we did not
need an Imam, if he would answer some questions. Amr bin Ubayd
said yes he would.

This is where the story gets interesting!

Hisham asked, “Do you have eyes?”

Amr said, “Yes of course I have eyes.”

Hisham asked. “What is the use of your eyes?”

Amr answered, “They are used to see.”

Hisham asked again, “Do you have ears?”

Amr said, “Yes, I have ears.”

Hisham asked: What is the use of your ears?”

Amr said, “They are used to hear.”

Hisham asked again, “What about your nose, your mouth?”

Amr thought the questions he was being asked were so foolish!

Page 13
Lesson 3

But Hisham still asked. “Do you have a brain?”

Amr answered, “Yes, I have a brain.”

Hisham asked, “What do you use your brain for?”

Amr said, “It is with the brain that I am able to under-

stand the information received by all the other organs.”

Hisham asked, “Does that mean that although all the organs that you have (eyes,

ears, nose, and mouth) are healthy, they still cannot work without the brain?”

Amr answered, “Yes.”

Hisham replied, “So, if Allah has made a brain to guide the organs in
the body…. Don’t you think that Allah would leave a guide (Imam)
for all the people of the world?

Amr had no answer!

So, this means that since we are human beings

that can easily make mistakes, we need a lead-
er and a guide to help us make the right choic-
es and not the wrong ones, the same way the
brain helps to tell your eyes, ears, nose, and
mouth what to do. This way we can be good
Muslims and make Allah happy with us.
That is why Allah sent Imams!

to announce his Prophethood, Abu Talib was
one of his strongest followers.
While he was under the powerful protection
of his uncle, the Quraish did not dare to harm
the Holy Prophet (S) personally. Aamul Huzn means Year of Grief
The death of his uncle made the Holy Proph-

During the same year he also lost his dear
wife, Bibi Khadija.
As both his uncle and his wife died in the
same year, the Holy Prophet (S) called this
year "Aamul Huzn".

Allah says in the Qur'an that the Prophet (S) had the best Akhlaq.

He was always polite and cheerful.

He never lied, AND he was always careful when entrusted with other people's things.

Lesson 4

Story Time
The Holy Prophet (S) was sitting in the mosque in
Madina giving a talk to some of his followers while
they were waiting for Salaat time to set in.
A rich man wearing expensive clothes came and sat
in front of the Holy Prophet (S) to listen to his talk.

Meanwhile another man who had also came to listen to the Holy
Prophet (S) sat down beside the rich man.
The second man was not rich, in fact he was quite poor. The old
and torn clothes he was wearing showed just how poor he was.
The rich man did not like for the poor man to sit next to him. He
pulled his nice, new, expensive clothes closer to himself, so that
they would not be touched by the dirty,
old, torn clothes of the poor man.

The Holy Prophet (S) noticed what the rich man had done and
was upset and
disappointed. He asked the rich man why he had done this?
Was it because he
thought that some of his wealth might go to the poor man, or
was it because he
thought some of the poverty of the poor man might come to
him. The rich man, who was not a bad person, realized what he had done was wrong
and was truly sorry. To make up for his mistake and to show how sorry he was, the rich
man after apologizing to the poor man, offered him half of all his wealth. The poor
man told the rich man that he accepted his apology and forgave him, but did not want
half of his wealth as he did not want to get something without having worked for it.

Moral: In the eyes of Allah how rich or poor a person is makes no difference.
The person who is closest to Allah is the one who obeys him.
