Context and Definitions

Social Entrepreneurship

Context :

Withdrawal of States in solving social issues, short-falls of CSR,

persistence of wicked problems (poverty, unemployment, climate change, etc.),
and mounting discontent about current capitalism. Thus, social entrepreneurship
is presented. It’s mission to spread social entrepreneurship theory and practice to
change the face of capitalism (agency). Capitalism only provide to rich person,
there’s no way to help the poor one. NGO is not the answer to help the poor.
However, Goverment does. Goverment can help the poor by giving the poor such
as a medical, education and etc facility.

Wicked problem or circular problem : continuous problem. In example :

the poor doesn’t have any money, so then they can’t get any education and
health facility when they’re sick. Because of that condition, the poor can’t get to
work or in other hand, they can’t get a job regarding their weakness. And we
know that’s because of the person is poor.

During the economic crisis that happening around the world these day.
Making a new idea of having a social entreprerise. A social entreprise is talking
about business, management, and also the environment. Regarding this situation,
social entreprise is the answer to reduce the economic crisis and the poor.

Being an entrepreneur means that you’re a risk taker but being an

employe means that you’re a risk cover. By being an entrepreneur means that
you know you risk everything you have (money, time, connection, and etc).
However, you also see an opportunity to make something. In other hand, as an
entrepreneur it means that you don’t need money. Entrepreneur is talking about
being an innovator new product or marketing process. In social entreprise you
would be a manager and the owner of you business.

Social entrepreneur is a group of individuals with innovative solutions to

perceived social needs. It’s different from CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility),
NGOs, and mainstream entrepreneurship. Social entrepreneurship it combines
passion of social with an image of business-like discipline, innovation, and
determination commonly associated with, for instance, the high-tech pioneers of
Silicon Valley. The time is certainly ripe for entrepreneurial approaches to social
problems. Many governmental and philanthropic efforts have fallen far short of
our expectations. There’s a mission on social entrepreneurship, not just talking
about the benefit we will get as a entrepreneur.

Social entrepreneurship is a capitalist-democratic response to capitalism-

democracy induced problems for example, Disengagement from the State, Social
Issues, Environmental Issues. Note: “Democracy and capitalism are similar in
ideally giving people whatever they want, whether in the way of goverance or of
other goods.” (Scitovsky, in The Joyless Economy, 1976).

entrepreneurship?

rich. Can we say that it look like a cross subsidies?)
