Introduction :
Cathodic Protection (CP) is a technique used to
control the corrosion of a metal surface by
making it the cathode of an electrochemical cell.
Cathodic protection systems protect a wide
range of metallic structures in various
environments. Common applications are: steel
water or fuel pipelines and steel storage tanks
such as home water heaters, ship and boat hulls;
offshore oil platforms and onshore oil well
casings.
Cathodic protection designs can differ
considerably depending upon the coating, the
configuration of the structure, the environment
and the presence of neighboring structures.
When a system is designed, installed and
maintained properly, cathodic protection is one
of the most effective and economical methods
of preventing corrosion.

Objectives :
This course will enable the attendee to:
Understand the principles of external
corrosion and cathodic protection.
Learn the different types of pipeline coatings,
their limitations and how these are applied.
Learn how cathodic protection systems are
designed and how their effectiveness is
measured.
Understand the basics of stray current
interference.
In Case of Not Attending:
 One will not be able to understand the basics
of cathodic protection, including design,
monitoring and maintenance.
One will not be able to understand corrosion
theory and applications;
Not be able to understand the different forms
of corrosion and its mechanisms.
Not be able to learn the engineering design of
corrosion prevention systems.
