With the strong development of information technology and the advent of the internet, has
brought people many utility applications. Thus, people apply it to their work or in their daily
lives. With the current integration, as more and more foreign companies invest in Vietnam, it is
inevitable that equipping themselves with one or more foreign languages. Due to the
development of information technology, the traditional method is not the only method to reach
foreign languages in addition to online learning methods.
Online language learning will be a way to help participants become more flexible in time,
select appropriate courses, moderate tuition fees but still meet the learner’s requirements
effectively. This is considered an innovative approach with technology transfer, advanced
design as well as an interactive learning environment that takes students centered to anyone,
anywhere, anytime by using Internet. For those who don’t have much time, can’t afford the
fees in the center or geographic conditions don’t allow it, learning through the Internet
becomes a tool that can help them.
However, not everyone can choose for themselves effective learning methods. They were
discouraged, unable to find interaction in the lessons, or learning the wrong way caused
learners to deviate from the original foundation. Whatever the cause leads to unexpected
results. Through recognition and self-experience we ourselves. Our team found that the
benefits of online learning bring positive effects in learning but learners cannot take advantage
of those benefits to bring the best effect in learning.
So, through this research topic, our team wants to find out the online language learning
method, in particular English of students of Hue University of Foreign Languages to improve
the method of learning more effectively and make good use of available resources with the
most optimal methods.
2. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
We learn about the method of learning English online by students to make suggestions suitable
for each group of learners.
The study focused on the objects of 1st and 2nd year students of English Department, Hue
University of Foreign Languages.
3. OBJECT AND SCOPE OF RESEARCH
For this research topic, we aim at the method of online English learning.
Free online learning websites such as Youtube, Facebook, ... and have paid like Topica,
Cambly, Engbreaking ...
4. RESEARCH METHOD
We conducted a questionnaire and survey for 1st and 2nd year students of Hue University of
Foreign Languages to help you choose for yourself the appropriate learning methods to achieve
high efficiency in learning English.
We have collected, processed and synthesized data based on survey methods to compare,
collate and make conclusions for the topic.
5. RESEARCH QUESTIONS
We have chosen the topic of "Researching an effective online English learning method" to
understand the student's understanding and interest in this method of learning. In the scope of
the dissertation, we don’t have the conditions to study all students of the English Department
but only focus on surveying the 2nd year students with the following questions:
1. Which ways do you approach English? Have you been learning English through the
Internet or not?
2. Which methods do you use when you learn English online? And how effectively when
you execute that methods?
3. If you are the person who never learned English through the Internet, are you willing to
learn if there are oriented and suitable learning methods?
6. RESEARCH HYPHOTHESIS
1. The survey participants have a certain understanding of online learning methods.
2. Through this topic, it can be helpful to approach new learning methods and it can help
determine the learning method that is suitable for you to bring the best effect in learning.
