CHAYEI SARAH “Life of Sarah” Week 23
Pst. Ching Nicolas
Torah Parshah: Gen 25: 1- 18
Abraham took another wife named Keturah who bore him 6 sons. Abraham left everything (physical and spiritual)
he owned to Isaac. While still living Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son
Isaac to the land of the east. Abraham lived a good, full age of 175 years and was gathered to his people. Isaac and Ishmael
buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre (Gen 23:9-20)
where Sarah his wife was buried. After Abraham’s death, God
blessed Isaac who lived near Beer Lahai Roi.
Ishmael had 12 sons (become the 12 tribal rulers
according to their settlements and camps. Ishmael lived for 139
years, and was gathered to his people. His descendants settled
near the border of Egypt (from Havilah to Shur), toward Asshure.
And they lived in hostility toward all their brothers.

Haftarah: 2 Sam 5:17-6:1

When the Philistines heard that David was anointed King
of Israel, they went out to search for him. But David heard about
it and went to the stronghold. The Philistines spread out in the
valley of Rephaim. David inquired of the Lord whether to go and
attack the Philistines, “Will You hand them over to me?” The Lord
responded, “Go, I will surely hand them over to you.” So, David
went to Baal Perazim, and there defeated them. He said, “As
waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies
before me.” So, that place was called Baal Perazim (The Lord who
breaks out).

Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the

Valley of Rephaim of the balsam trees; So, David asked the Lord,
and He answered, “Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the balsam trees.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in
front of you to strike the Philistine army.” David did as commanded by the Lord. And God struck down the Philistines all
the way from Gibeon to Gezer. 2 Sam 6: 1 David again brought together out of Israel chosen men, 30,000 in all.

Brit Chadashah: Heb 12:14-29

Live in peace with all men and be holy: without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the
grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. See that no one is sexually immoral or is
godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. Afterwards, when he wanted to
inherit this blessing, he was rejected. He could bring about no change of mind, though he sought the blessing with tears.
You have not come to the mountain (cannot be touched, burning with fire: to darkness, gloom and storm; to a
trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken because
they could not bear what was spoken, Exodus 19:12, 13 referring to Mt Sinai). But you have come to Mount Zion (heavenly
Jerusalem, city of the living God, to thousands and thousands of angel in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn,
whose names are written in heaven, to God, Judge of all men, to the spirits of all men, to the spirits of righteous men
made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of the New Covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the
blood of Abel, Gen 4:10-12).
V21 Warning against refusing him who speaks, (if they did not escape calamity, how much less will we, if we turn
away from him who warns us from heaven?) Once more (the removing of what can be shaken-that is created things-so
that what cannot be shaken may remain).
Ergo, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably
with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

Parasha 5: Chayei Sara “Sarah’s life” (Week 23) 26 Adar I-3 Adar II 5779/ March 3-9, 2019
Torah Reading: Genesis 25:1-18 Research & Insight of: Sister Milot Panerio
vv.1-6 - We have come to the end of Abraham’s life. vv.1-6 reveal an
interesting note about Abraham that is surprising. He married again and had
not one but six sons! It is somewhat unclear when this additional family
came to be. The wording in Hebrew is such that Abraham could have taken
the wife while Sarah was still alive. Either way, we are left scratching our
heads at Abraham’s prowess. The concubines in verse 6 are evidently
Keturah and Hagar. A concubine is what might be called a second wife – a
legal marriage, but the wife and her children are not on equal footing with
the primary wife or wives.
vv.3-4 – Descendants of Keturah.
vv. 5-6 – Avraham gave everything he owns to Yitzchak, but to the sons of
the concubine(s) he made grants and set them off to the east, land of Kedem,
away from Yitzchak, his son.
vv.7-10 – Death of Avraham. He lived 175 years. Yitzchak and Ishmael
buried him at the cave of Machpelah were his wife Sarah was also buried.
v.11 – It was after Avraham’s death, that Aveinu YaHoVaH blessed Yitzchak
and he lived by the Well of the Living One, My Seer.
vv.12-16 – The names of the sons of Ishmael, 12 chiefs according to their nations.
v.17 – Ishmael’s years of life, 137
v.18 – Ishmael’s descendants lived from Havilah to Shur, facing Egypt toward Assyria. They settled facing all his brothers.

GNWOM on DZRJ
Saturday March 9
VIRTUAL MONSTER - Signs of the end times. Very truly timely issue of the day was discussed thoroughly by GNWOM
Pastor Francis Nicolas, Jr., Bro. BJ Tagle, Bro Jojo Tejano, and DZRJ's Good News Pilipinas! host Bro. Francis "Kiko" de
Guzman, who all zeroed-in on the dangers of gadget addiction which has caused a number of deaths and contributed to
the destruction of family life in the Philippines and the world, which continues ass a Part 2 on March 16. Stay tuned and
listen in to this 12PM-1PM segment on Saturdays.

GNWOM Values Formation Seminar with ActivCare

The care of Elisa I Eustaquio from December to January by ActivCare Home Solutions allowed the household of the
Eustaquios to become close to the health providers that included physicians, caregivers and nurses as they bonded
through the shared experience of fighting to care for mom. Wanting to deepen the Legacy of mom’s Life and Death, Sis.
Carol wanted to ‘Level Up’ the experience by sharing the GNWOM Values Formation Seminar experience that we
recently went through last November/December 2018 with a whole-day seminar that was conducted at the Eustaquio
residence under the mentoring of Pst. Nora Alvarez. Having cared for A life physically, we wanted their lives to deepen
Spiritually. Sis. Carol wanted the death of mom to also mean a rebirth to those who attended to her.

Almost 7 weeks have passed yet in attendance that Tuesday March 5 were nurses: Cesar S. Villasor RN, Raji P. Bernada
RN and caregivers Cristy B Chenilla, Winnie M Icuspit and even the caregiver of Ismael M Eustaquio who passed away in
2015, Emma V Lasaca was there. Also in attendance were Felsy M Cordova and staff members Gina A Cabanu-Ang,
Elena L Bagtasos and Iluminada A Duero who went through what was normally a 2-4 week part-time seminar in a whole
day seminar where from their group sharing and self-analysis they were emotionally de-constructed, so that they could
seek the Lord and be Born Again.

Sample SELF-EXAMINATION USING SYMBOLIC IMAGERY

SCRIPTURE: PSALM 139: 23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Instructions:
Create an invisible bubble around you….. as you settle in your personal
Bubble, freely focus and involve oneself , let us begin examining ourselves in silence.
Start by taking notice of your breath. Taking air slowly through your nose and exhaling more slowly but longer
through your mouth. Let the air reach your head , neck down to your shoulders ,to your arms… to your body and to
your feet. Do this repeatedly for at least two minutes with consciousness that the air is reaching every inch of your body.

Now look at your pair of footwear….. that old familiar footwear. You may not even have bothered to check it this
morning before putting it on like what would you be doing now. Looking at this footwear , think about how you first got
it and how it has served you.

Answer the following Truthfully_

• Observe the different parts of your footwear.
• How does it look differently since you first got it?
• Has it become distorted? Discolored? are the soles coming out?

As you look at it, reflect on your recent life’s journey. What kind of roads have you been travelling recently?
• Are they paved ,smooth road? Rocky road ?soft and murky?
• Have you felt worn out in your recent journey in your life?
• Or were you energized by this part of your journey?
• What where your strides like? Big and exciting? Small and fearfull? heavy and discouraging? Light peaceful?

How has this past year shaped you?

• What has this past year shaped you?
• What has changed in you that you like?
• What is the state of your soul right now?
• Look at yourself , as you have become over the years.
Spend time contemplating about them. Then in the quietness of your heart, listen to what God is saying to you in all
these.
You may say or write a prayer , a poem as your response to God.
Closing prayer-
We ask you Holy Lord, to faithfully bless our comings and goings, and to protect our mouths, hearts and minds. Set
our hearts on the path of your holy divine peace. We ask you father, to bind us with the bond of peace and your pure ,
divine love so that we may wholeheartedly live and walk according to your Word and Will, now and until the end of our
lives.
We ask you this, in the name of your beloved Son Jesus our Lord. Amen
While this was ongoing at the Eustaquio residence, Bro. Bob and Tim Eustaquio were attending the APO Regional
Orthodontic Congress in Panglao Island, Bohol and was blessed to be able to go island hopping seeing Balicasag Island
which he hiked around after snorkeling in the turtle sanctuary and also going to the beautiful sandbar called Virgin Island
and also the religious themed Isla di Francesco. Seeing God’s natural wonders deepens ones love and faith to YHWH.
