Study in Canada:

Timeline for September 2019 intake

2018
First steps: • Start early and by August, shortlist 8-12 universities
APR April 2018 to that you will apply to. Visit university websites and note
application requirements, deadlines etc.
September 2018
• By September, be familiar with bank loan options and
scholarships to fund your studies.
MAY
• Begin by downloading admissions brochures from the
university websites. Most brochures are out more than a year
earlier.
JUN • Conduct some initial research on various
accommodation options.

JUL
Crack the exams: • Prepare for required standardised tests like GMAT, GRE, SAT,
June 2018 to TOEFL or IELTS - depending on the course and university.
December 2018 • By June-July or three months before the test date, register
for GMAT/ GRE.
AUG • Register for TOEFL/IELTS at least a month before the test
date.
• Take the required tests around September. Plan for buffer
SEP time in case you need to retake the test. Check test taking
and re-exam process and guidelines.

OCT It’s application time: • Shortlist the colleges and prepare for your application. Think
hard about what makes you unique as an applicant and sketch out your
August 2018 to strengths and self-assessment.
October 2018 • Contact your professors and direct managers for the
NOV required 2-3 reference letters. At least a month before your
application deadline.

• Begin drafting your SOP and essays. Give a month’s time to


structure these documents properly.
DEC
• Apply before the deadline!

2019 JAN What next: • Don’t delay replying to college e-mails. And there will be quite
a few!
November 2018 to
• Appear for personal/video interviews. These are scheduled
April 2019 around January to March.
FEB
• Once you get acceptance letters, make your decision as soon
as possible.
• Depending on the deadline, notify the universities of your
MAR decision.
• You will need to pay a non-refundable deposit to confirm
your admission.
APR

Visa and money matters: • Search for and begin applying for external scholarships (if
applicable).
May 2019 to
MAY • Apply for student loan, after you get your acceptance letter.
July 2019
• Gather paperwork for your student visa. Check visa
requirements.
JUN • Apply for student visa in time. Keep in mind the time taken
for visa processing!

JUL
• Book airline tickets.
July 2019 to • Arrange for an International Debit/Credit card.
AUG August 2019 • Collect all the documents and their photocopies, to take
along.
